Final Fantasy XV Announced for PS4

Right now, neither FF15 or KH3 are signed on the dotted line exclusive. FF15 was, once upon a time, pretty much expected as SCE were the ones who made the initial approach for that project to be changed to a next generation platform. KH3 was pursued aggressively, and was near enough finalised about a month ago, but since the MS reveal, a fair few things have changed. So, things are on hold right now, and the contract is essentially in the air. However, SCE does have options on exclusive games from SE.

Secondly, people should really disregard this whole Sony co-developing nonsense. I've said before it's exaggerated, and it really is. I'm also quite confident the so called 'sources' of this nonsense rumour are probably derived from a couple PMs of mine back at the end of January. I told a fair few people (one ended up having a meltdown, and then getting banned), and I imagine some went to places like VGLeaks, and then other sites picked up on it later.

Anyhow, game looks really nice. The segments in the building, and the water city with the boats and European/ME architecture are all real time.

Soooo if your fan of exclusives....... then the PS4 better outsell the XB1. Thats the way it sounds to me.

Is it weird that I'm really excited for this even though I really didn't care for the last two single-player installments in the series?

Is it real-time action, or turn based?

It's real time action. Also I'm in the same boat. Actually the last FF game that I have ever liked (albeit I got into the series late) was FFIX but ever since Versus XIII was announced I was always hyped for it. I never felt the same for FFXIII.

hopefully we will see more, like gameplay video at SE's FF conference?

I know its not streamed but hopefully after that conference they release offical screenshots/videos

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
He was referring to Versus being turned into FFXV.

Adding to what he said: if you look at Verendus' quote, he says "There's a chance FF15, in particular, may be an exclusive release. Kind of."

And this rumor popped out during April: According to our source close to Square Enix, we are able to confirm the arrival of Final Fantasy Versus XIII on PS3 ... and PS4."

This can fit though. I mean it's still an exclusive to Sony consoles but it's not PS4 (nor PS3) exclusive for that matter. Hence the "kind of" exclusive.

Woah...a fully real time, mainline Final Fantasy? That's...a pretty damn big change. I wonder how this will impact what they decide to do in the future.

I'm sure some people don't like that idea, but so far this has looked amazing.

If it was coming to PS3 Sony would have said so at their conference,

Really hope you're right.
I do too. It's odd to want to deprive others of an experience, but there aren't any PS4 exclusives that really interest me as of yet. I need something to really solidify the justification for my purchase decision.

EDIT: I'd rather FFXV be next-gen exclusive than Sony exclusive. Let's not let the dying generation hold back the next.

I'm sure that's exactly what they plan to talk about at tomorrow's "Future of Final Fantasy" press event. :)

yo i don't even like nomura or his games but holy shit did this game look nuts. all that shifting of gravitational perspectives and fucking fast paced fluid combat. i can even overlook the backstreet boys being the protagonists.

looked fucking fun and was a visual spectacle.

Why would MS announcing their console change things?

What changed?

Is Square Enix on the DRM bandwagon?

I'm sure some people don't like that idea, but so far this has looked amazing.

The future is action RPGs, period. Witcher, Dark Souls, Mass Effect, Skyrim, Dragon's Dogma, Dragon Age.

Now SQEX can finally try their hand at a huge action RPG like everyone else has.

Purists expecting turn based games should get Bravely Default.

Verendue delivered
FFXV delivered
PS4 delivered

NOMURA delivered.....I'm so happy right now. Can only imagine what M_Night and Kagari look like right now.

Oh damn I will watch that for sure! Can you gimme a quick time; I'm sorry it's been a really hectic day! Tomorrow is going to be just as crazy/awesome!

Also, seeing them finally announce Versus XIII as FF XV and Kingdom Hearts 3, I expect a full FF VII PS4 remake to be shown off at TGS, followed by a Chrono Break trailer. (Not serious, just a joke.)

Full real-time action. It's Kingdom Hearts + Zone of the Enders + Uncharted.
Hahaha I wish. I'll be happy with Kingdom Hearts 1 gameplay with a more serious atmosphere and story. Speaking of, what ever happened to Zone of the Enders 3? I couldn't care less if they go through with their new theme or whatever was revealed way back when, I just want more ZoE gameplay.

So I wonder if the game takes place primarily or partially in this European city, as Versus featured a modern Tokyo-esque metropolis in its media. Did they scrap it in favor of a new direction for XV?

