Cancelled my Amazon.com order and placed on with a third-party seller in the UK who'll ship immediately for the equivalent price. In that way, I'll avoid potential tax incursion and get the book(s) immediately.

I got completely blindsided and my copy turned up today. Good job I was in as I was expecting early August still. On a related note I'm not sure Dark Horse knows what a slipcover is as it's more like a box (plus not one of the books would 'slip' out, needed to jiggle) with a rather classy fabric finish that adds that little bit extra. Worth the agony and wait? Yeah for sure.

Congrats to you guys who got it! Sounds really nice.

I'm not sure what the hell is going on with this release, Amazon.com and BN still say August yet it's clearly out.

I'm probably gonna get screwed out of this one too.

Amazon.uk went from In-Stock to "Usually ships in 9-11 days". Not good. And North American retailers have no clue about it.

This is going incredibly smoothly. I swear if Dark Horse bungles this release again after saying it's NOT limited (and they DID say that, see page 1) to boot...

Gamestop's date was bumped up to the 9th. As I expected, they are just bumping it up to the next Tuesday until they get it.

My Amazon order has delivery set for August 6th still. Keep hoping it will change.

Same here.

Ugh photos of this thing are turning up on twitter, it looks so nice. It's like a kick to the nuts every time I see it. Was sooooo happy when it got announced but there was always that voice in me that said "remember last time?". I really hope I'm wrong but Dark Horse isn't inspiring confidence with their silence right now.

Im going to just break down and order it from TFAW...but man 15 bucks shipping is kinda alot.

It seems a lot, but it is pretty heavy, so it doesn't surprise me.
They charged me $36 to ship it to NZ.

Amazon are only charging $15 to ship two copies here, but I bet they underestimated and will have to bear the extra cost.

That is, if they even ship them out.

Looking at the order info 6 lbs. does sound like it would take a little bit. Im in.

Wish I could join you. I just can't afford to pay over 100$ right now especially with the Fall semester coming up. I'm left with my order on Amazon.

I really, really hope things don't go how I fear they will...

Just had an email from Amazon (UK), the release date has been brought forwards and my copy has been sent out today! yay :D
No e-mail for me. Order page still say 6th August. If I call customer services they'll tell me it comes out then as the product page says that. Sounds like a rerun of the last time...

Well I have pre-orders at Amazon.com ($60.91) and .co.uk (£41.60) and would prefer to cancel one but I'm not prepared to move until one of them goes to dispatching soon status (I'm going to end with both dispatched...I know it).

Pre-orders made on Feb 16th (.com), Mar 3rd (.co.uk).

Amazon.uk went from In-Stock to "Usually ships in 9-11 days". Not good. And North American retailers have no clue about it.
Why would it go in-stock before they dispatch everyones pre-orders. Grr...

I'll avoid potential tax incursion and get the book(s) immediately.
I thought books were zero rated for VAT. In any case Amazon.com didn't do the tax estimate, pre-pay (and avoid post office charging £8 handling fee) thing is does for taxable items.

Sounds like what they did last time. People that got it Day 1 got the LE but people with pre-orders were shafted. I was the same as you now with orders in January cancelled the UK one to avoid ending up with dupes. Fingers crossed they get copies on .com soon.

I have to wonder if perhaps these batch in the UK is some kind of a fluke. I checked at Diamond Distributors (Dark Horse's distro) and the list confirms that there was a shipping date change, but the date is July 10th. That would also explain why it went from In Stock to "Ships in 9-11 days" so fast.

I just can't image Dark Horse outright lying. I mean, I know with the box they didn't really say it was limited, but they also didn't say it WASN'T limited. This time they did -- twice on twitter.

Why would it go in-stock before they dispatch everyones pre-orders. Grr...

Do you live in the UK? If you do, amazon.uk marketplace has a few sellers with it at the same price Amazon.uk itself was selling. You can go for that. It looks like GAME has it too.

Mmmmm I really want this set but I'll have to pass for now. I prefer to save a bit and find the original set (with the box and the Amano autograph) on eBay.

Also, shipping alone for South America for this baby is easily about a hundred $$$. :(

Btw, anyone has some pics of it? I'd like to see exactly how different the slipcase is from the box and the build quality of the books.

Amazon is 10 dolars less than Book Depository.

Anyone knows if a 600 hardcover book needs less than 10 dollars to ship to south america ? =P

Yeh that does sound familiar. I think what happened was the release was set for a particular date, then they inexplicably shipped some out early, then that was actually all they had, so anyone who didn't get it early, didn't actually get it at all.

So by the time the release date actually came, they were all gone.

