Pokemon X and Y SPOILER Discussion Thread

I'm fighting Lysander in his lab thing in Geosenge Town. This is quite a dark storyline here... I didn't really spoil myself with the legendary info and what Team Flare was planning, so this is kind of a surprise how crazy this dude is.

Fun fact: Once you enter Lysandre's lab, the entire game is in 3D until you exit.

Team Flare GRUNTS had a 3D model but none of the Gym Leaders, Elite Four, or even the Champion had one? What's up with that?

Personally, I prefer the high res 2D art. It's more stylized and I've always been a fan of Sugimori. I was disappointed with the rival character used a 3D model instead of one of Ken's drawings. The Flare grunts looked good because of how wildly they're designed.

Finally finished off getting all the TMs this morning. I think that I'm FINALLY starting to wind down my obsessive playing of the game, now. I just need some of the important battle/breeding items left from the Maison, and I guess the handful of plates that I'm missing and some of the clothes from the expensive boutique, but I'm honestly at the point where most of what I need to do is breed competitive Pokemon, at least until the transfer comes so I can complete my Pokedex.

Also, screw all those people on the GTS finding as many ways as possible to put up a Xerneas with impossible requirements. The event Pokemon names are now spamming those pages, too. Bleh.

From the Smogon Facebook page detailing new items:
Weakness Policy - An item to be held by a Pokémon. Attack and Sp. Atk sharply increase if the holder is hit with a move it's weak to.

My god, tanks just levelled up.

I put 50 hours into this game in five days before I stopped on Friday. I felt, and possibly still feel, burnt out. I think I was overwhelmed with how easy it is to perfect IVs, reason be is that so many people will probably dedicate their time to doing it - despite it being such a long process - that I won't be able to keep up.

I was looking forward to actually battling online, training anything and everything, but with the prospect of perfect IVs so easily obtainable, I feel left out. I put the game down and asked myself whether it was worth putting so much time into each one of my teammates to perfect their stats for online play.

What also does not help is the lackluster postgame. If multiplayer and the metagame are so daunting, then there should be a longer single player, but there is not.

I really don't know what to do. On one hand, the game has distracted me from my responsibilities, but I had so much fun doing it at the time. On the other hand, I feel burnt out. Shit...

It is definitely the quickest I have ever picked up a pokemon game and put it down after beating it. I am struggling to find a reason to continue. I will literally be outclassed by the very last thing there is to do, and that is play the metagame after ultimately training to 100. Damn it.

There's also Assault Vest, which buffs the Pokemon's SDef and Def by 50% but restricts their moves to only damaging moves. Essentially Eviolite-lite.

Yeah, that's good for sweepers with no defense - play your cards right, and they can survive more than two hits.

But I definitely thing I'm going to try out a Weakness Policy Chesnaught. Hoo boy.

I'd honestly say don't worry about perfect IVs if you don't want to, and you're willing to put up with all the other stuff involved with competitive battling. Honestly, outside of Speed perfect vs. non-perfect IVs are probably rarely any kind of deciding factor anyway. If you have access to Friend Safari Dittos, just use those to get perfect Speed and then 1 or 2 other 31s depending on the type you're raising (which again, shouldn't be bad AT ALL with the changes to the breeding system+the awesome FS Dittos), and you'll pretty much be fine, I'd imagine.

Yeah,I noticed that! Throughout the whole game I've been playing with the slider to see if it's in 3d. I personally don't like the 3d because it makes my eyes hurt, so I don't ever use it. The most I've ever used it has been the cut scene where Xerneas awakens.
And then on the first move i caught him with a freakin quick ball on the first jiggle in a critical capture

Woah! Just caught a freaking shiny Metang! YES! I was fighting it by throwing crappy balls at it, and it was getting intense. I let my supplies get low in the friend safari, and then BAM, shiny pokemon with a crazy catch rate. I only had like 10 ultra balls left, and any attack I used would've risked killing it if it was a crit. So I was just chucking balls at it. After probably about 50 it FINALLY got caught in a Great Ball. I was getting so freaking worried by the end.

I am NEVER going in the friend safari without access to both false swipe and thunder wave, plus a ton of ultra balls, ever again. Jesus.

Also, Excadrill is surprisingly small. That was what I was originally going to post, but then suddenly a freaking shiny Metang appeared. Shiny Metang!

Dusk balls are twice as effective as ultra balls at night. Metang has a catch rate on par with legendary pokemon. (I'm sending a severed leg to whoever made that decision.)
Gratz on getting one of the best shinies though.

So where do you find your rival in Kiloude City?

