Currently at over $83k, and according to WayForward's Facebook page the game is 1080p/60fps
We are gonna be in for a treat.
Very nice!
Welp, after drooling over the KS trailer for a few moments, I began to think about their 2D content creation pipeline and wanted to inject some brief speculative conjuncture here, hoping to drum up some info about the software WayForward has tasked for this HD Shantae. We know of other companies or teams that specialize in high resolution 2D visuals and the tools they use. There's George Kamitani & Crew with their propitiatory yet very distant flash pro cousin and the venerable UbiArt framework. But here's the question: What's WayForward using this time around? I remember reading somewhere about their use of ProMotion, but I doubt that's getting much use with this new Shantae title. From these screenshots, can anyone discern what program these two artists are using? With some junior google-fu, I've come to believe that it's a toon boom product, but I'm uncertain.
Another question: Is this raster, frame-by-frame based animation going on here with this HD Shantae? The buttery-smooth, interpolated bone-based animation usually associated with other, more recent 2D titles - Rayman, Dragons Crown - seems to be absent from what I've seen in the trailer. Is this a side-effect of watching a game rendered @ 60FPS but video captured @ 30FPS?
Don't get me wrong, though, everything looks beautiful and I hope this thing gets fully funded and then some.
