If their contracts with the advert companies prevent it then yes it absolutely does make it so they cannot edit it. Do you know their contract with their partner companies? Do you work in microsofts or their partners legal departments? im guessing no since you arent an insider which means you have no clue what their contract terms are which means you absolutely cannot draw a black and white conclusion

You can't just say since he doesn't know, and anything is possible.

In the entertainment industry, we have licenses and rights clearances for legal departments. Either you blur/remove/distort any association with the legal ip, if you don't have clearance to use it. Same as trailers, for feature films, if we aren't clear on a product, we remove it or blur it, then legal approves its depiction, or lack of it. We are talking Mercedes, Ford, Netflix, HBO, Coca Cola, Google, Apple, everyone abides by this, and their products.

You're making up a really specific sort of scenario, where content publishers are forcing Microsoft to not show anything, or distort their products (As they are done daily in film,tv,everything), it would be a very specific scenario, specifically for the Xbone.

Based on years of legal and rights clearances, dare I say decades, its very safe to assume that unless its a first of its kind... that every single IP/Advertising/Everyone will not allow microsoft to show off their consoles GUI, its bullshit spin, as its been since the announcement of the console. I can measure the level of 180's from MS, double speak, and back pedaling, to factor that into their Credit/Trust/Honor rating. You have to do the same when coming to an intellectual conclusion, or you're being bias to not allow their specific track record in regards to the Xbone.

Gaikai, snapping feature, Driveclub delayed ... both systems would have been better launching next year.

Gaikai was never ever meant to be released with the PS4. It's a separate service on it's own.
Snapping was never a PS4 feature, suspend/resume was.
Driveclub is a game being developed on it's own, nothing to do with PS4.

I'm sorry, but I'm having a hard time believing the suggestion this console will launch without a working OS. I'm not denying that there may be serious issues with it today, but the narrative here is that these problems cannot be fixed. I can't accept that and I have a PS4 on pre-order.

MS OS WILL be fixed make no mistake. Hell 99% of all major issues may in fact be worked out by launch. I doubt it based on what we've heard but MS will get their act together. Question is how long that will take?

I'm so glad I kept my PS4 preorder. Even if these problems get sorted out later, why would I pay more to beta test a system. So much smoke. scary.

Not gonna lie. All the craziness surrounding Xbone and PS4 is making me think of canceling my PS4 pre-order and just getting a new GPU for my rig. My heart can't take too much more bad news. MS might have fucked up, but damn if it doesn't make me feel sorry for everyone just doing their jobs getting swept up in the bad decisions from up top.

There is hardly any craziness around the PS4.

You made all kinds of crazy exaggerations in this post.

Nobody suggested this console will launch without a working OS. They're suggesting that certain aspects of the OS are causing games to crash.

Nobody made a "narrative" that these problems (which are numerous) "cannot be fixed." Several of the problems do appear to be deeper than what can be fixed within a month though.

This delay talk is crazy. Can we stop? Even if the box is a brick, its coming out the 22nd.

I actually agree 100%. It would be a massive financial and logistic effort at this point to delay the XBONE. AT MINIMUM MS would have to essentially recall units (as they are probably less than a week away from shipment if not already), and eat return shipping on what was the estimate? 2-3M units? Not to mention having essentially received $0 return on tens of millions invested in advertising, supply chain logistics, manufacturing, etc.

I honestly can't see how MS could delay xbone right now without it essentially killing the division. Plain and simple. (and when I mean delaying, I don't mean a few days or weeks but a reasonable time it would take to provide fixes or workarounds to all of the issues that have surfaced in tweets and leaks)

So I fell asleep on the sofa... and woke up to this thread.

What exactly is going on? What is this article going up soon?

Someone catch me up.

Impossible to delay now. They've got the marketing in full swing, boxes should be arriving VERY shortly, if they haven't, to store warehouses. Contracts with all their partners for cross-promotion, and a delay would be just as bad as a shitty launch.

We are less than a month out at this point. It'd be a nightmare for them if they delayed it at all. I don't think Microsoft wants to give up the holiday bucks so they pushed release back as far as they could in the hopes of having just enough time to be ready for launch. They may have miscalculated. If everything our insiders have said is #truthfact, then Redmond is knee-deep in crunch time.

That's what I figured. :/

For the sake of all of the designers/techs working their asses off to get this thing ready for 11/22, I hope they succeed. Jobs will likely be lost if they don't, sadly.

Oh man, this is gonna' blow the fuck up in the next 8 hours isn't it? Not sure I will get much sleep tonight but screw it, this is where it gets legitimately interesting.

