The Wonderful 101 |OT| Diplomacy has failed

How about the framerate besides that boss???

Any major issues or is it usually very good???

Game seems pretty constant 60FPS everywhere else, might be a few drops here or there but it's hardly noticeable.

I find myself debating on this and pikmin. For those that have played both which would u recommend?

Hmmmm, i've finished Pikmin 3 and have got TW101.

If you're in the mood for the more satisfying experience then go for Pikmin 3.
If you're in the mood for the more exhilarating experience then go for TW101.

I say get both if you can as they're both the freshest and fun experiences i've had gaming in a while.

Has anyone here got passed operation 5-B? (Stage 5 part 2)

http://i.minus.com/jiUw7C7372DG3.JPG

Here's an image of where I am, basically nothing is happening and i'm pretty much just stuck on this platform. I've tried every morph ability and even tried to create a ladder on the wall but nothing works, also tried gliding off the edge but I just keep falling to my death.

If people are unsure where this part is on that stage, it's right after the scene where
the space police (lol) women saves you from an attack and then Wonder Blue tells her to get lost

I'm also sure the part before this glitched as well as the quick time event for the boss took a while to trigger, anyone know if i'm just missing something or if i'm going to have to reset the level to get passed this bug :(

EDIT: Ignore all of this, for some bizarre reason it just didn't cross my mind to try and climb the wall with Wonder White

I know it isn't a bug, it just feels unpolished, but maybe that's just personal preference.

Really? I just felt like it was there to reward you for paying attention and learning to read where the cutscenes are headed so you can start your input prior to the prompt. One of those things that makes me love the game even more, personally.

The first boss question:
am I supposed to just fight him forever, dodging his fire beam and punch, or does it actually end with some trick sometime? Wtf lol

Edit: nevermind, I was dumb..

Try Wonder White. It's not glitched lol.

LOL I was just coming back here to edit my post, I hadn't actually clocked that it was a climbable wall by using Wonder White. I was just pressing the wonderful rising input and enemies suddenly spawned across on the wall, then it kicked in to use Wonder White to try and climb the wall... man am i an idiot xD

You know other games use such stuff just once and then never come back at you for such stuff. Tw101 however always wants you to remember all your abilities.

Seems that way. Especially for secrets.

101 might be the first PG game with a treasure hunt worth a damn.

(Still just gonna use a guide tho)

Hmmm, the problem was for what ever reason I just didn't assume that wall was climbable. Every other wall before with how the level design was laid out it was just natural instincts to change to Wonder White and climb the wall, something about how that area was laid out just didn't click with me

Anyone know how new game+ works in this game? Is it the same as Bayonetta?

easy = normal
normal = hard

I actually haven't found it that hard on normal. It is obviously hard to get good ranks but to actually get through the game it doesn't seem that hard so far (4 hours in and i have yet to die)

So my first impressions were not good, now I have spent some time with the game I will give an update:

-I love the combat system, its deep, I feel I have only scratched the surface of what is possible, it makes me want to immediately retry another level upon completion rather than progress into the story (are there leaderboards in this game? Would be a criminal omission if there aren't any)

-The touchscreen controls do kinda suck, its not just that the touchscreen is a tad unresponsive at times, but inputting on the touchscreen after holding the gamepad normally, just feels a chore, having to move you hand to the touchscreen away from the buttons, holding the gamepad with your left hand with your hand over the left thumb stick also doesn't feel nice, using the stick is so much better, especially when you quickly want to draw a sword, hit x then move to this group of enemies, draw a sword hit x etc etc, its just using the thumb stick to draw the unite hand I find pretty hard

-This game feels very old school, in that it doesn't hold hands or give you prompts as to what to do next, I have read fellow posts about this, I think it is a failing that what to do isn't obvious, I don't want the game to hold my hand, nor do I want skyward levels of tuition and guidance, but cues could be subtle, expect to scratch your head at least a few times

-The normal difficulty is too difficult I feel for me for an initial playthrough, often though, I feel that it's not the game is too difficult, its just that I don't understand what to do, or cannot follow what the hell is going on, that first boss fight left me feeling bemused once I had finally defeated him, I'm sure on subsequent playthroughs things will just click more and more

-The music is fine, but I stand by what I said, the opening music to the opening stage is TERRIBLE

-The graphics are pretty awesome, I like the art style and I can't think of anything else that really apes this games aesthetic

-The isometric viewpoint: hmmmm or should I say the fixed isometric viewpoint, I haven't played a fixed isometric game since.... I dunno Captain Quazar on the 3do, I often find it to be a bit of a hindrance, buildings blocking your view don't always go invisible when they should, and that secrety area on the first proper level, hmmmmm

-There are other unrefined elements and quirks but they aren't game breaking, just a tad annoying, the areas where you end up inside the gamepad so to speak are a bit janky

Overall I am thoroughly enjoying it, I haven't really played a game quite like it ever, it's like some bastard child of Viewtiful Joe, 90s saturday morning cartoons, Pikmin, DmC with a sprinkle of old school arcade action, it feels fresh, exceptionally kinetic and quite visceral at times, it does however have a few gaping flaws, its core gameplay is refined, but the excution is not.