Verendus was pretty spot on except for the non-KH3 KH title being on PS4 and KH3 is in the works but it won't be revealed any time soon.

Not knowing this pretty much tells you how authoritative he is.
The big reveal this year is actually KH3.

Hey, you'll get no lip from me. WRPG's are my favorite genre, and I love em'. Always have, always will.

Maybe this be the great bridge over the gap I need between East and West to finally appreciate the other side of the genre. The trailer definitely has done nothing but good!

Curious as to what the bit at the end implies -- "A World of the Versus Epic".

Sounds compilationey, but not necessarily part of XIII lore anymore.

Lots of closed quarter combat makes me wary about camera. Just how good is the camera control and can it deal with small indoor areas as well.

Also I noticed a lot more cinematic and very scripted scenes from the looks of things. This doesn't bode well for me. It just screams QTE and stuff. This doesn't really look like an RPG but rather an action game. Of course it's an actiony RPG since that's what the original Versus was going for but I'm starting to feel like this game is focusing a lot more on what looks cool rather than what is cool. Idk...
Well, I'm not sure what Versus is ANYMORE, but at least earlier Nomura said he wanted to incorporate Uncharted like cinematic situations but still keep the open world-ish nature of a traditional FF. Could be that we simply saw that in action while there's still less cinematic more open exploration of big areas as well.

Though, with the way the game is now, I'm not quite sure what is going on with the game, feature-wise. Is it just an Uncharted-ified Versus to make the game like the first reveal trailer back in 2006 or is it still that massive JRPG that they were making for PS3.

So I wonder if the game takes place primarily or partially in this European city, as Versus featured a modern Tokyo-esque metropolis in its media. Did they scrap it in favor of a new direction for XV?

I don't think so. The trailer showed the characters with HP-levels in the thousands and Nomura said that the city in the old trailers is not the only big one, so it just looks like we saw one of the other big ones that we'll see during the game.

They showed the European setting (like italy) since they showed versus. I think its just different location.

Probably a return to more "traditional" Fantasy after the success of Game of Thrones.

I would be okay with this. Entirely 100% okay with it.

The Square panel is at the same time as Nintendo Direct. It's a private event, but a lot of journos are covering it, and I believe Kagari will be there. We probably won't get to watch it, but I'm sure they'll release the trailer then.

Well, that's what it is. Noctis can Zero Shift, he uses the power a bunch in this trailer alone. No idea what happened to ZoE3 though. Kojima's a jerk.

or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Realize This Assgrab is Delicious
Yeah I just showed the trailer to a friend and she said "huh, so its more of an action game?" which is something I literally haven't thought about - a mainline FF now being action RPG.

I didn't read too much into it about Action RPG being "the future" of FF, because it started as a spinoff and was changed to mainline - but I can see how some people might get that impression.

What changed?

Is Square Enix on the DRM bandwagon?
FF sells like a third or more of it's worldwide sales in the Japanese market. I don't think they'd DRM the game, and if they did people could get the Japanese version - although I guess they could as a publisher region lock the specific game.

There's multiple cities/locations. They even mention a number of them in this trailer (Niflheim, Tenebrae, etc.). It would be insane if for some reason they just got rid of the modern looking city, which still exists in the CGI they showed.

Sony's conference hit all the right notes. We finally got to see Versus and then there was Kingdom Hearts 3, the only thing missing was The Last Guardian

If it was coming to PS3 Sony would have said so at their conference,

To my knowledge it existed for a while as a cross-gen game, but eventually the PS3 version got canned when they decided to give the game even more development time (and thus the relevance of being cross-gen faded).

Looks amazing. I'm loving the art direction that popped up with this trailer. That palace/city looks fantastic. I only hope we see this sometime before 2015.

I also don't see why so many people care whether or not it's a system exclusive.

I was too tired to stay up for Sony's conference, but now I wish I did. With the exception of paying for online, they hit the nail directly on the head.

Yeah, didn't Nomura say a long time ago that it's based off the real world and you travel all around the world? And one of the regions is based off of Italy and others will be based off of other regions? There would be a world map with day/night cycles and you could drive around and visit the gas stations even.

Hopefully all that is still in, it's why I got so excited. That said, the action parts are impressive. And boy, was there a lot of action. Nomura seems like he accomplished his goal to make this a real-time Advent Children. Hopefully along with all the action, all the good RPG elements are still intact, unlike XIII...

Yoshichan

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
I hope the people who have XV avatars stick with it till launch!
