Xbox One - Help Spread the Word

So just because you dont like something you cant stand others who dont care?

The desperation threads on GAF are amazing. The device clearly is not targeting you, nor does it care if you buy it or not, why are you so hurt by it?

Honestly if your OK with this then fine buy the system and games but I think GAF should have a policy where if you buy into this shit now then later on you cannot post a thread whining and bitching about how you paid good money for a game and then couldn't play because the DRM server check failed or the servers went down or it's stormy out and now you lost Internet and you can't play a game to kill time cause guess what no check in. If you do post a thread like this after knowing all these shitty policies up front it should be an insta ban on your GAF account. I bet member count would drop real quick lol.

Also I did my part and shared this on various social media sites, etc. #NoDRM #teamAmir0x

I did not realize this is forum is run by dictators.

They've had ample time at this point to digest all of the feedback and decide what path they are going to tread with Xbox One.

Since it hasn't changed by now in light of all the backlash dating back to the Orth tweets, it's never going to. I feel this #NoDRM campaign is ultimately (and sadly) redundant for MS, but at least it can influence other companies who might be cunting enough to consider following suit.

The "I told you so" clause?

I like it.

I don't think he looks stupid at all. Standing up for what you believe in is never stupid. You should go back to the middle of the herd.

Standing up against a company with an ill conceived DRM strategy fueled by hubris and greed is totally fighting the good fight right?

...get a grip.

What the hell rights are you talking about?
You agree to the terms of use. You follow their rules.
If you aren't into their rules, don't buy their fucking console.

The people that make the rules should attempt to meet the consumer halfway. I'm completely fine with publishers getting every cent they earned but I am not OK with that hindering my experience.

There is no reason why we cant play games after being disconnected for 24 hours, its complete and utter bullshit and I will follow the last line of your post to a T.

nah sorry OP, I'm all about freedom of choice. It would even work better this way, since - assuming these news are definitive - the more people buy the console, the bigger the backlash will be

"see for yourself" is my creed. Works wonders sometimes

i mean i definitely think op used some ridiculous language, but I like that he made a thread and isn't backing down

really hard to believe that people are still ranting about this. If you don't like it don't buy one.

Yeah, hard to believe people on a message board are talking about something that came to light about 4-5 hours ago. What, do these people have jobs or other interests beside GAF or something?

If you don't want to discuss things on a discussion board, then don't join one.

With all the information we have on both consoles I don't understand why people would choose xbone over PS4. Unless they like Halo or whatever.

Agreed. I just want to give others the chance to have all the facts.

You and others like you wringing your hands and clawing at your face are acting like this is the first time a company has done something it's customers disagree with.

It's either going to work out for Microsoft or it won't. (Sony as well but not as many have seemed to figure out they're going to do the same thing)

Comments like "We deserve better than this." only serves to give ammunition to games journalism that will invariably try to paint us as entitled whiners. It shows a remarkable lack of perspective and wisdom.

I didn't say you are stupid. I said it makes you look stupid. You've been on GAF for quite some time. You're capable of more than this.
So you're subtly trying to put the poster down and make him look bad for what reason exactly?

Standing up against a company with an ill conceived DRM strategy fueled by hubris and greed is totally fighting the good fight right?

...get a grip.
And now doing the same to me as well?

You know, as evil as this is it's a console version of steam basically. No rentals, lending, trade ins, digital day one, tied to your account. It's just more awkward.

I love how this thread has gotten all these detractors; I'd love to see just how many of these people are the same ones who tried to say that the #ps4nodrm campaign wouldn't work or matter or gain any traction. It'd be fun to see!

That aside, I CAN'T believe there's people who are absolutely okay with PHYSICAL. MEDIA. being treated like DIGITAL. MATERIALS. Consoles are losing their ONE benefit, the benefit of being able to bring your game over to a friend's house to play or vice versa, being able to sell your game on ebay, amazon, etc, AND being able to buy used games at reasonable prices.

"I don't own my games, because I don't own the code on the discs, or the data, or the IP" whatever the FUCK your reasoning is for believing the bullshit these companies are feeding you doesn't MATTER. You bought the one copy of the game you have in your hands. Microsoft, EA, Activision, whoever made the game doesn't have that copy YOU bought that YOU have in your hands. They have the OTHER thousands of copies. They own those copies, not the one YOU bought with your hard earned money. They no longer own the one YOU have, it's no longer in the retailer's possession and it's no longer in the publisher's possession. It's in your possession, YOU own the physical media.

