Xbox One review embargoes lift Nov 19th (Tuesday 9PM PT/12AM EST)

So far, it looks like;

1. The XB1 does have the the better launch lineup.

2. But not by much at all.

Both PS4 and XB1 seem to have their shining stars and their duds. Typical launch really.

I'm not expecting Forza 5 or Ryse to be good or bad enough to swing the pendulum much.
Stop being reasonable and level-headed.

i fully expect forza to be the differentiating factor.

so far it seems

dr3 is around the level but somewhat better than kz
resogun is better than ki
i expect ryse to be better than knack.

but forza is giong to kill it. also xbox has golf and crimson dragon

MS has the significantly better launch exclusives. Sony needed killzone to match up to forza and driveclub to match up to dr3. I'm getting a ps4 but I think as far as exclusives are concerned its clear MS has won launch easily.

Overall on launch, lets see how the hardware and softwares updates/reliability pan out over the next month or so and how well people can figure out resolution differences in multiplat etc. However MS has the definite upper hand on exclusives so far.

Expect this forza to be the lowest scoring of th series apart from horizons and yet he highest rated on launch

Dat Ryse embargo...
should tell you all you need to know.

could be that, yes. it could be so bad that they know it and try to steal some "nice cover art - buys"by trying to delay the scores as much as possible.

but it could also just be marketing timing. keep the news flowing, you know.

i guess we will know in a few days.

Forza is embargoed too, is that bad??

Ryse will be marmite, you can bet bottom dollar it'll get some 8's and 9's tho.

Launch title curse strikes again.
So far Resogun seems like the highest rated game on next gen platform.
I except Forza to top that tho.

It's really hard for me to imagine Ryse just being ok. It's either going to be amazing or a piece of shit. This Thursday the Ryse legacy comes to a head.

Forza gets it's own full day of hype, Ryse get's buried under the anticipation for the midnight launch. Seems fairly straightforward.

I think (hoping) that since Forza and Ryse have their own review days, that they know the games are good. Kind of like a "pow"-"pow" right before release.

Interesting way of looking at it. I suppose there are many ways to interpret it. I think having 8 games to review, 6 out on one day theres a ton for reviewers to do some were obviously going to be a bit later.

CVG mentioned on twitter they're hoping to do a review of Powerstar Golf but time/resources an issue.

Why are people hyped for that outdated Forza 5. Looks like a 360 port to XB1.

I still expect it to get better reviews than DriveClub (even though DriveClub > Forza 5 in terms of graphics, not to mention the technology difference).

I'd think that Ryse is actually pretty good (but most likely suffers from lack of content, I heard the campaign is pretty short?).

I don't want to steal your hope but that is almost never the case. it is almost always a bad game. It's not about cover art. It's to prevent cancellations of pre-orders and mouth to mouth on the most important days: the first days of a game's launch. That being sad, the rest of the scores look pretty decent for a launch up.

How do you know have you played it?

That the combat is shit but the graphics and story are great? Launch game total.

If the story would be great it would surprise me, but it would at least have something going for it. I expect it to look good, but from the thread of all the facial expressions; i don't think it will ever look that good. At launch you don't have much choice so if it turns out to be not bad at least it might still be worth it to some people. Time will tell.

Surprisingly solid from Killer Instinct, disappointing from Crimson Dragon.

Ryse is going to flop hard, Forza will probably be the strongest title of the new systems.

Have you played Forza 5? I have and it looks beautiful! Anyone who has says the same. Where are you getting your information from? I hope not from angry forum posters depending on compressed Youtube videos lol.

Still more excited about Powerstar Golf than anything else, I just love fun golf games. Well, that and Peggle 2 which I'm absolutely gutted about the delay of.

Looks like both consoles have a pretty mediocre library of exclusive launch titles, which was expected. Luckily, multiplats on both are great, which makes them among the best console launches from a games perspective ever. ACIV, BF4, Lego, NFS, NBA, Madden are all excellent games.

Agree, except that Killzone and Forza 5 are not mediocre. I expect F5 to get a few 9's. We'll see.

I expect Forza 5 to score just as well as other entries in the franchise, why wouldn't it? I'd be disappointed if it didn't rate in the 90s on metacritic.

It has a lot less cars and tracks than the last one. But that didn't stop people from liking GT3.

Knowing Turn 10's release schedule though, why wouldn't you just wait for the sequel?

Both launches on track to be thoroughly mediocre. Sevens everywhere.

Scale is 0-10. Not 7-10. It's launches anyone who didn't think was possible needs to adjust their expectations. I'm not quite sure how a 7 counts as mediocre.
Not to mention forza and ryse yet to be reviewed.

3 reasons

Spa
Bathurst
Open wheel cars

All things we have been asking for with each new iteration

Wrong! Most review sites use a 7-10 scale and rarely give scores of 5 or 6. It's always a disappointment when a big AAA title gets a 7.

Even if its deserved, people here are going to go berserk when the Xbox one hardware inevitably scores higher than the PS4 on Polygon. I'm guessing 8.0 at the very least from them, the OS looks solid and the launch lineup while middling is still better or at the very least larger and more diverse than the PS4s.

Go berserk? Really.
Anyone sensible won't even dignify Polygon with the site click.

I don't know if this is common practice, but I noticed that Best Buy put black electric tape over the Sony logo on the TV that the Xbox One "display" was connected to. Couldn't they just use another brand?

I think people are misinterpreting the use of embargoes in these...

In this case it is most likely to guarantee a steady stream of news/reviews in the final days up until launch.

Why the hate for Polygon ?
A lot of people seem to think they are Microsoft shills, but i've seen xbone games score lower than they did on other websites ??
Is it because of that killzone review ? lol

Probably meant to build up hype or at least keep people aware. Given the kind of scores coming in though I don't think it'd really get me pumped for next gen, but then a low buzz constant awareness may well be more effective for most people while overzealous fans will be overzealous fans.

Honestly, it seems the more heavy pro-MS slant comes from Arthur Gies, I haven't really noticed it with anyone else.

Well, there's Philip Kollar's TLoU review, but that operates under the fallacy that if you don't love the game you MUST be an MS fanboy, ignoring it's the kind of linear narrative driven shooter adventure that many people are sick and tired of seeing. It was just fresh enough for me (combined with renting it) but I can easily see others not feeling the same way. Even for me it was more "this is the best game of its type" than "this is the best game of the year."

I think people are thinking this is the first time an embargo has been used when in reality they been around for a long time.

I agree with u

On Polygon, no.

The "news" and shock would be if Polygon scored the Xbox One lower than the PS4, that would actually raise several eyebrows.

People lost their shit when Polygon a few months ago criticized MS pre E3, something to do with scheduling 1on1 interviews. It was unexpected and unlike them to do that.

Polygon rating the Xbone higher than PS4 is par for the course, expected by literally everyone. They have carved that reputation out for themselves
