Looks great, still nothing about Ground Zeros?

I think it's the same game. There is just a lot of confusion around it. GZ is the prologue to MGSV as tanker was for MGS2 and virtuous mission was for MGS3.

Yes, and also a Konami rep said he couldn't confirm a PC release, so they seem to be hush-hush about it like they were with Rising.

Got a source on that? Would like to see that.

Destiny, MGSV, and The Division are my most wanted PC ports right now.

I thought they said it was 2 different products? Yeah, they seriously need to come out and clarify that.

I haven't been following this series., but....aren't they the same game? Ground Zeroes simply being the (incredibly lame) code name and Phantom Pain being the (only slightly less lame) final title?

Adding so people can see on the new page.

Wikipedia said:
Code talkers were people who used obscure languages as a means of secret communication during wartime. The term is now usually associated with the United States soldiers during the world wars who used their knowledge of Native-American languages as a basis to transmit coded messages. In particular there were approximately 400-500 Native Americans in the United States Marine Corps whose primary job was the transmission of secret tactical messages. Code talkers transmitted these messages over military telephone or radio communications nets using formal or informally developed codes built upon their native languages. Their service improved communications in terms of speed of encryption at both ends in front line operations during World War II.

I learned that in Highschool, surprised I didn't remember this sort of info. "Denied of his homeland" makes me think he's not American/Indian though. I guess he could still have that tag if it's about the Indian tribe he belongs to, it would just be weird to bring that up in 1984.

He probably did do coding/decoding work though.

EDIT: Actually, how old is Code Talker? If he's over a hundred years old him being a Indian makes a lot of sense.

I'm guessing Code Talker was a code talker (duh) for the Americans in WWII, and either was banished out of America (perhaps like his ancestors; maybe another metaphor) for knowing too much, or hearing/seeing something he disagreed with and argued with.

I think Kojima wants to keep the relationship between Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain a deliberate mystery until he has to.

EDIT: Apparently not quite so then. I wonder if he's just keeping the release model a mystery then. He's not exactly clear on whether Ground Zeroes is a full game, or a tanker chapter sort of deal.

Agreed. But I think this is how it is:

I don't think so.

GZ will be sold first as a "prologue" which what Kojima said originally at PAX 2012. They seem to be drawing the attention away from all of this for some reason. But in the interview with Geoff during GDC Kojima said GZ will come first and after that TPP will release. They haven't been very straightforward.

Yeah we already know that, but is it a seperate game?

You mean is it sold separately? I'm kind of hoping it is. They did state it once, but haven't clarified since. I think we're getting the MGS2 treatment beyond just GZ being a prolouge, I think all we've been shown IS Ground Zeros (mostly anyway). If it came out towards the end of this year/early next year, I wouldn't really be surprised.

Finally got to see this thanks to work keeping me busy all day.

Honestly...I didn't feel anything watching the trailer. The later half with the "cast" listing and the Donna Burke song felt like an MGS trailer, but all the gameplay looked more like Assassin's Creed than anything else. Maybe it's just the fact that I don't like Big Boss as a character and didn't want another prequel, but I'm just not feeling it. The change to Snake's voice isn't helping either.

I never thought I'd be saying this, but I think I might just be done with Metal Gear. And Koijima, at this rate.

No joke at the end of the trailer. Lame.

I thought the "fun" was the goofy mech that BB was riding. Probably a guy shitting in a middle of a war zone was not to mean in a trailer with torture, child soldiers and sympathic characters going bad.

Maybe mistranslation. Maybe Kojima meant GZ will happen not come before TPP.
I remember a tweet from him talking about that interviews were often mistranslated.

Paying twice for one game?

Eh, I wouldn't assume they'd just try to sell me two $60 games. I certainly wouldn't hop on that boat. I always kind of figured it along the lines of DLC getting released before the actual game, in this case a sort of episodic prolouge.

So Eli's eyes are green.

Pretty sure he is liquid
It's hard to tell at this point, you can't get a clear grab of his eyes; and in an earlier screengrab I went all Huelen and eyedropped it only to see blue more than anything.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if it was Liquid, that's a more plausible MGS-style retcon than those who think Quiet is Sniper Wolf.

Kojima going full-on with the mature content.
As soon as I saw hand in abdomen I had to turn that thing off.
Hurts my teeth, so to speak.

Again, yes prologue to MGS5 as the tanker was to MGS2 and virtuous mission to MGS3.

Those were prologues.

The guy just said 'We can't comment on how these things will be distributed'. That's the key word, why would they need to talk about the distribution of two chapters within one game?

I absolutely love all the metaphors that Kojima works into his games and trailers, adds so much flavor. I'm probably not the only who noticed this, but "Punished Snake" is clearly a reference to the Adam and Eve story, where God punished the snake for tempting Adam and Eve by taking away his limbs.

Snake has lost his arm, Miller also loses arm and leg. Also, Ocelote's code name in MGS3 was Adam and Eva's was Eve. THE CONNECTIONS!

Holy shit.

Sorry but who said that? i'm on my phone.

That trailer was intense. They really are pushing things.

Any update on release or that whole GZ / PP being two separate game things? Would be nice if Ground Zeros was out in 2013 if the full MGSV game isnt available till 2014.

And I bet a PC version will depend on how Lords of Shadows and MGR do.
And they should do good once they are good ports and on steam and not just on some shitty konami store.

You really don't want to force the guy into putting a theme into it, do you? I mean, I love the true MGS theme with all my hear and soul but at the end of the day it's his vision.

So I just noticed that it was Quiet being tortured with the shock sticks at the beginning of the trailer because of the pants and the holes they had in them.
