Kudos to 343i

I loved Halo 4 campaign and adore the MP. Never understood the hate. Yeah it helps noobs with ordnances but so what?? Gives a chance to everyone to use a power weapons unlike other Halos. Thats fine with me.

Screw the haters. I am gettin an X1 just for Halo. 343i keep doin the hard work and congratulations!!

Everyone had a chance to use power weapons in previous Halo games. That's actually one of the main components of multiplayer strategy. The rush for the initial power weapon spawns followed by the timing/location of subsequent spawns. Halo 4 throws all of this out the window. No skill is required; who needs to remember weapon locations and spawn times when it all shows up on your HUD?

I remember all the crap Halo 3 got when it was released. The actual shooting and sensation of collision in Halo 4 is head and shoulders above Halo 3. The basic locomotion is better as well. I'm not talking graphics.

I don't get the complaints that are waged against Halo 4. It plays really well. Reach played really well too. Guess the pure simplicity of gameplay is taken as a unchangeable tenant by hardcore fans.

Halo 3 has hit detection problems (netcoding wasn't ready for P2P bullet physics) and aim/movement acceleration were very unwelcomed additions.

Halo 4 however is near childish in it's ease of aiming. Add to that flinch instead of descoping and you get a game where practially every single player can aim like an MLG Pro. It's terrible and that isn't even going into the rest of the stuff added to multiplayer with the express purpose of lowering the skill gap :(

I'm not, I've played them all with the exception of Reach which just bored me to tears, as did ODST. I haven't liked a Halo game since 2.

Than I would personally rent it. I wouldn't buy it knowing what I do now. Hell, I only bought it because I was fooled into believing it was going to be better than Reach.

I can barely tell the diff between Reach and 4 aiming and firing wise in MP. I would have to fo a full A-B.

I don't get this skill ceiling thing people go on about. In every Halo, CoD, Battlefield, etc match you have amazing players with huge KD ratios and you get mid range and scrubs/noobs. Obviously there is some benefit to playing well otherwise everything would be even.

Mechanic evolution is part and parcel of games. I bought the new Counterstrike on XBLA when it came out and played 10 minutes of it before being bored to tears by how archaic the whole thing was. Even Battlefield 1943 embraced more modern conventions and that was released years prior.

Game is a disapointment and everyone else agrees.

I'm lucky to find 1000 people in a playlist during my local primetime.

can you post graphs of similar games? I see this graph all the time, but I've no clue how it relates to other multi player shooters.

Yea, because anything that has an overwhelming opinion is automatically more credible.

I cite Justin Bieber as my source.

Not exactly apples to apples comparison.

People who dislike Justin Bieber were most likely never fans of Justin Bieber. There are plenty of people who dislike Halo 4 and dropped it within months of release who had played the previous Halos religiously up until the release of the next Halo game.

The game was discounted really quickly though compared to any previous Halo I feel. $20 off everywhere after a couple weeks still during the holidays. That no doubt helped.

I don't think you will find one of previous games as it's mostly used to laugh at Halo 4.

It's just a graph showing the highest number of unique players online at any given time during the day. Halo 3 and Halo Reach both had significantly higher numbers.

I was comparing the amount of opinions. Not the amount of time someone has liked a thing.

I'm saying that just because something has a shit ton of popularity (or unpopularity) does not justify it being bad, or good.

Apart from Call of Duty and Battlefield they all drop off to under 1000 daily peak within a week...then less than 50 within 3 months from my experience. Not sure about Killzone but I assume it's alot lower than COD, Halo and Battlefield.

The biebs might have a lot of "haters" but the amount of fans would massively out numbered them.

This is very confusing to me. Best selling of all time of best selling of respective launch year?

Best selling of all time... in their respective launch year... in the US!

I somehow doubt that accolade will end up in Guinness book of records.

How is this news bending the truth in any way? MS is comparing sales to previous Halo games in an equal timeframe. This makes sense.

Just so I know where you're coming from, what do you consider mechanically evolutionary in Halo 4, and what did you find archaic about CS:GO?

in what world is Halo 4 "terrible"?

This one.

