Microsoft isn't giving up, they're just being the polar opposite of consumer and competition-friendly.
Competition friendly...oh please. As if ANY big company does that.

Yup, I have never rooted for a failure of a console so hard before. I hope Wii U and PS4 eat that thing alive.
Classic Microsoft. Instead of using money to create content, they use money to deny access for competition. Potential Xbox owners have nothing to gain from these tactics, since the titles would've come to the platform without moneyhats anyway. It's very anti-consumer, business maneuvering.
Two of our most trusted neoGAF insiders have said that Microsoft is reacting hard to what has went down, and so they're going to try to dismantle PS4's image as a "for gamers" console by paying publishers and devs to not show their multiplatform titles during E3 on a PS4. In other words, even if the multiplatform version is coming out for the PS4, they won't be able to show them at E3, thus contributing to the perception that somehow Sony is getting significantly less support for PS4 than Microsoft is "for gamers."
Of course, I'm sure multiplatform games will slip through - they can't possibly pay everyone - but it's extremely telling how they're choosing to spend their money

But if they only manage 800 giga flops, won't that make ports to the Wii u easier?Wishful thinking. As bad as Microsoft's position is at the moment, Nintendo is MUCH worse off.
Yeah yeah, but they deal with hardware now and have been since the original xbox (practically called it xbox1 for fuck sakes). I think its about time they hire a few engineers who know what the fuck their doing.
For me its very simple now, ps4 at launch wait and see on Xbone. Fuck that, i aint touching this shit on day one.
Microsoft announced they are canceling their E3 round table its just getting worse

You seem to be forgetting that they (the ps4 at least) have direct access to large amounts of ram. If they are using more than 2GBs of ram per frame, then the majority of video cards out there are going to simply choke. People are going to have to drop vram hungry effects and textures. Also, PC requirements seem to get inflated when the game gets ported. Like Bioshock Infinite, they recommend a video card with 1GB of ram which is more than what 360 or PS3 have. Even the minimum requirements is 512GBs. The only way there isn't going to be a problem is if they develop the game with the PC in mind or we start getting 4GBs of vram on video cards.
Even if no big company does that (i disagree), not every company do what Microsoft is always doing to prevent competition
The two aren't even the same fucking thing. Microsoft is paying for studios to simply not show the PS4 version, not dumb it down. It would take a lot of money to get a company to suicide their PS4 versions by dumbing the products down, because at the end of the day the PS4 releases will be compared to other PS4 games, not Xbone games. And PS4 exclusives are going to look significantly better.
Holy fucking fuck. That is insane. Paying devs and pubs to ditch out on the PS4 version is crazy.
Said it earlier but this shit will turn into a marketing war. Come mid summer and August it's going to get ugly. Sony is going to have to wake up on the marketing end. I know they have better people now but they are really going to have to be PS2 era marketing
Do they have the funds for that? Not sure but they can't take this "well gamers and the internet will help spread the good word". They need to seriously go in the War Chest to keep up with MS

That should say it all about Microsoft since this year started

Let's not jump the shark here. It hasn't even been confirmed. :/
I've talked to more people since then though and this isn't the usual jostling for publishers on stage that happens at E3. Microsoft is throwing BIG money around to reverse course on idea that they aren't a games console. The rumors are that PS4 versions of multiplats, by those who do take the money, won't be shown AT ALL. Not on stage and not on the show floor.
WTF, if this ridiculous thing is possible by money hatting, the other is also possible not likely but its possible. I am not saying make the PS4 version 'bad' but make it look identical even when it was possible to make it look and run better. Anyways, we'll have to see how it plays out when the next gen games comes out.
This is the attitude I've personally associated them with all this time and why I've been uncomfortable paying for Live and this and that. Or just supporting them in general. I get that people love Live and that it's important to them and that it's a service that works very well, but I've always been subconsciously apprehensive about it. I'm guilty of paying for it myself but I stopped long before this stuff went down.
If I may be blunt, and this will no doubt make some eyes roll and that's okay, but I really don't get the impression that Microsoft respects the videogame medium. They cater to popularity and try to be the cool kids on the block so hard, I mean look no further than Peter Moore's badass GTA tattoo, and they've always had this annoying mantra. I get that they're running a business and obviously it makes sense for them to reach out to everyone they can and that's fine, but I get nothing but a vibe of dishonesty from them concerning games.
All I get is a look us too! attitude about them and it just rubs me the wrong way. I don't get this from the other guys and that's why I'm more tolerant with them when they make mistakes. I usually try not to make posts like this because it's very much a personal feeling, but I've been gaming for almost 30 years now and Microsoft may be the sleaziest fuckers I've ever did business with. Nothing honest about them to me and these recent developments, while not surprising, well it doesn't do a lot to change my mind.

How is not showing mulitplat going to hurt Sony? MS are dummies.
Dang you sho can write guud.

Somebody needs to create new thread about his. Absolutely shameful tactic if true.
Who is the second source on this outside of Mortimor? I just ran this by a 3rd Party Dev and he told me this is a ludicrous idea.
Yep new thread for new news. This is literally insane info.

I can imagine that Sony was pushing hard to get Bungie's new game to be more associated with their console than with the XB1. Appearing at the PS4 reveal, exclusive DLC. It obvious that they want to have "the creators of Halo" associated with them now and sway people.Besides, Sony is already going to show Destiny so it's evident that some third party companies can't be bought.
Business is ugly, man. They aren't breaking any rules.Somebody needs to create new thread about his. Absolutely shameful tactic if true.

yeah, no reason to question that guy. As far as I can see he's legit.
He DID say though that this is something microsoft is "attempting" to do, and "of those who take the money" no games may be seen for PS4.
This isn't likely to be any JP devs of note (because MS is nonexistent in Japan), nor is it likely to be anyone the size of EA, Activision, or Ubisoft. Not only are those three simply too large to moneyhat that way, no one in their right mind thinks Madden, COD, Battlefield, Assassin's Creed, etc won't show up on PS4.
Perhaps MS are throwing money only at certain third party developers.