Fuck EULA bullshit. Utilize your rights like you're supposed to and quit being so apathetic just because it somehow "doesn't affect you" or "it's gunna happen eventually hurr durr". NO, it CAN'T happen eventually if you put your foot down and don't buy their console. We won't go down the rabbit hole further if there's zero support for the console.

Microsoft and the publishers can only stand on their two feet BECAUSE OF US. The consumers. They're NOTHING if people don't buy their shit.

I cannot believe how many people just absolutely seemingly... love to defend this practice MS is going forward with.

"I don't have to swap discs! Amazing!"

What the fuck kind of benefit is that? Are you that lazy to get off your ass and take discs out? Is your setup that complicated? This isn't innovation like the remote was to the Television; this is literally taking options away from the consumer.

If you don't support this cause of informing the less informed about this crap that MS is going through with then go elsewhere. You're not changing anyone's minds in here and you KNEW what was being said in here in the first place.

I'm out.

Man people are willing to compromise and bend over for publishers.

Why are people willing to put up with this garbage and why are people defending it?
"Its not as bad as people make it up to be" Its still fucking bad dumbass!

All these DRM features were absent this generation yet publishers made tons of money. Why implement DRM just for the peanuts from used games? Just greed.

For me its easy. Any console with an online requirement that deviates from the customs of the PS360 generation would not be bought. If the PS4 does it then I'd devote more time to reading books, studying and going out and having fun . Pubs can kiss my ass

I'm confused about lending. Isnt it that you lend a game to someone on your friends list (been there 30 days) and then that game can't be lent to that person again? I didn't know that by letting someone borrow something, I would be forfeitting ownership. (According to op anyway)

I won't participate because I am lazy.

However, I am in the opinion that people are free to do what they advocate, if they want to spread the words around so be it. Whether their audience are receptive to this movement is another matter. It is similar to what you have said, if you disagree with this thread, don't bother at all? Let them be.

With steam, the games are cheaper. 59.99 no trade-in..GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE.

Oh, that's an easy one. If many people buy this and make that product a success their term of services are likely becoming a de facto in the whole industry, therefore XBone sales hurt your interest whatever you buy it or not. That happened before: the margin is taken by Apple in the app Store is the margin everybody is charging in their stores, because of the Apple app Store being a success.

Nobody knows how the prices will be on next gen digital stores. What if they end up being more flexible like Steam? Best not to make up your mind on speculation.

Most assuredly.

To what end? Why is this thing such a huge deal to you that it has gotten you so upset? Just let it pass and stop gnashing your teeth.

Oh whoops, pardon me, I've slipped into playing your game.

Compared to a significant amount of people in this thread, I'm the goddamn ancient wise man living atop the nearby mountain.
If you want to call people in this thread stupid at least have the balls to come out and say it. This stuff above is just weak.

It's kind of interesting, really. I just thought about how I'm going to be selling off my Xbox 360 and the games I have accumulated since launch. I have numerous options at my disposal: selling it all to a coworker, on eBay, Craigslist, trading it in to Gamestop, or even donating the thing to an orphanage.

With the Xbox One, I have to go through a "participating retailer". That is literally my only option.

Yeah, no thanks.

Weird, I:

1. Am always online.

2. Don't trade games as I like to collect what I buy/play.

3. I do share games with my family accounts.

4. I support the industry by paying for what I play. More gamers should do this. We're quick to empathise with closing studios and culling of game development staff but we won't really support them with our wallets by actually buying what we play? Please. Many gamers simply use the trade ins as a cheap way to game, pony up and get a job to pay for what you want in life. The same goes for music downloads or movie piracy in that the industry is having to update for the digital times.

5. Outages are covered by a 1 hour play time offline but I do agree this is not good enough. You should be able to play solo games offline for as long as you like, if you own a physical disc or have already downloaded a local digitally purchased version of the game.

6. Anything else I'm really not worried about personally. Sure I understand others may live in areas without Internet (or a crappy connection). I have concerns for them and Xbox One should really support them far better in offline mode.

7. I do agree with the loss of digital content if the servers are pulled. So buy a physical copy if you have that concern. I would imagine a system update would go out to enable all offline should the servers be taken offline in future. This is a highly unlikely scenario though. Azure isn't like a series of dedicated servers for one specific game. Azure is tied to Windows, Office365, Sharepoint, web hosting, database hosting, datacentres, XBL and far more. It's here to stay and Xbox One can be updated to support change or outright closures.

Overall I see merit in some of your points but I don't agree with the knee jerk reaction. In the next 5-10 years most of these issues won't even be discussed by gamers. The industry wants to evolve with the digital evolution, is it perfect with Xbox One? No. Is it something I personally welcome? Yes. Could it use some changes/tweaks? Yes.

Nailed it.