Halo 4 single player is not the least bit enjoyable. Homogenized Covenant. Uninteresting Prometheans. Bullet sponges. "Run out of ammo? Here, pick up this weapon, it's completely different! (And indistinguishable.)" Absolutely horrible story. It's a lousy excuse for a Halo and it's the final nail in the coffin. The series is dead to me. (Halo CE, however, lives on.)

Can't tell you anything about multiplayer. Haven't touched it.

Halo 4 was different but I liked it and I'm a long time Halo fan.
Same here. And unlike many in HaloGAF, I *wanted* different (and expected it with the transition from Bungie to 343). But we all have different lines in the sand that determines what's true to Halo and what's not, and what adds new dimensions of gameplay and what removes them.

I like it both ways. I liked that a lot of people has the chance to get power weapons. Spiced up the matches considerably and changed up the dynamics of the match. You never knew what your enemy could be wielding and had to adapt. Good fun to me.

Except I think it does if the game isn't even able to hang on to its core fanbase. It'd be different if its changes ended up losing that fanbase but replacing it with an equal or greater number of news fans. If you go by the MP statistics alone its simply not.

Except by definition of opinion, you can't. I am part of it's core fan base and I really enjoy the game. But I guess its still a bad game though because everyone else hates it! Guess I should go sell it because everyone else has a different opinion than me!

Halo 4 will always be better than Halo 3 because Halo 3 doesn't have jet packs.
You've already been reprimanded over this absolutely ridiculous statement, but I'm going to kill myself now just to drive the point home.

Halo 4 is an offense to the entire franchise. I can't imagine how the guys at Bungie feel, seeing their old baby taken out back, shot, and then shit on by corporate executives.

Excellent news, Halo 4 was my favourite halo game since 1 (and yes that includes multiplayer).

Everyone has different tastes, i enjoyed some of the enemy changes and weapons.

Nice twisting of the numbers, it's the worst in the series by far. Shame too, used to be my most played franchise.

10x better than Reach, easily.

I really do tire of the gaming side Halo 4 hate threads. We should just keep Halo relegated to Community. We have one like every week now, and no matter the topic it turns into "Halo 4 really sucks though!"

I whinny my fervor lowly, for his length is not as great as those of the Hylian war stallions
BTW I have no idea how to parse the statements in the OP.

So, I take it thats supposed to be impressive? Somehow?

I still have no idea what the fuck Microsoft is talking about.

The best selling title in one year from Microsoft games studios?

I think you have a shitty taste in games but thanks for sharing. What does duke nukem have to do with halo again ?

I

Here's some examples of the problems with Halo 4:

  • Instant Respawn
  • Sprint
  • Custom Loadouts
  • Armor Abilities
  • Perks
  • Specializations (one allows you to essentially remove flinch when scoped)
  • Personal Ordnance Drops
  • Global Ordnance Drops (which I believe 343 has removed for the most part)
  • Flinch
  • Mediocre Maps
  • Redundant Weapons
  • Frame Rate Dips
  • Poor skill-based matching
  • Lack of custom game options
[*]Removal of legacy game modes (assault, juggernaut, 1 flag ctf, race, etc)
  • FileShare didn't work for months with no explanation
  • Shitty UI (jesus)

A big one from those Legacy modes that is missing is Firefight.

The funny thing is you have only listed the MP problems, lets go onto SP.

  • Serious non English speaking Grunts
  • Terrible A.I on both sides
  • No Brutes
  • Promethean enemy variety is sparse
  • Promethean move list is sparse (can't hijack/knock you off vehicles for example, just teleport and shoot)
  • QTEs (even in Co-op)
  • Uncontrollable turret segments
  • Smaller/narrower levels (worse than Halo 2)
  • New Promethean weapons don't feel alien enough
  • Plot hole filled story
  • Having to use Waypoint to view Terminals
  • Forward of to Dawn connection is stupid and is only acknowledged once.
  • No easter eggs outside the RvB stuff in Spartan Ops
  • Chief talking too much
  • Showing Chiefs face
  • Too many cutscenes
  • Doing something terminal to one of characters when it was unnecessary