I know this isn't supposed to be limited, but this situation is getting more and more familiar. I'm glad I ordered from TFAW this time, and if my Amazon ones come, then oh well, at least I have a couple spare for friends.

The $100 shipping I mention is the minimum amount people on eBay charges for the Limited Edition Boxed version. Perhaps Amazon or other online retailers have more reasonable prices, but I doubt it, since this is a really heavy set.

And nope, you won't find a shipping cost below $10 no matter where it is sent from. If anything, you should pay for the most secure shipping option to protect this beauty. Especially if it will travel half across the globe.

Im definitely going to have to change up my gaming budget to be sure. Wasnt planning on any major purchases game wise for awhile, but with Gamestop floundering around and Amazon doing the same (although at a great price if that comes through)...figured I might as well.

The best part about Amazon was not only the strangely low price, but also free super saver shipping.

I am talking about the non boxed set....

But yeah ... Bookdepository and their free shipping will be it =P

"Delivery Estimate: Monday, August 12, 2013 - Friday, August 16, 2013 by 8:00pm"

son of a bitch

dunno about you, i received my reprint like last week from book depository :p
oh and well book depository shipped me a boxed edition, though it's not the old limited edition boxed..
:p

I hope this doesn't end up like the first batch. I'll be pretty bummed. I've had it preordered from Amazon from January and I'm mad at myself for missing the first print. On a side note I ordered the Phoenix Wright art book a few weeks ago from Amazon and they are expecting that in a few weeks so I hope I get that one. (It has been in and out of availability for a while)

So then Book depository is good to go? I dont see any way to cancel a TFAW order either :(

Anyone have a picture of the new packaging?

I'm not opening mine until I get a reading copy (or until it's clear I won't be getting a second copy for reading), but it is pretty much a big box like the first print.

Edit: And yes it's all nice and fabric-y too like the original!

Tempted to go with Book Depository as well since it isn't that much more than what Amazin was selling it for.

But it is a big slipcase right? Or when you say box it actually means a box that opens up?

I would very much appreciate some pics when you open it! :)

Well I'm not sure since I haven't opened it, hehe. But it is a slipcase I guess. I think when I heard slipcase I thought it'd be a thin cardboard cover with an opening at one side, but this is all closed in and is a few mm thick. Here's another shot of the top so you could see how it might open (and how thick it is).

That's exactly what I'm worried about happening here.

Dark Horse's silence isn't helping either.

@ photos

I have to give Dark Horse credit for not going cheap, that is a gorgeous slipcase. Too bad I'll likely never have it ;-;

Their silence is normal. They suck so bad.

At this stage I'd say just bite the bullet and order from TFAW.

Nice picture. Thanks. Yeah, I see it opens from the side and seems to cover all the front and to leave just a hole on the side when open. Look really nice and sturdy indeed. Glad that DH didn't go cheap on this edition.

That is one ugly cover

Publication date on DH's website is now July 10th.

Also the Amazon sales rank spiked from like 5,000 to 1,000 now. Looks like a lot of people bought it today. This was a pretty good seller for a video game artbook, it seldom went past 10,000 on the Amazon bestseller rank, usually lingered around 4,000-5,000 where some video game artbooks go to like 20,000. If this isn't limited, I hope Dark Horse at least took into account the demand for it.

Go on Peagles do it! Open it up. You know you want to. ;)

Joking aside here's some pics of what the 'slipcover' looks like and to gauge its build quality.

Books are exactly the same as apart from noting first print dates. Cover and contents untounched. Though I would like the All About Yositaka Amano book as a companion but beggars can't be choosy.

One of the descriptions about the slipcases I read mentions how the cover is closed like one of those magnet based locks.

GAME is £65 instore, £55 online (there is a 10% off £50 code that might work for a few more days...).

In that sense of other places having stock I'll be patient with Amazon. Last time I found out about the limited nature it was too late to really act but here it seems like quite a few more retailers have stock. Plus how Hyrule Historia has had reprints gives me (possibly false) hope.

Dark Horse said twice on twitter (once you can see on Page 1) this wasn't going to be a Limited Edition, so I'm holding them to that. And you are right about the other places having stock... a lot of stores are getting this it seems. Game stores, bookstores, comic shops, etc. Across the lake over here, even Walmart has it listed.

Really, they have no reason to not print more of these. Final Fantasy is huge, and they would basically be printing money to keep it in stock.

so i ordered one via hive, an amazon.co.uk third party, only to find that amazon changed the release date to july 20 something and THEN to it arriving tomorrow of all times! so i am trying to cancel my hive order before they dispatch, otherwise it might be a lengthy return process. ah well, amazon may have actually pulled through! hope i get it tomorrow it looks gorgeous!