Unfortunately I'm looking forward to seeing how all this pans out more than I am actually playing any next gen games. It could be another turning point for the next decade.

All this bottleneck stuff sounds like excuses from the devs. Run dem games between 900 and 720 and everything will be fine.

the issues at hand in these threads have very little, if anything, to do with game resolution. they are OS level problems that MS needs to crunch on and fix.

They got a little under 4 weeks.

Wrong! Try again

We knew Gaikai wasn't coming this year and suspend/resume won't be there Day 1 not UI snapping. Driveclub is unfortunate but I respect their decision, cause the latest build looks insane.

The OS will work, but what is hinted is that some features could be unstable at release. No one can understand the full severity of these bugs or what amount of man-hours would be needed to resolve them. Only Microsoft knows. What scares us is that some of those unstable features seem to be critical ones (Online/Matchmaking specially), but perhaps the silver lining could be that those would be the priority ones to get resolved.

Do the sensible thing and buy both in 2015. Past launches should be evidence enough that buying at launch is a fools errand and I say this as someone who has been buying consoles at launch going all the way back to the MegaDrive/Game Gear.

It's just not worth the stress and hassle any more.

Hahaha there is a contract that says a company cannot *NOT* show a logo to show off their product? Yeah Hulu is going to sue Microsoft because they did not have their logo appear when they made a 10 min video on YouTube of the OS.

So what you are saying is:

A) MS cannot show off the OS because logos and ads appear, companies will be pissed
B) MS cannot show off the OS while blurring or removing ads, companies will be pissed

Funny how they could show it off during all sorts of conferences, interviews and such.

There are actual insiders supporting the theory that the OS simply is not up to speed, they dont matter either do they? Of course not. The OS is simply not ready to be shown, its not more complicated than that, do not bother with your "You just dont understand argggh", its simply not ready to be shown and that is it. Period.

Ive wasted enough of my time even replying to your absolute nonsense.

I work in advertising and marketing and you are right. If the logos have been seen in interviews, on demo booths at E3 etc, then there is no reason why they cant show them on a live demo of the ui.

The only thing i can think of that they might not be able to do is say show how the hulu app works unless hulu have given permission as it might not be ready to show or features might be missing etc.

Showing logos is not a valid reason not to show the ui. The logos can be seen on stills and marketing material so its just BS

In a system that is being touted as the epitome of balance, I don't believe dem secret lazy devs for a second.

These threads just keep coming. Never thought stuff like this that were touted by microsoft as a key features of the X1 at its first unveiling would end up being such a mess.
Well that is if those rumors are true and that seems to be the case since no one is defusing these damaging rumors. It just keeps coming and getting worse.

We are three weeks from launch. Microsoft has a plethora of software engineers at their disposals. I have little doubt that these issues will be resolved by launch otherwise you have a half-baked product that cannot do its function; play games.

No matter what the Xbox One will be sold out into early 2014 in most territories.

I feel like they could realistically launch with buggy software and incomplete features and be largely forgiven as long as they get it to work by the end of January. That's a lot of time to fix things.

Not sure if this was posted yet, despite being a day old, I found nothing in a search. Just more on the next-gen OSes and Smartglass being a wreck.

I'm not sure how a bunch of bad XBO news makes you want to cancel your PS4.

To be fair, their job is to make sure that any information they relay is correct.

People on twitter with no obligation can say anything and be wrong. "Gaming journalist" is wrong and it causes meaningful harm, it's a lawsuit or a blacklisting.

To be fair, "journos" have access to any hardware/software before consumers. They never talk, and if/when "everything is waaaaaaaah".
This is not about INVESTIGATION, just honesty.

Tell it like it is.

lol, there is no 'craziness surrounding' the PS4, at least not as far as I've seen/heard.

" A trademark always runs the risk that it loses its distinctive character, which could mean that the trademark at some point may be annulled. Be careful not to alter a competitor’s trademark, especially if the trademark is a logo. Use of an altered version of the competitor’s trademark may ‘blur’ the mark’s product identification and, therefore, may constitute trademark dilution25 and infringement."

And removing the whole trademark? Do you understand what i am saying here? Not just blur, but removing the whole logo. So there is only a green emtpy box where it used to say "Hulu" or "Mountain Dew"?

Surely a company that specializes in software and operating system can do that on a whim and make their OS video and not piss off anyone.

Thus the issue for no videos is not trademarks.

You say this, but if PS4's OS gets any changes or fixes of something that doesn't work quite as they intended then it's in no way different than getting an Xbox one on launch and a certain feature not working as intended and fixed later. By how you want to define beta testing a console(you're not and it's a silly thing to say), you're doing the same thing with the ps4 preorder you chose to hold on to.
