So, what do you want to see in the new The Legend of Zelda (GC) game?

Somewhat continued discussion from the prior topic on "ClassicGAF."

I'd like to see:

-Multiple towns (there were technically about 4-6 in OoT, I'd like to see 10 in this one)
-More than just enemies on the overworld
-More than just 6 dungeons (10 like OoT would be fine).
-The ability to ride your horse virtually anywhere
-New types of puzzles, different than what we've seen in the last couple Zelda games (pushing blocks, shooting things with arrows)
-New weapons and gadgets
-Added techniques to the swordplay if possible
-A large overworld, larger than Hyrule field of Ocarina of Time

Not all of it needs to happen, but this would be what I'd have in it for my perfect Zelda (or near perfect- I'd also like the graphics to be cel-shaded with the new artstyle.. then it'd be perfect).

Good music. Wind Waker sucked outside of a couple of pieces.

Everything else I want is pretty much guaranteed with a Zelda game. Oh I'd like new puzzles too, but I'm not worried about that as we've been told Miyamoto asked Aonuma to concentrate on that amongst other things.

Not just good music... don't reuse themes from other games when they really shouldn't be. I still can't understand why the Rito didn't get their own theme in WW considering how important they were. Instead they were stuck with music straight out of OoT.

I'd love if the music was orchestrated, but I don't see that happening for some reason.

A new storyline where, I no longer save the Princess and fight Ganon. New locals other than Hyrue.

That's more than half the series so far though (with a different story).

8-10 themed dungeons
Giant, dramatic boss battles
A wide variety of enemies with puzzle-like tactics

That's about it -- the rest I'll leave to Nintendo.

....

Anyway, I agree with the fishing game thing. That was awesome.

Of course, the reason it was awesome was that it was an entirely different game they decided not to release so put it into OoT instead, so I don't suppose it's likely to happen again.

A robust and challenging combat engine. 3DZelda is and has always been piss poor easy, especially after they threw in the counter attack shit in Wind Waker. WTF was that about. You kill Ganon or you kill a little deku shit it doesnt matter, they all die the same.

Z-Targeting ruined 3d action gaming, we've all become codependent pussies. I speak truth

Well it all depends what you mean by countless hours, but there were LOTS of hours in WW.

Not really, considering there was only one real big town in the game. A few towns of equal or bigger size with tons of little sidequest would be great.

More cow bell.

Give this man a contract.

Personally, I'd like to see new uses for weapons (like the boomerang in Wind Waker), especially in regard to swordplay. I want to use these tools in epic outdoor environments, and I also want to use them on some tough-as-nails enemies.

One thing I would really like is for them to stop hand holding you to the next dungeon. ALTTP and TWW both marked right on your map where to go next. Make it more difficult like in the original games where we had vague hints rather than in- game spoilers.

Also, bring back the magic cape and items (like the medalleons and staffs in ALTTP), they were cool.

And make the NPC's more normal and less gooff looking.

Dreamfixx

I don't know shit about shit
If there are going to be about 10 dungeons, make them vary in length, please. I really hated going through those long-ass dungeons towards the end. I just wanted to finish the game.

I want a story akin to OoT

No fetch-quests!!!!!

I want many people and activity in the towns

No f**cking sailing

online multiplayer, perhaps some sort of "death-match" mode.
...no.

Targeting is not a problem--the challenge can be increased by clever AI and limiting the weaknesses of enemies. I want a more satisfying battle experince, but not at the cost of a squirely camera system.

As for other stuff--I actually don't have much a problem with the compositions, it's the samples that are problem. Nintendo doesn't have to bring in a full orchestra, but surely they can go beyond Super NES style music creation.

I also would like a more non-linear exploration. The original LOZ is interesting in that dungeons can be completed out of sequence. I'd like to have that kind of experince again. It will probably mean extra focus in balance the dungeons so that they can be completed in multiple ways, but I think that is easier to do than some other requests.

I dont think you've played enough Four Swords buddy, Shadow Battle is likely to be the most fun you'll have sitting in front of a gamecube with 3 other people. Mario Kart AND Super Smash Brothers be DAMNED, and everything else. The level design is stupendous, as is the gameplay

Nice to know you have such high standards. Nothing less than absolute perfection for you, eh Doug?

I take this to mean, combat where positioning and moving is more important than swining first. Remember in the very first zelda when there were the armored guys that you couldn't damage from the front, and then you would walk into a room with like 20 of the guys. clearing the room was like a puzzle in itself.

I agree about the no-MIDI suggestion :)

A 300 peice orchestra redoing the Zelda tunes...now that would be something!

every body wants something different away so what is the use of it...

I just want a NEW NINTENDO CLASSIC to PLAY

I trust you Nintendo! :D

BRING IT!

Didn't we have this topic already at the old board?

Anyway...

-A new gameplay system that's just not a refined version of OoT's. From the (YES, I KNOW IT IS VERY EARLY) trailer it doesn't seem like it, though.

-Challenge.

-Variety.

