Media Create Sales: Week 38, 2013 (Sep 16 - Sep 22)

Zelda never does that well in Japan, and this one isn't even a new title. I'd guess it does 50k - 60k first week at best.

Even that seems a bit optimistic. There is zero hype for it here. Haven't seen a single ad. (Did they even make any TV spots?) I guess there might be 50k hardcore Zelda fans out there. But much like pikmin 3 I think people are overstating its potential.

So, as 3DS moves past the Wii, where is it on the all-time chart?

I posted this in the other thread, but I'll post it again.

Lifetime-to-date:

DS - 32,877,455 as of December 30th, 2012

GB + GBC - 32,430,000

NES + Disk System - 23,790,000

PS2 - 21,831,556 as of January 6th, 2013

PSP - 19,997,659 as of September 22nd, 2013

PS1 - 18,900,000

SNES - 17,170,000

GBA - 15,348,849 as of December 30th, 2007

3DS - 12,752,731 as of September 22nd, 2013

Wii - 12,698,878 as of September 22nd, 2013

PS3 - 9,488,843 as of September 22nd, 2013

Aye, I know. It's still 'only' 10-15% of sales. That said, I'm not up on how big the eShop is, that might well be relatively high.

I meant as a proportion of sales, not as an absolute number. I thought this'd be a title that might be pretty digital-heavy as people would always want it on their 3DS.

Iwata shared once at a stockholder's meeting that digital sales of both Animal Crossing and Tomodachi Collection in Japan were at around 15% each for both, closer to 20% for Animal Crossing. Same 10%-15% number for NSMB2 when it launched the same day on eshop and on retail.

Sounds like Monster Hunter 4 is performing about average to above average for an eshop download.

Maybe its a Japan thing or a Japanese Nintendo customer thing that the Japanese don't seem to buy a lot of titles digitally (right now). I don't know if Sony has shared similar numbers for Japan.

There's an ad:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLtYc6WCF3o&list=PLPh3p_yYrx0AJm7cOnhtH2I1uIUiRAHq2&index=1

But that's about it. The game is on the 15 position on amazon right now. Considering it was released a couple of hours ago, we are looking in a Lego City scenario.

PSP should hit 20 million next week on Media Create. I wonder how long it will take 3DS to reach that figure (and that's assuming it does).

Oh, cold.

Dad why are they beating him?
Because he's the handheld gamers deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So they'll beat him. Because he can take it.

Depends how much it's beating it by. As we saw when the Vita had a decent run, second place means fuck all.
I don't know, PSP was in second place to the DS, and it meant quite a bit- without it we wouldn't have so many threads talking about Vitas at all.

There is no potential. It does okay week one, then maybe like 10k week two, then disappears off the charts. Wii U might pick up a bit the week it releases, but that's it.

You are. 3DS is only behind the DS because it's still more expensive. 2DS and Pokemon will go a long way to help it start catching up some more.

DS sold over 7.5 million in two years row in Japan. 3DS is not going to catch up with it. Market has just changed. Brain Training and Nintendogs audience that made DS so ultra popular have gone elsewhere.

Well behind the most successful handheld console ever, what a shame.
Yes, you are a tad too negative

Well yeah but compared to DS 3DS has zero competition at the moment in deticated gaming market. Was expecting it to be closer but I can see now that the market has just changed too much.

considering the completely different circumstances surrounding today's market compared to what it was during the DS, yeah, you are being very negative

Yeah I can see it now as the whole market has pretty much crashed. As a gamer it's still little depressing.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
Rise Wii U. Rise.

Good sales from 3DS hardware + MH4. Is MH4 still supply constrained or have retailers been able to stock throughout?

I disagree. I think price contributes a lot more to the difference than you're letting on.

Should be interesting to see MH4's 3rd week, should be an indicator of the games legs and how supply constrained it actually was for the second week.

The 3DS itself is a little above my predicted pattern of 250>150>100k hardware weeks. Impressive.

Yay for Wii U I guess...

And it'll still be getting curb-stomped by the 3DS, so the gif will still fit.

Leave them exactly as they are. It still works.

