Asphalt 8 |OT| of Burnout done right in your pocket

I just got done playing this for over an hour. I'm loving this new engine. It feels a lot better when you drive and the drifting reminds me of Ridge Racer.

This does remind me of something that's been niggling me lately:

Is there any way to - legitimately - get older Gameloft titles onto my hardware? I'm a collector, and I'm very interested in the history and evolution of games, so I've got a notable desire to play earlier games in the series - but all too often, the options aren't there. I look on the Play store; where's Modern Combat 1? Where are Asphalts prior to 6? Where's N.O.V.A 1 HD?

I'm aware they're a bit ropey (to say the least!), but they're still of minor historical interest, and that matters to me. Is preservation of older titles a significant problem for mobile, as companies constantly push the newest content?

Is it possible for you to get hold of an iOS device? iPod Touch? Most older Gameloft stuff is available in the App Store. Nova 1 still there, Modern Combat 1 still there, Asphalt 4 (the first iOS one) still there.

Downloading Asphalt 8 now!! Let's Go!!

For the OP: iTunes Download link https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/asphalt-8-airborne/id610391947?mt=8

Woke up and the first thing I did was check the app store, lol.

Game is great, it's a much bigger leap then say 4 to 5 to 6 to 7, this game has a lot of small changes which all add up to a much better feel, the car's have a much better sence of physics going on (like said in their developer video) and the speed is dialed down enough to still feel fast but not driving jet cars everywhere.

One of the best changes to me is the track design, they all have multiple routes and are huge, much better.

Awesome game, kills my iphone 5 battery though.

skipped 7, and will probably buy this. Should look great on HTC One/Nexus 7. Gameloft seems like they should be capable of implementing Google Cloud Save into their games. That would be incredible.

7 was a good game, it took what worked well from 6 and improved it, but since 8 is out now you might as well wait until 7 has a free sale again if you wanted to try it, so 7 is a good replacement for that.

Also on iPhone 5's, asphalt 6 will run in 480x320 mode because it was never updated to know about the iphone 5, aka it's retina on older devices but on the 5 it thinks you are playing on a 3gs.

Played the first course Nevada and it seems okay.

I'm running it on an iPhone 5 and the frame rate could still be a little better but it's not too bad.

Nice to have licensed music playing while you race. I had some good old Kasabian thumping in the background.

5 performance could be better but when i'm not using airplay it seems like a stable 30 to me, hopefully GT academy 2 is 60 though.

Will be nice to see how well this game runs with the new iphone and ipad.

I think I'd peg the framerate as below 30fps on an iPhone 5. I would have thought that the iPhone 5 was powerful enough to have a constant 30fps for this type of game.

Two races in, Nevada & Tokyo and I managed first places in both races. It's gently easing me in.

Looks terrific on my now ancient iPad 2.

Engine is much better this time. Better handling, better physics.

For 0.99, it's a crazy steal. Not sure about IAP yet, but Asphalt 7 was fine and that was 0.99 too, so I'm not worried.

I want to try the android version on my ouya, going to be a pain because my brothers tablet broke last week and needs to be repaired, so no way to transfer the files over.

*edit* Tested the game on my ipod touch 4g, a lot of the effects are removed especially all the specular and bump map stuff, but that is given since it's on slower hardware. The frame rate is a little worse then on my 5 and now and again the game will do some stuttering or loading, the game is playable but a lot of it's visual flair is gone.

About the microtransactions, what's in the car packs? And what's going to be included in the season 2 pass?

It seems that the car packs are all the cars for that tier, just saves you earning in-game currency for them.

The pass unlocks are just early access to that set of races, I think you could unlock tiers early in asphalt 7 also.

framerate is not great... been thinking that for most recent gameloft games... you'd think they would be good on iphone 5...

game looks gorgeous though, and the multiple paths is fun... i do feel like some paths aren't the best though... you are 1st for most of the race... then at the final stretch you are in 5th... what?

Guys, honestly, is this worth buying if I have 6 and 7 already? I liked 7 a lot and bought 6 as a result (and because it may become unavailable at some point, Gameloft does that :/) and they're more or less the same.

8 is a much bigger jump then 5 to 6 to 7, but if you are on an older device the unique extra effects will not be there and might make the game look a little worse then 7.

How do I put this, the racing in 8 is more dynamic, feels less stiff and the tracks work a lot better for multiplayer.

Oh well. It's only $13 MXN :p I also second that'd it'd be nice being able to still have 5 on Android. Why would Gameloft not want that money? I don't get why they remove them.

It's kind of crazy how much better this looks on my iPhone 5 than it does on my The New iPad. It's almost like a generational leap in visuals.

shame the framerate goes to the shitter at times.

make sure to hit all the ramps while drifting to do the flat spin, which pretty much fully refuels your boost.

Is it just me, or is money gained from winning races kinda low? 370z cost 50k and i make like 700 per race :/

I'm interested in seeing this game run on a windows 8 tablet now, if it can hit 60fps on the pro, mmmmm.

Anyone know how much space this will take up on a GS4?

Stupid 9gb internal memory...

1.4GB installed I believe, on iOS that is no idea if android select downloads files depending on device.

iPad 3. And it's not that the game looks terrible on it--it just looks significantly better on iPhone 5 in a way I wasn't quite expecting.

Does it run at retina resolution? I would go try it but TBH I can't be arsed to game on my iPad 3 any more, most games run worse.

AirPlay on a tv works really well and looks like something you could play on a ps3 or 360.

No, it looks to be sub-retina on my The New iPad.

I'm really impressed with the track design in this thing. All the shortcuts makes this feel like San Francisco Rush.

Why can't I run this?
A7 ran fine. I have a brand new Xperia Tablet Z.

Most likely due to how the google play store works, if your device is not on the list it's flat out classed as incompatible even if it has the grunt and power to run it perfectly.

You may have to download the pack from the store on another device.

Meh. I guess I'll have to play it on my S3. I'm hoping the devs add more support.

Such an awkward thing for Android users to have to go through.

Yeah, it's weird. My phone is compatible with Asphalt 7 and 8, but not 6 which I had to buy from my 2011 Sony Tablet S.

Anyone interested in me streaming some online races on twitch? been itching to play again all day and my stream earlier felt alright, airplay is behaving well today.

*edit* twitch is acting up, will stream tomorrow

Also downloaded on my HTC One and I am surprised at how good it looks. Really really fun arcade racer. They have the gameplay pretty much perfected by now.

is it just me or does the game have an incredibly unstable framerate, even on iphone 5?

It could just be due to im on ios 7 beta... but yeah, its like gameloft never bothered testing these games :/

This game is pretty great, definitely an upgrade over the previous three games :p Is Gameloft suddenly not a shovelware factory?

Also I'm pleasantly surprised to see this running on my Xperia P!