-GOOD music. Put the fucking Zelda theme somwhere in there. Good sample quality too...although going by the (YES, I KNOW IT IS VERY EARLY) trailer it seems like it's gonna be crappy.

-Lotsa towns.

-NOT a barren overworld. I don't want a hub-like overworld like in OoT either. Something more like Zelda 1 or Zelda 2.

-Teh cel-shading!!!1 :p

What I want:
- Some sailing.
- A cell-shaded dungeon.
- More Ganon.... Wind Waker's Ganon.
- If the ocarina or baton returns, the ability to set a song to a button, like an item.
- Secret songs (or rhthyms) that don't have to do much; just cause some little extra to happen.
- Bring back the Magic Cape.
- Bring back the magic pendants from ALttP.
- More dungeons for less Heart Container Pieces.
- Great fairies that don't look like transvestites.

And since they work for other games:
- Young girls with big bazoombas.
- The ability to hold a different weapon in each hand.

And for good measure:
- A pajama party "pillow fight" starring Zelda, Anju, Creamia, and Tingle... err, Nabooru.

More dungeons like the Water Temple from OOT. I know it sucked but that one damn dungeon kept me occupied for 2 days trying to beat it. High difficulty = more enjoyable in Zelda.

Yes, challenge. I won't bother with the finer details. I'd just really like the game to be remotely difficult this time.

That's all I ask of you, Nintendo! I assume great gameplay and graphics. But I'm concerned they'll still insist on catering to the masses. As if an optional Hard mode from the onset wouldn't be practical.

I know this isn't going to happen but I'd like Link to be more customizable.

For example, you get X amount of experience points for solving a puzzle, defeating a bosses, or helping a NPC. Then you could assign those points to *upgrade* various abilities. Perhaps you could improve range/accuracy/damage with the boomerang or arrows, or add another hit to your sword combo, or increase the effects of magic. I stress upgrade, meaning I don't think you should be able to learn new abilities. You should still have to find them, along with hearts, bigger wallets, etc.

I wouldn't mind if they sold magic, equipment, and weapons at stores either. One complaint I've always had about Zelda was that the rupees were pretty worthless outside a few sidequests.

-Bring back Lynels, those things would kickass in 3d.

-Let link throw his sword again at full health (Enemy only attack of course, don't want to make the boomerang and bow obsolete now do we?)

-More weird Lttp style music (I think it would fit well with this more mature Zelda)

-Bring back those teleport pots! (Best new dungeon feature ever, man do these come in handy!)

-Speed Boots, or let the player get some kinda magic horse shoes to make Epona faster later in the game. (I hated that slow ass-smack system.)

-Like people said, more towns, I want the game to feel like a full real world, like Zelda II did.

-A better item equip system. Instead of always having to go in the main menu, they should just make where you can tap the button to actually use the item, but if you want something else, hold it down and press another button for a quick snap menu to pop up.

-Full, well done voice acting (except for Link)

No thank you very much, one of the main things I love about Zelda is how the characters express themselves with one distinct noise or gesture. It gives all the characters in the game their own unique Mr. Bean-like quality, I love that. I love the cool sounds those npcs make, like the boat salesman's "Thank Yuuuuuu", or the Bass player from MM's "Aaahhhhh?", or the two old brothers from Wind Waker's hilarious grunts, and how could I forgot the best of all, Pawn Shop Guy's "Hiyeeeeeee", I can't imagine giving up that for regular voice acting.

Celda should of had voice. If you disagree, your opinion is wrong.

More dungeons.
Battles dungeons where you can actually die.
Finding the dungeous should not be so linear.
New weapons. Deku stick could become a Bo
Experience. Nothing major, learn new moves for new weapons, stablize your aim, etc.
Dark Story.
A lead character, other than Link or Zelda, dying.

I think this is what I'm looking forward to the most: a 3D Zelda sans-HUB. Where the overworld is sprawling decentralized and random. This is the only reason the 2D Zeldas have trumped the 3D iterations in terms of exploration... it's certainly not because of the atmosphere.

Gimme summa dat, and then sprinkle on some fulfilling sidequests; fuck that Wind Waker Goron merchant bullshit. I'm talkin' take-me-all-week-to-find-the-light-at-the-end-of-this-tunnel-Bigoron-Sword-style sidequest.

Celda did have voice. Just no dialogue. If dialogue is what you were trying to say, then your opinion is wrong. The voice acting in FFX was shit. And this is Square-Enix we're talking about. Nintendo isn't going to blow the budget on vocal talent. If you think otherwise, then you are in complete denial.

Shame about Square, though. They managed to get some big names for TSW (Buscemi and others). Now it seems their reputation is either shot, or they just can't afford to make those kinds of investments anymore. We'll see if they actually start lining up decent NA talent for the localization of Advent Children.

It already has both of these to a certain extent.

What I would like to see is a more fleshed out/involved fighting system.

In some ways zelda already has a soul calibur-esque fighting system (most moves are direction + attack). They could institute more than one attack button, or special items could take on varied attacks. Adding a highlow element (or rather re-adding as ZeldaII already featured it) could bring some much needed depth to fighting.
