I don't think they're being smug so much as being knee deep in deny mode. Deny everything until they can think of a good response. Or until after launch.
Publicly acknowledging something like this would be suicide. Especially when a lot of it will be resolved by launch. Right now, everyone is making this into a bigger issue than it actually is. I would bet money that most of the connection, friend invite, and part chat issues will be fixed by launch. Worst case scenario, MS will just last minute push snap and other things back and apologize to customers. Like sure it's bad. But it's never a good idea to say that your finished OS will have issues based on the issues your unfinished OS is having. Will the final OS be buggy? yeah probably. But by launch, you will most likely be able to reliably play games online.

But really, I'm not saying GAF is completely anti-XBOX, but if someone from MS openly admits this stuff, the internet would explode due to the sheer amount of people shitting on them.

Snap isn't a feature on the ps4 anyway right?

Last I checked no. I heard a "rumor" which I wouldn't give much credit to...that they were testing it and it was causing problems but they are looking into adding it in the future.

As far as I'm concerned, the PS4 won't have snap at this time.

This guy at B3D worked at MS in the Xbox division and helped design the Xbox One audio chip before he left, discouraged by the new direction of the division:

Party Chat system on the 360 was heavily integrated into the XMB (The mini-os that ran in the system reservation). It would not be able to translate directly over to the X1 without rewriting it from scratch.
It also had a whole ridiculous matrix of permissions issues. Testing it was a nightmare.

I don't know what the new party chat system is, but I do know the audio team did not have party chat budgeted when I left, and they had almost twice the work already budgeted that they could realistically get done before launch.

I can believe their could be crashes but don't see how psn is suddenly further along than live. equal to but stable maybe but how has it jumped forwards?

How could it be any worse? I can't fathom it.

We've gotten info lately from various sources that Xbox Live (parties, friends, achievements, connectivity), Skype, Snap-In and Smartglass are all borked/unstable/crashing. And that's besides any ResolutionGate stuff.

We're beyond the looking glass. Have been for some time now.

I can think of worse: Red Ring of Death v2. It seems that when it comes to negative Xbone rumours, there's always more and they're always worse.

25 days to go before meltdown!

This is getting seriously insane. Every single time I come back to NeoGAF there's a new thread with breaking news that is bad for either Sony or Microsoft. I feel like I'm in a neverending whirlpool and there's no way to know which way is up or down anymore...

New consoles next month in a head to head battle
Virtually identical setups (which leads to massive nitpicking)
$100 difference
we haven't had a new XB or PS console in years
social media's first big console launch

seems like a perfect storm.

Just spin. Be zen. :p

It's hard to want to get any systems at this point. Which is why I've been saying: if you haven't got a Wii U yet, get that instead of PS4 or Xbox One. It's safer right now :p

There's been bad news for Sony?

Yes. Of course. There was a DriveClub delay, there was news that several features won't be ready for launch like the suspend feature in the other topic, there needs to be a firmware for the Bluetooth stuff and as far as we know there are other issues that haven't been clarified which the Sony insiders keep saying will be fixed with time but of course that could mean anything.

Just ask yourself how much of its legit. No one who posts on here played either. Half of it is speculations and safe bets. It's like reading peoples palms. ;)

I tucked my DS4 in last night and told him everything would be ok. ;)

I haven't seen any negativity re: Sony.

Where are the Sony bad news threads?

But that's not really the same as an OS that sounds completely broken right now.

Of course it could get worse.

In the other thread, I hypothesised from my ass that the info between CBOAT and Bish was that the day 1 patch would brick consoles.

Utter crap with no genuine base or source, but as a hypothetical scenario? That's worse.

Definitely wait.
Indeed.

Yep. I'm fed up now. Way too much uncertainty for me to figure out what the hell's going on. I'm going to wait a year and see how all of this shakes out.

I didn't say it was "the same." I just said the negative shit is flooding from all corridors right now...

To be fair, it's guaranteed to brick at least a few consoles. I recall even the Wii U first update bricked a console owned by a GAF member.

But that's just the nature of firmware updates.

You forgot about the rumors around PSN not being ready for launch and some of the OS issues that still seem to persist, and the 300mb deal at launch too. Those the PSN one was just in the last megathread, not in its own.

I'm really enjoying the schadenfreude considering how little Microsoft seems to care about games. It's kind of delicious.

Sets the bar for generational transitions. I think we should all enjoy is since there will never be one this dramatic (considering how inept MS have been).

And the consoles don't even launch for another 2 weeks at least! I do think most of these bugs will be fixed for launch; there is no way that MS, after investing several billion dollars into this product, will allow it to launch in the state described in the OP. They'd get every programmer, every temp and intern working 14 hour days if need be.
As for Sony, well I can see it going right to the wire in terms of getting PSN up and running but I'm sure they'll manage. I am half expecting another feature or two to be delayed to ensure it runs in an optimal fashion though.

Penello seems unconcerned, but I'm not sure the tweets make much sense, since we know the Titanfall footage is stock:

Licensing issues with who? Haha. MS, you own the UI. If there are ads for other companies, scrub them, do a demo, and shut people up. Or do nothing and allow the rumors to continue and kill your pre-orders. Christ, Albert.
