Hopefully Sony buys them. MS would be okay too, but without a handheld console it wouldn't make much sense. I really want to see Persona 5 on strong hardware, so I pray Nintendo doesn't ruin it for me.

Hardware power will not dictate where Persona 5 goes. Given the choice of PS3 or PS4, Atlus would probably put P5 on PS3 + Vita.

No, if anything, things should be going as usual until everything is done.

They've stated that the development of all previously announced titles of theirs will continue.

As for unannounced, aka Persona 5, I dunno. Did Saints Row 4's development continue during the THQ madness?

I would think the show must go on. Back when Disney purchased Lucasfilm, apparently everyone just kept on working until Disney decided what they would do with the parts.

Okay, then I feel a bit better about this. Still potentially scary for what will come after all current projects are finished, but I'm glad it's business as usual for now.

I don't know how factual that figure is, but I know their debt is definitely non-trivial.
And, second:
Take a look at Atlus's IPs. Are they worth $15M?

It doesn't matter what the amount of the debt is. A re-formed Atlus can be sold even if the debt is not cleared.

Sadly, what gamers want is irrelevant here. The creditors will want Atlus sold for the top offer, wherever it comes from. But it's probably easier to convince a strong offer from some business in the industry. Let's pray it's not a hardware maker; the hardware makers need to compete for Atlus products - Atlus will be strongest that way. The worst would probably be Microsoft who could just shift the programmers to doing fantasy football stuff.

Even though an outsider buying is unlikely, that's not bad. Maybe something marginally bad happens, like... Atlus gets bought by a fast food company. Jack Frost becomes Frosty Joe and gets involved in some cross promotion. (lol, if it works out then prolly good for gamers even)

P5 would be fine on current gen consoles and Wii u however if it ends up on 3DS I would be disappointed.

Development is not the same thing as releasing, unfortunately :(

South Park got pushed back by Ubisoft by what? 6 months?

Persona isn't the type of game that benefits greatly from strong hardware. And atlus really isn't the type of developer to put in the extra effort to make it look pretty. See: SMT IV, P4G

Don't even joke about that...

This hasn't happened yet.

Gut feeling says Square-Enix will buy them.

catherine looks fantastic and it has a lot of visual similarities to persona. it would definitely benefit from better hardware. i wouldn't compare it to p4g when that game was just a port of a ps2 game.

Persona and Shin Megami Tensei definitely could benefit from stronger hardware, but I don't think even current Atlus has shown any willingness to jump to it and raise their budget accordingly. There hasn't even been a PS3 Persona yet, why are people in this thread apparently so sure we're going to see a PS4 Persona ahead of that?

If Atlus USA killed their Saturn plans in 1996, why did they release Lunacy in the US in 1997?

But yeah, it was odd how they started with Revelations, and then changed the name.
Altus didn't, SOA picked up and published Lunacy. Atlus USA was planning to publish Steamgear Mash, Revelations: Devil Summoner and Lunacy before they killed Saturn publishing.

Two mods were hinting about it or trolling :/

Someone tell Yoshida! Sony, what are you waiting for?! Save them!

Start a Twitter movement, GAF. #SonySaveAtlus

Hell or Nintendo! SOMEONE, please for the love of everything.

If Sega bought them, they'd end up halfheartedly localizing one SMT game for the 3DS or Vita and then give up.
Still bitter.

I was going to say this. Would be quite something if it takes off. I'm sure Sony has already thought about this, along with other potential buyers.

People wanting Sony to buy Atlus makes me sad. I'd PREFER Nintendo, because FE X SMT piqued my interest but ideally neither of them.

Lunacy says Atlus on it, not Sega. Sega published it in Japan and Europe, but Atlus's logo is on the US release.

Steamgear Mash US release would have been awesome though!

Gah! Please tell me that Atlus is not in any trouble. I really liked the idea of SMT x FE. And it is strange that they haven't released any info at all on P5. They teased in Jan 2012 that new info was coming, but nothing.

Nintendo bought Monolith, maybe they'll buy Atlus? With Ninty's budget Xenoblade came out amazing. Imagine a SMT or Persona game with Nintendo's resources!

Well, I just hope nothing untoward happens to Atlus. I don't wanna hear of any game cancellations :(

Yeah, I'm really wondering what's gonna happen to the 3DS games, regardless of who snaps them up (unless it's Nintendo of course).

It's all a numbers game now. If it was a hardware publisher, I'd prefer Sony, just because I like the Vita more. And personally, it makes sense as a good way to kickstart Vita talk in Japan.

But, it's most likely going to be someone nobody's heard of, like the first time Atlus was bought.

As long as the ATLUS team is kept together and allowed to work on whatever they want, including Persona, I honestly don't care who gets them.

Catherine looked so good because of the art style though, which incidentally is the art style I hope they use for Persona 5.

As others have mentioned though, I don't think Atlus really needs the best hardware. I highly doubt they'd max out the Wii U, let alone even the PS3. My concern with someone like Nintendo potentially buying Atlus doesn't have to do with their hardware, but that I'm doubtful Nintendo would have let the Persona team take a break from making Atlus' most popular IP to make a game like Catherine that seemed like it would have little interest outside of Japan (but apparently did surprisingly well, thankfully).

As I said earlier though, I'm not picky about who buys Atlus, just as long as they're able to keep making great games.

Oh, we're back to begging for platform holders to buy Atlus now? OK then.

I think it's pretty crazy that people are expecting Sony to come up and do stuff.
There would have to be a complete overhaul of development, since almost all of their internally developed games are coming out for 3DS and Wii U.

Pretty much this- Platform holders/begging is really just to appease my hope that this gets settled soon, and they don't have to compromise their creativity.

But these things never get settled quickly.

People suggesting Nintendo are stupid or trolls. Yes, Nintendo has a history of publishing M rated games about the occult and post apocalypse. As for Sony, that would limit Atlus selling games on Nintendo handheld which is bad for business.

I'm really hoping for Sega Sammy to swoop in and save the day.

Anyone suggesting Sega, I hope you like the idea of Tony Taka or another hentai artist working on a SMT game.
