Good news, my not getting a PS4 is not set in stone either.
If Sony had DLNA support on PS4, I'd be buying it ASAP and turning my PS3 off and putting it in a closet someplace. Without DLNA on PS4, I'm going to hold off until sometime next year on getting a PS4 to replace my PS3 for my media computer.
As I mentioned in another thread, I've got about a terabyte of DVD rips (I own and possess all of the physical discs tyvm) and 60 gigs of legal MP3s, and being able to access that media on the PS3 is a crucial function of the device for me. I'd love to be able to use a new swanky PS4 interface to access all of that stuff, but if I have to keep the PS3 around, I'll just stick with it for now.
I'm not going to be the guy to tell my 4 year old daughter that her favorite movies have gone away.
I see Krauthammer spilled the beans to you. However, it is odd that they took such a firm stance in the FAQ.
Fair enough. I'll keep my ear to the ground. If I were to make an educated guess... they probably don't want to promise anything until they can nail down exactly when they can implement the correct firmware for it.
Mmm yeah. I wouldn't worry too much. Some of these overreactions are going to look hilarious in the near future.

"A bit of a hassle" is a bit of an understatement. Ain't nobody going to do that.
not even Sony support can answer this question...Do cross gen games have the same trophy lists? If i were to buy AC4 now on ps3 then upgrade it, would the trophies carry over the ps4 version...idk why absolutely nobody can answer this...seems pretty simple

I'm not excusing Sony's behavior here. I think it's asinine not to have this stuff at launch. However Sony's support on PS3 was kind of shitty for this. My Boxee Box and Plex on Roku do a much much much better job at those than the PS3 did. You may want to look into those options if you can.

Anyone that uses names instead of numbers as unique keys for database items has to be an amateur.
About a week ago it was announced that the trophies don't migrate. They are separate.
I'm more worried about local MP3 support than DNLA.
Hm, I've heard of Plex. I do have a Roku 3, and I was given to understand that there was some Plex-y way that you could do a DLNA-like thing with it.
I'll investigate, thanks.

Honestly, if support is coming later the should have clarified the possibility. Social media has taken the story and ran with it.

I know what you mean, I rip every BD movie I buy to a home server and throw the disc in a closet, so it's a huge deal to me as well. I was going to keep my PS3 anyway, but I was definitely not happy about the situation.
They couldn't say "maybe" or "in a future update" as people would just get pissed with with every OS update that it missed.
Well now people believe (maybe falsely) that is has no chance of ever coming. They couldn't say "maybe" or "in a future update" as people would just get pissed with with every OS update that it missed.
Cause they want to make some cash selling licensed BT headsets. Can anyone explain why a basic bluetooth headset won't work on PS4? That one is probably the most mind-boggling to me.

Wait so you can't even plug an external hard drive in with your movies on it and watch from that? Or is that still possible and only streaming via DLNA is out?
Will users be able to connect an external hard drive to expand storage on PS4?
No, this feature is not supported on PS4.

Bad either way i guess.

I didn't think that you could license (internally) BT devices? And that they are all supposed to work with each other, as with the standard?

Yeah... they did that with in-game XMB iirc and people moaned every time it wasn't there.