Damn, my Aegislash got completely wrecked by a JP player's Talonflame running Taunt/Protect/Flare Blitz/???. Makes me wonder if Head Smash is worth running on it, but I quite like Shadow Sneak for grabbing quick kills after setting up with Swords Dance :/

I've tried searching the various Pokemon threads and Google, and I've yet to find an answer to this.

Is Red in this game? I'm fairly certain I just came across him online. There was a player listed as "RED" online among my friends, but I've been able to confirm it was no one on my actual 3DS friends list. This character gave me a star, challenged me to a battle, then gave me an O-Power.

I don't really have another explanation for what just happened.

Agreed, Lysandre's heart was in the right place but he went the wrong way of doing it.

I like him as a head villain after Cyrus.

I seem to remember Groudon/Kyogre was more involved in the story.

Not really they were thrown right at the end and you suddenly had to catch them because Team Aqua/Manga goofed up.

Dialga and Palkia were done better.

That annoyed me too apart from the Champion as I don't like her.

I am betting they will be in Z version.

The other legendary trio was...the Kanto legendary birds? Wasn't Mewtwo and the starters enough for Gen I throwbacks?

I agree with you on this, at times it felt like that this was a gen 1 game with the amount of gen 1 throwback.

It's just a person naming themselves as Red, since Red isn't in the game.

EDIT: Never mind. There must have been some sort of miscommunication on my 3DS, because after some more investigation I can confirm it actually is someone on my friends list. Now I just look like a dolt.

Gah, what the hell, stupid Battle Maison. Four goddamn times in a row a Scolipede's rock slide caused my ENTIRE TRIPLE BATTLE TEAM to flinch. While a Heliolisk blasted off Thunders and Focus Blasts without a single miss! Gah! There's cheating, and then there's whatever the hell this is. The game just does NOT want me to beat freaking normal triple Battle Maison for some reason.
Ever since freaking Stadium 1 Gamefreak have confused RNG hax for difficulty. I don't find it fun at all.

There was the chain of events in the seafloor chasm and Sootopolis City. Emerald expanded on it further with the hunt for Rayquaza. Either way, they were much more involved than Xerneas/Yeveltal.

Yeah, and we don't hear about the other legendary (the one in the other version) at all. Weird, as we saw them fighting in almost ALL trailers/commercials that they did for the games.

The more I play this thing, the more confident I am that there will be a Z and not an x2 y2. So much shit is very very close to being goddang perfect that the game needs refinement more than a sequel.

Yeah, guys need more customization options, and more HAIRS!
I have ponytail, and would LOVE to give my character the same. :(

HEAVY CRAZY RANDOM SPECULATION TIME!
We will get an A version and Z version. One (A) will be a prequel, and the other (Z) will be a sequel.
LOL not even remotely close to what will happens. xD But damn I would love to play with young Sycamore and Lysandre as my rivals. O-o

Did anyone use a Vivillon late-game? I have one that I've raised but at level 50 (neutral nature, max EVs in Spe and SpA) it feels like he just doesn't have the stats to compete. :<

I believe the name that shows up on the bottom is the pokemon character name, not the 3DS name. So your name on the bottom of the screen won't match all your friends' usernames necessarily.

...I've been playing too much Friend Safari. I just threw an Ultra Ball in the three star restaurant, costing me a balm mushroom. Whoops!

Speaking of restaurants, the requirements imply you make it go at that turn right, and not after or before?

Not really. iirc Protect and Detect can also change stances.

Also, simply PICKING the command changes stances. It's shown that even a sleeping Aegislash can change stances!

That's what activate means. Resolve implies that the move was successful.
Although I suppose Yugioh terminology isn't the most common way of describing things.

EDIT: I wanted to mention the weakness policy over in the OT, but I forgot. It seems we already have a discussion going over here.
I think it will best be combined with Aegislash IMO as it often takes SE attacks to the face. I do see the merit of the leftovers build but I'm already pairing it with Bulletproof Chesnaught w/ leftovers.

Where can you find Weakness Policy anyway? Is it a Battle Maison prize?

Someone is manipulating the code, or whatever, and is able to force encounters with the three event legendaries we know exist. I thought I'd post this here. I'll post more as they continue to get leaked.

I'm not worrying about perfect IVs and I'm still competitive (when I feel like it). Being honest, the only important IV is speed because you need to be confident that you can outspeed something. Everything else is just good team building.

Woah, that thing looks neat. Can he/she only force the models/animations, or does he/she know the typing as well?

The typings are Rock/Fairy, Fire/Water, and Ghost/Psychic in order of this image:

The dude is also supposedly working on showing us new Mega Evolutions.

And it should go without saying, but since they are "unavailable", anyone who trades you one/has one in their dex either got it from a hacked source, or hacked it on themselves, period.
