Since "The Bear & The Maiden Fair" just popped up on Spotify... can we talk about how fucking weird the credit song of S3E3 was?!

Terrible. It removes you from the shock caused by the final scene and you find yourself distracted by how out of place the song is.

Usually the credit songs are great, if not down right amazing(The Rains of Castamere after Blackwater for example.) They would have been better off getting that Bolton bannerman with the angelic voice to do his version

yeah but I think their argument was that it's supposed to be kinda jarring, to match the moment. I think it was a terrible decision as well, but I can see why they made it.

Also, now that we know the story of the Lannister song, in retrospect, doesn't that guy have huge balls for maiming Jaime?! Tywin is an intense sonofabitch who kills whole families and you go and chop his son's hand off?! Man.

It was absolutely perfect. Great song, perfectly placed and executed. It provided the perfect kind of contrast and added a much-needed punch of insanity to the dramatic moment that preceded it.

I loved it, and kudos to the show-runners for having the balls to do it and not go with a safe, boring choice like choral singing or somber instrumentals.

I didn't even hear the song. I was in shock that moment.

I turned it off immediately and just stared at the tv. Somehow that hand scene hit me pretty hard.

Definitely. Bolton would turn Locke over in a second if Tywin wanted someone to answer for Jaime. He might do it anyway, as extra reassurance; I would. Tywin's reaction to his son's maiming will be interesting, though. A lot of the resentment he holds towards Tyrion stems from his physical inadequacies. Now he has a one-handed Kingslayer to go along with his retched little creature. No doubt that's not how he envisioned the heirs of the Lannister legacy--his heirs, most of all.

But even if Tywin wanted revenge , would Jaime want it for himself at this point? Nothing facilitates change like trauma, and beyond that I got the impression Jaime accepted what happened to him as payment for all the horrible shit he's done. It's why he refused milk of the poppy as the maester cut & burned away the infected areas of his wound, it's why he seemed almost dismissive of Locke before finally leaving Harrenhall, and I don't think it was coincidental that he never shared the Kingslayer origin story before the hand that did the deed was removed.

This was actually Gary Lightbody from Snow Patrol singing in a cameo role.

So, rewatching the show, and I'm on season 2, episode 2. Littlefinger has his creepy conversation with Ros about bad investments. He starts off by asking "did he hurt you?" And I've only just realized he was probably asking in the way that a person might check a phone after they drop it. Sick bastard.

Little did Ros know, she would meet the same fate as
the 'bad investment' in Baelish's story. Sold to a sociopath for their sadistic pleasure.

Still rewatching season 2. I think they may have had that white eye effect for wargs as early as the third episode of season 2. Kinda hard to see. You see through the eyes of the wolf as it follows Hodor to Bran's room, and when Bran wakes up, I could swear for a split second you see his eyes are all weird. Pretty kewl, if I'm seeing it correctly.

So, excluding Baelor, Blackwater, and The Rains of Castamere( too easy), what are your favorite episodes?

Top 6:

-The Wolf and the Lion
-A Golden Crown
-Fire And Blood
-And Now His Watch is Ended
-Kissed By Fire
-The North Remembers

I really like all of those, I'd add The Pointy End on there.

I'd probably say And Now His Watch is Ended is my overall favorite. Even including the Episode 9s. Probably in the minority though on that one. I might need a full series rewatch to decide though.

The Dracarys scene in episode 4 is probably my favorite in the show. I never even liked Dany all that much but they nailed that scene.

Heads up: with Comic-Con approaching you guys will want to be wary of spoilers. I'm especially concerned that the panel might lead to a specific spoiler, thanks to assholes in the crowd. So yea, you might want to wait for us to watch it lol.

The panel should be safe as all the questions are pre-screened for an event like that, but agreed with PhoenixPause that it's a good call let a book reader here okay it first, just in case.

Don't worry. I'm gonna be there in person to keep those assholes in check!

I'm really glad people are still discovering the show. Hopefully this translates into bigger numbers for next season.
Aria and Sansa present...VINECEPTION.

Anyway, is this still the to-go thread for non-spoilery thangs regarding S4?
Yes, if only because everywhere else in gaf is slightly more spoilery.

Been playing Mass Effect 2/3 recently?

Hodor!

translated: i watched all 3 seasons in about 2 weeks and i can't wait for season 4.

I watched them in 6 days. I beat you.

Is it recommendable to start reading one of the books now? Consider I didn't know anything about GoT until I saw the series. I'm asking because I know several things were changed from the books.

If you think it would be appropriate to read a book, please tell me which one!

If you want to read, start from the beginning.

It depends on what type of person you are, as far as books go. Reading all 5 books back to back would be insane. I read 3 and 4 back to back last month and I'm taking a nice long break before book 5.

His writing is very easy to read, but he just adds sooo much filler to everyone's geneology and accomplishments that it makes the books tiresome sometimes.

For me, as I was reading through the first half of book 3 (stuff that was already covered in the HBO series) I found myself skimming quickly through the "filler."

Thats just me though, you may have a different experience and may not mind reading 1000's of pages of stuff that you know what happens.

Is casting news considered a spoiler? I'll just be safe.
Mark Gatiss in season 4? Is this just fantasy? Source: http://insidetv.ew.com/2013/07/17/game-of-thrones-sherlock/

Nah, casting can be posted, but I typically just avoid it in this thread because casting for this show usually comes with spoilers due to them being from the books and I'm concerned with linking people to stuff that could easily lead to spoilers.

They haven't announced whom Mark is playing though. They probably will Friday at the Comic-Con panel (they announced 12 new cast members at last year's panel).

Okay so I'm STILL working my way through rewatching the series, and I came upon the scene where Jon meets Ygritte. The guy that Jon had to kill to earn the wildlings trust asks Ygritte why Mance came to the mountains. She doesn't answer. Did we ever get an answer for that? I didn't even notice he assumed they were there for a reason. Don't they just live in that area? The line was: "Why come to the mountains? What's in the frost fangs your king could want?"
