Dunno if this means anything but "Siliconera reached out to Nintendo to ask whether this is the version of the game they intend to publish in the west, or whether they will be releasing the original Bravely Default instead. The publisher declined to comment."

Yeah.

It means we won't be getting it. :)

It's not so much awful as it is overly transparent

At least they're being honest

"Hey guys we don't want to use our resources to make these games which aren't really all that profitable compared to our exploitative mobile games, so why don't you shoulder some of the cost? It could be worse -- we could just use your money to make more mobile games!"

Would be really disappointing if the NA localization isn't this version. We'd never get it if it isn't, getting the original BD released has been an excruciating wait.

You must be running some kind of scenario in your head where Nintendo is the lazy party?
Whoever is taking the lead in bringing this over needs to make sure we are getting the best version possible.

We've already waited so long. To be denied the most up to date version would be ludicrous.

The original game has ONE save slot. >_<
As I recall it even had some problems with download codes you can use for exclusive equipment, but if you used the code once, if you tried to start a new game the code wouldn't work anymore.

As soon as I read the thread title I was almost excited enough to book tickets to TGS, but now I've seen what it's about, eh. It's still the best Square game I've played in years, but I can't imagine the enhancements they've mentioned so far being good enough to convince me to buy this new version. Maybe if
chapter 5 onwards
was more interesting...

This reminds me of the situation when the US was waiting for Persona 3 and FES was announced in Japan.

If this isn't the version used for the localization I'll be buttfurious.

Really though, is there any reason they wouldn't?

if they began localization work on the original and then the developers started working on this.

The only way we'll get this is if these were changes that were made for the english version, and they're just back translating this to Japan

This is an expansion + re-release of Bravely Default. Not a sequel. Presumably the subtitle suggests that they're selling this to fund the sequel? Lol. Hopefully this is the version used for the US/EU release.

Absurd. Bravely Default sold well enough to generate a sequel regardless. If that is really what they are doing here, thats some shameless shit.

The game sold well. Beyond even their expectations IIRC, and they ended up making it available digitally and apologizing for the stock issues. Now you are begging the people that already supported you to give you MORE money in order to justify a sequel? Yuck Fou.... Seriously.....

I believe the sequel is going along well already, and this is not a Capcom test.

3000 yen (almost the price of Pokemon X/Y!) for a DLC that only adds marginal content, some of which should have been patched for free (save slots and difficulty setting), no thank you, SE.

This seems like the sort of situation where a game's western released includes a bunch of improvements the developer had time to work on while localizing it, but then they couldn't bear to let the Japanese audience miss out on any of it so they release the western version as a new improved japanese version, and while they're doing that they probably add even more extra little bits they had time for so it turns out even marginally better than the second version. Except maybe they're doing that this time with a bit more foresight and preemptively announcing it. Surely we must be getting SOME improvements if it's taken this long to be localized.

So, it's likely this is the version that is getting localized for next year then I'm guessing?

SE: thank you for buying the game, we will now announce the sequel for mobile.

I can still see the title, needs more scores and reviews.

Count me in the "please be the localized version" group.

Will gladly take ANY version, but new story and more save slots are always good =3

I am a Resident Evil fan who had a Wii .... I can't take anymore "thanks for buying Resident 4, here is two rail shooters and two lazy gamecube ports" =P

Always be interested in this game.

is it feasible in Japanese or use some overcomplicated archaic rpg dialogs?

I haven't played the game, but having watched a few minutes worth of cutscenes from this video, it seems like the vocab is not different from your average FF game if you've played any in Japanese. If you're like me and you've learned ~80% of your Japanese from video games, then it doesn't look like it'll be particularly hard. Plus, it looks like there's a fair amount of voiced lines in the game, although that may drop off quickly a la games like Ninokuni.

I'm just still debating if I should get this or DQVII first when I inevitably break down and get a JP 3DS. (Someone please tell me!) :p

Bravely Default is the only reason why I am still holding on to this thing. (
and senran
)

I wish the 3DS had more Square support like the DS did :/

DS had square support? I can only think of like 4 four games

2 KH games
Twewy
and the first game in the bravely default series(forgot the name)

I'm pretty sure Square support came late into the DS lifecycle too

they had

FFXII - Revevant Wings
FFCC: Echoes of Time
FFCC: Rings of Fate
FFIII
FFIV
FF Tactics
FF 4 heroes of light
TWEWY
Chrono
Front Mission

and those KH games

Apart from KH, I own/owned all of those and they make up 90% of my DS library, so it's a huge deal for me.

And Cross Treasure(SE published). And Blood of Bahamut. Crystal Chronicles. FFXII: Revenant Wings. FF Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift. Valkyrie Profile: CotP. Sigma Harmonics.

So on and so forth. Some were Japan only. As well as anything listed above. So yeah lots of Square support.

SE isn't even making most of those games for mobile phones, let alone handhelds. They've scaled back production a ton.

holy shit I missed so many

we'll probably never see something like this again tho since square is starting to favor mobile platforms. Not to mention they probably scaled down production for money reasons

You should check out some of the titles they put out on the DS if you have the time. Tactics A2 and four heroes of light are bretty gud.

and it is sad that they are focusing on mobile than traditional handhelds, but what can we do. Hopefully when the 3DS prints more money in Japan, SE will take advantage of that and release more stuff.
