Metal Gear Solid V (PS3/360/PS4/XBO/Maybe PC) - Extended 9 minute E3 trailer

I'm not even trying to come across as hyperbolic, but that very well may be the greatest trailer I have ever seen.

That song playing by Donna Burke, it fits the trailer so well.

oh god, all those lost limbs. why kojima, why?

And also, a question
wasn't kaz a secret triple agent for Cypher and Zero? Why are they so hellbent on revenge against cypher now? what did cypher do? (or are these things we don't have answers to yet?)

I think MGS fans range from those who are skeptic because they heard it was good or thought it looked cool. Those who are hardcore fans of the games. And those who liked one or two iterations and that was it.

I meet so many people who have played them. But denounce they were ever a fan or try and hold the horn to anything "good" about the next MGS.

There's bound to be a Hollywood movie from all this.

Its got the most confusing fan base I've ever seen.

We had our "Citizen Kane of gaming"

Is this "Apocalypse Now of gaming?"

I'm just kidding

So excited for this one. If they're building a weapon to "surpass" Metal Gear, I wonder how they're going to explain why the Metal Gears in the original Metal Gear games for the MSX are pieces of junk compared to things like Peace Walker and the AI machines.

I have to somewhat agree with Vasilisk it seems like Miller is the evil master mind and Big Boss just goes on for the ride and carries out orders handed out by Miller. It also seems like Big Boss the way he is conveying his voice aka "I am Demon" seems like he is saying it with resentment not that one of someone who is embracing it. I guess then that Kaz's influence affects Big Boss so much later on that he goes completely evil.

Gone too dark.

Doesn't feel like MGS.

EDIT:
Turns out I quoted the wrong guy, fail!

Don't forget that this is not Solid Snake.

Big Boss was supposed to be an antagonist, shady, grey area figure from the very beginning, starting with Metal Gear on MSX.

There is a bit of shady, grey area to almost every character in this series, you can't expect everyone to have the same heroic legend arc from start to finish.

Ocelot is also known for his torturing techniques, it really is rather consistent to the story.

Game looks absolutely stunning. Can't wait for the PS4 version.

Though let's face it people, Kiefer sounds like shit. I like Hayter, but I was willing to give him a shot since he's a decent actor. My god that was bad. Sounds like your typical Hollywood guy who couldn't give a rat's ass about videogames, and is just phoning it in for that big fat paycheck. Disappointing more than anything.

Didn't get that feeling at all. Hayter has as much emotion with line delivery as a deep fried baseball glove. Kiefer sounded distraught and lost, which makes sense for the Big Boss character as of now.

You really think Hayter would be better?

If anything it's all the realism coming at once. The amount of battles Big Boss has been in, and the most he lost is an eye?

Also, phantom pain. Not feeling pain from what you have, but also from what you've lost. Miller lays it on thick, and it'll probably be core to MGSV.

It looks like Cipher wipes out Mother Base and tortures Kaz, for who knows how long. Snake wakes from his coma, rescued by Ocelot and goes to Afghanistan. Perhaps Kaz was tortured during the entirety of those 9 years, "What took you so long", and is therefore really vengeful.

That problem with Hayter was that nobody talks like that. I'd take Sutherland over him any day.
(And Ôtsuka over both, naturally).

Just started listening. They censored a part where they talk about Chico, but based on Kikuchi's reaction, things are looking grim for him as well.

Damn sounds like a lot of important MGS people will die.

Thanks Erigu, keep us updated please.

I'm sure we will see in this game how Big Boss turns evil so yeah ...gone too dark.

Diminishing returns.....lol

Lots of games we saw for the XBone and especially PS4 show us that that line ain't gonna fly.

I'm not sure I will want to play the game though, MGS4 left a bad taste in my mouth and the story seems more convoluted than all other MGS combined.

I was never a fan of 24 and haven't seen a lot of Kiefer Sutherland movies so I'm having a little bit of trouble figuring out which lines are Snake and which ones are Miller at some points in the trailer. But from what I do know is certainly Miller, Robin Atkin Downes sounds awesome. He was great in Peace Walker.

I wonder if Big Boss is really killing Chico or those children with the diamonds. For Chico, he could be trying to put pressure on a wound or maybe trying to get him to pass out for some reason, not actually die. Plus Chico is there when they're pulling that package out of Paz. And with the diamond kids, just because you see a shot of Snake shooting the gun after a shot of them doesn't mean the two actions happen one right after the other. He could be shooting at someone else, maybe enemies walking in and finding him. We've all seen movies where someone is seen doing something but it's edited in such a way that what we initially believed turns out to be wrong.

The original Metal Gear games had a son killing is biological father.
Big Boss being Solid Snake's father was a Metal Gear Solid retcon.

I'm guessing Kaz is a bit mad about that attack on their base and his missing limbs.

Come on, don't sully this by besmirching the good work of Hayter, please. I just want to enjoy the MGS excitement and speculation.

This game has a lot in common with PW, and its probably not the most played MG game.

True. I didn't notice chico being with Paz until someone else mentioned it. And the caged Chico part is from GZ, which is being confirmed as the prologue afaik.

Maybe? People are saying it's Miller, but the face looks way too off to be him, if you ask me.

I really don't feel like Big Boss could ever be described as "evil". Misled and wrong, perhaps, but with how he's being painted in games shows a guy dealing with some heavy issues and this game seems to make that even clearer.

Maybe? People are saying it's Miller, but the face looks way too off to be him, if you ask me.

I kind of still think it's Campbell.

This is one the highlights of the show for me, the game just looks stunning and the characters from the trailer look really interesting.

The line "Cipher took us to hell ... but we're going deeper" is just one of the most badass things I've ever heard in a game.

Kojima confirmed the girl indeed is Paz (and it's Chico who's holding her guts while the medic does his thing).

EDIT: Beret guy confirmed to be Kaz, too.

Link?

Also, if that is Miller in looking Diamond Dogs CO-like and going overboard with vengeance it will probably loop back around to what happens to him just before the Shadow Moses Incident.

Is it just me or does Kaz sound similar to Big Boss (I know the actors are different, but it's just weird).

Yeah, they do sound quite similar at times. When they say 'war calls for wetwork and we answer, no greater good, no just cause' I'm not sure whether it's Kaz or Big Boss talking.

The thing is, I don't think Big Boss was actually "evil" either.

That's the whole issue with MGS4,
you find out that Solid was the pawn, and Big Boss was the one effectively trying to fight against Cypher and the Patriots regime and AI that Zero set up.

So not a single word about WHEN is gonna be released?

We still don't know if it's even just one game. The whole Ground Zeroes/Phantom Pain thing is still up in the air, isn't it? To me it sounded like Kojima wanted to make it a two-part thing, but who knows?

Just going to have to just wait and see.

Probably answered already and I didn't see it...but any word if it is being ported over to the PS4 or if they designed the next gen versions around the new hardware? I really want to get this on PS4, and would pick it up at launch if that is the case. I just don't want to do that if its a glorified port.

Looks fantastic gameplay wise but graphically I'm not going to get my hopes up that the game will come close to this given Kojima's record with MGS4.