8/10

Am probably opening myself up to ridicule publising this but heres my first five frustating minutes with it, like sex, don't expect your first time to be very good but it get betters with practice and perserverance.

Man, I'm a slow learner, got plastic in the demo area. Took me a while to find out turbo won't help much dodging fast attacks. And I can't detect them fast enough. Will retry until I get better before continuing. Boo at the people blaming the game for own mistakes.

The 4th boss was kinda meh. I also need some help on the koopas. The data file says you can grab them at their tail.. joke on mario or really possible? Takes ages to take them down. (normal)

I noticed the hooked tail and assumed you could grab them with the whip, but I can't get it to work, maybe you can only grab them when you break their shell or something.

Also does the third boss (wanna?) have the same voice actor as the 1st boss from viewtiful joe (the bat thing)

My attempts at turtle tail nabbing also proved fruitless, tried the fist and whip to no avail.

Oh and has anyone found a faster way to deal with the big spiky robots? the process of pulling off each spiky area with the whip seems too long, as if i'm missing a way to speed up the process.

The exact same thing happened to me...I didn't think of it either

I think the bigger the whip, the stronger your attacks and thus the faster the spiky armor falls off. I saw a video where a guy used a HUGE whip and broke it like two armor grabs.

Also, you can straight up knock them out of their ball attack before they get rolling if you just keep attacking them, use multi-unit whip morphs for even more damage if you have to.

And for a final note for today, more people have to buy this game! >:-( I checked German Amazon twice and it even didn't break top 100 on games! And it's sinking. I really hope for some good word of mouth.

You know more than I do without even owning the game yet, I wont even need to present you with a lengthy post when i'm done with this one.

Well i'll give these a shot when they next show up.

They need to lay on their back stunned, then you're able to throw them with the whip.

also useful information, mostly I just make a giant hammer and even that takes a bit of time.

I'm going to buy it anyway when I get a Wii U but how's the game? From what I watched and read it seems pretty decent.

It's wonderful.

God I'm only an hour in and I already love the shit out of this game and how much love and care was put into it. It's one of a kind. I have a feeling that by the end of it, it's easily going to hold up as one of the best experiences of the year. Kamiya really did good with this one.

so...how hard is W101 compared to other recent PG games...let's say compared to Bayonetta on normal or MGRising on hard (1st playthrough).

From the most recent Iwata Asks:

Yamagami That's right. We've also prepared a really hard mode that should probably be called 'A challenge from Kamiya.' How hard is it? Probably only Kamiya-san and the super debuggers from Mario Club are able to beat it.

Inaba No, Kamiya can't do it.

Matsushita
It was so challenging, I asked Kamiya-san to help us out with the debugging process, but he said he couldn't do it.

Everyone (laughs)

I just beat Wonderful 101!
I won't spoil anything of course, but the game reminds me a lot of Kid Icarus: Uprising... Just when you think you're nearing the end, a lot more is coming.
I really consider this game a must have Wii U title, and I don't even consider myself so good at this game. The story, the gameplay, the graphics, the characters. Its one of the only games on Wii U I've played that's made me feel the Wii U is next gen.

While playing the game, I kept recalling about how this game was nearly an all star nintendo game, and you know, I can totally imagine it being a nintendo game and at times I really wish it was, however, at the same time, I'm really glad they went for the Wonderful 100, they all have unique personalities and the way they all clash is brilliant.

All I can say, is this is getting me really hyped towards Platinum's future work on Wii U (AKA Bayonetta 2 :O), which I'm sure will wow yet again.

For anyone unsure about getting Wonderful 101, imo, just get it! I very nearly held off getting it, but I'm so glad I went for it. I really consider it the best Wii U game at the moment. All I can say is at times, I found it really tough, sometimes brutal, but in the end, I think you should feel rewarded for all the work you put into getting to the end.

Overall it's not too bad though, on the other Amazons:

* UK - Top 150 in the PC & Videogames category (includes non-PC hardware and accessories)

* Japan - Top 100 in the Videogames category (includes hardware and accessories)

* France - Top 50 in the PC & Videogames category (includes non-PC hardware and accessories)

Hopefully the good player impressions will lead to nice numbers when it releases here in North America a million years from now.

Sigh my Wii U keeps getting disc read errors =/ gonna have to send it in for repairs.

Game didn't save after I beat Prince whatever and had to redo the battles =/

It depends what you consider hard. To get the pure platinums on normal you will have a problem. To get to the end of the game normal seems to me to be pretty easy. I have yet to die, but have only been getting silver/gold medals. I found Bayonetta harder on first normal playthrough

I am only 4ish hours in though

Just finished the chapter 5 boss, and wow, I can't believe kamiya did that. I mean, I should have known something like that would happen, but it still surprised me.