You can't even handle a single Vita beaten Gif? Think of all the Microsoft fans during last May/June, and what they went through.

A remake on a dead system surely doesn't help. For every upcoming Wii U title we must lower expectations to zero and start from there. I have a very bad feeling for 3D World. NSMBU bundle will lower even more its sales.

Came Center DX 3 limited edition will be 50k sets.

Probably 2.5 years

3DS won't need 2.5 years for 7 million. At the end of 2014 or start of 2015 it will be there.

Unless the famous Vita recover, because it's a Sony product and Sony always makes it, starts next year.

Dude, I've seen more 'lol Vita' gifs than you can possibly imagine. I just liked the idea of flipping it out for Wii U because that gives Nintendo-only cats a mind-fuck. Hell, replace it with 'the rest of the japanese dedicated gaming industry' if you really want to drive the point home.

As the gag stands, you might as well replace the guy in the middle with a dead horse.

9,954¥ vs 19,980¥ yo.

Call me when I can buy a VitaTV for 10k yen, need nothing else and play straight out of the box

O wait, I can't.

You need a controller and a memory card to make that thing work. In the end, it's barely less expensive than a full fledged vita.

I feel like I'm missing something in this Wii U / Vita "debate" (as big of a debate as two dead and irrelevant systems can have).

What exactly are the Wii U games coming out before the end of the year people are talking about. It's just Mario, Taiko and Donkey Kong right?

You don't need a memory card, it has onboard flash. If all you're interested in is the media functions, most TV's will let you use the TV remote. If you do want to play games, just use the PS3 controller you have laying around or buy one on the cheap from a used store.

There are 9.5M PS3 owners who need nothing else if the buy physical games.

VitaTV includes 1GB for saves

3DS is 15000Y

DS lite was 16800Y.

Price is not an issue.

Wii Fit and Wii Sports Club as well. The debate doesn't really exist, it's just fans trying to feel better about the death of their idols.

- 3DS is just unbeatable. Once Pokémon hits it's going to be so brutal, pretty much like no other platform matters.

- Vita TV and especially the new Vita will indeed boost sales. It happens even with new colors of the same system.

- I'm hoping WiiU can make a small comeback with the new software until Mario Kart gets released next year. Please get GCN numbers at least, WiiU :(

Lol @ Wii U beating Vita this week. MH4 second week is good but I was expecting better. although it IS supply constrained so maybe it keeps the momentum.

Even if Wii U's numbers don't improve, it will hit GCNs numbers (~4m) by the end of 2017.
If things pick up, it might double that? who knows really.

GameCube LTD sales is the best case scenario at this point, so it's unlikely to even do that. Double? Not a chance.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Also, it wasn't mentioned, but i think it was a good start for both Nobunaga and Sangokushi. Those kind of games almost never even chart. To see Nobunaga selling almost 10k is crazy. Sangokushi is not on the same level, but it still is better than nothing.

Today they are going to release Sangoku 12 with power up kit on PS3, Wiiu and Vita. I think even on three consoles, it's not going to pass the 3DS version.

But, well, who cares. It's not like those games were big to begin with.

Also, i think WW will open with 30k sales, which means it's not going to pass 20k. Maybe Wiiu will get closer to 10k, but i don't believe it will get there.

The debut of the last installment in Sangokushi series.

DK isn't coming out in Japan this year.

Wii Sports, Wii Fit, The 3rd Party Games (Watchdogs, Creed, CoD, etc), Sonic, Mario & Sonic, maybe something else...
EDIT: Forgot Mario. Wow.

Don't expect much from WW in Japan. I feel it will do better in the US.

When WW is below 100K next week I hope no one says "What? WW below 100K? Shocking news!! Bomba!!"
No one is expecting 100K.

Between all the Vita bashing (actually, if anyone is good at making Gifs, putting Reggie, Iwata, Miyamoto, etc's faces on the GIF and doing a Wii U version would be cool and useful for future E3s), does anyone actually know why it's falling? It's had games in the top 5 for the past few weeks right? Wii U hasn't had anything and is stagnant/rising. I confuse.
