I wonder what console the journalists got... retail or debug? I am guessing debug so they can get direct capture...

Even if it is a really low fail rate, this kinda news is chilling so early on.

Yeah, i'd be gutted to have my ps4 brick, but I can't help but harken back to the xbox 360 launch and turning on that jet engine.. It's always a bit of a leap of faith at a launch. I've never had any problems with my Sony consoles, or xbox either. I'm pressing my luck!

Suck to hear your PS4 bricked dude.

My 7th Xbox 360 has been humming along like a champ for the last 2 years. But it was a bumpy ride to get a stable console on that shit, lol.

I'm definitely weary of any software updates. But I consider the risk I take as an early adopter of a console.

Okay, the guy on Twitch basically admitted he pulled the power plug while downloading the game. He has it booting to safe mode, and still won't try and download the fucking patch to a USB to try and fix the problem.

It's basically his only hope and he's ruled it out. Infuriating.

Seriously why won't he at least try this? Also why the hell would he pull the plug in the middle of a download? You don't pull the plug in the middle of a save so what made him think doing this was ok?

He said the PS4 froze so he had to unplug it to turn it off.

He said he doesn't have any USB sticks laying around.

The guy hosting the video is technically incompetent, how on earth does he not have a fucking USB laying around.

A lot of people don't.

Don't put this on him.

I really hope it's software related. Sadly Sony had similar issues with the vita and Xperia Z (mine bricked after 2 days).

Please 1.51 fix this.

No that's not what he said. He pulled the plug after the console went haywire while downloading DCU. Not while it was downloading.

So how exactly did this happen? The guy in the stream says that he was downloading DCUO and then his PS4 froze and it wasn't turning off so he unplugged it.

I'm so scared to download any kind of updates to my PS4 on Friday..I don't even want to put the day one patch on there via USB or via Wifi..

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
There is also a big factor people have to take note of. In 2006 the internet was not as big. Facebook, twitter, reddit or other social media were in their infancy. In 2006 these 4 people would not be able to vent their rage to millions of people. These small cases can become front and centre nowadays where they wouldn't be before.

How old were you in 2006?

Jesus christ you must have been young.

Please stop spreading FUD. He did not pull the cord while downloading. He pulled the cord after the console went into this jacked mode.

Most people who bought consoles on launch day in 2006 were probably very active on the Internet

Depends on where you are living. I got broadband in early 2006. 2mb/s I am now on 200mb/s. I had 1 hour a week on dial up. So my information can be wrong.

You can't say sites like NeoGaf's audience in 2006 compare to what they are now.

So moral of the story is that the guy can't get into safe mode because there's nothing on the screen (in other words even if he got on he can't see anything regardless). He's already tried the different HDMI's, turned off and on console, different TV's, etc.

He's not really reading instructions people are giving because he's kinda freaking out (understandable).

He doesn't have a separate USB laying around so he can't even do the USB download patch trick.

Dude is having a bad day :(

This post gave me cancer.

The good news is...if it's a software issue they'll patch and hope they include dlna with it. The bad news is stay away from 1.50 until we know more.

Much like the 2008 Presidential election, this is the first console launch that is going to be heavily effected by social media and the effects that it has on events like this.

To quote my favorite game...

But in the current, digitized world, trivial information is accumulating every second, preserved in all its triteness. Never fading, always accessible.

We now live in a world where a console getting bricked creates a 30+ thread of panic and concern, even though if someone actually did the math the failure rate would probably fall within acceptable levels.

I'm not doing the early adopter route anymore. The possiblility of spending all that money si itll crap out in a couple of months is the readon why.

Um, why would someone dream of pulling the plug WHILE the console is downloading?

I don't understand this. Consumer electronics in 2013 should be able to withstand a sudden loss of power without completely bricking. What happens if you have a power outage? A pet accidentally knocks the cord out? The worst that should happen is some corrupt data. It's completely unacceptable for a device to become totally unusable due to such a simple and common random mishap.

My friend won a Taco Bell PS4, he swapped out the drive immediately and tried to boot up but it didn't work. He tried putting the original HDD back in but it's the same problem. Called support and they're sending him a box. Obviously, he's shattered. I have no idea if the issue was the HDD swap or what, but I hope I don't have issues with mine on friday.

I was so jealous this morning, but now I feel bad that he's gotta wait even more than I do now.

So I'm guessing because of the internet, most of us shouldn't have to worry? I would be so fucking upset if my PS4 became bricked.

If your new console doesn't work at launch, just call sony and tell them to replace it.
It happens with every thing you buy. That's why they tell you to keep the receipt.

If every consoles stop working after two years for some stupid reason like bad solders you need to be angry about the manufacturer.

I'd rather have my ps4 broken after two hours than two years and it's true for every pieces of electronic I buy.
