Forza Motorsport 5 |OT| Open wheel, tyre squeal, orange peel, dat next-gen feel

I ranked on this in the F1 thread, but seriously the driver models in the open wheel cars are hilariously teeny. Dude can't see shit. All I can think about is dumbass Anakin in his podracer when I see it.

Rumble in the new pad is amazing with this game, never felt feedback like this before from a controller.

Can you elaborate more on the general feel? Purchase a 09 ZR1 and give me an impression about how crazy it is to drive, please? I'll gift you a Toyota MR2.

LOL an MR2. I've only driven a BMW 1 Series M with light mods so far, but with all assists off even it's a bit of a handful if you're not careful. The cars definitely feel a lot heavier.

Oh and my Drivatar has been sent to the Cloud, beware.

I didn't knew that AI cars have now liveries on them during the race. That is great addition.
Are these other people's liveries or are they made by T10 and appliad randomly?

Some impressions after about 2/2.5 hours :

With the exception of fully assisted P1 race at the beginning, I raced with all assists off except clutch.

- The driving feels very different from FM4
- I'm still adjusting to impulse triggers, with ABS off, you really have a tiny amount of trigger pressure before rumble kicks in and wheels lock, feels much less forgiving than FM4
- Direction also feels less assisted with the controller, it's much easier to spin out, again less forgiving
- Spahurst, finally !
- 1962 250 GTO, finally !
- Cars truly are beautiful, dem shaders, love my matte carbon fibre 1M Coupe !
- Forzavista is far from being as complete as Autovista : 1M Coupe and original Corvette both couldn't have their trunk nor their hood opened, the little tours (not the history of the car) don't have any voiceover, at least when the game is setup as French
- With that said, the small amount of content makes no sense, Dan can tell us anything he wants, I will believe it even less than before getting the game. Any post-FM3 car could have been in the game as the models are of great quality and to continue with the 1M and a Corvette, the models look similar to FM4, they just ramped up the shaders quality a lot, got rid of the ugly textured lights on cars, etc
- Photo mode is strictly identical to previous Forza so still no photos above 2 metres for example...
- Speaking of photos, it would be nice to open the FM5 gallery on FM.net...
- I gradually ramped up the Drivatar difficulty, currently two level above the default setting, I haven't encountered any mayhem like in those streams, I'll try harder difficulties tomorrow

Fallen Xbot (cannot continue gaining levels in this class)
hm jeff didnt seem to like it too much

i love the complaining about the drivatar's aggressiveness as he smashes into everything in his path to pass any car he can. complaining about clusterfucks that he has caused.

Lord have mercy did someone here mention 4 gig day one update? Mannn just bought this was really looking forward to popping it in. What is with these day 1 updates being massive. It's crazy each one is bigger than the other.

THE WORDS! They'll drift away without the _!

Agreed. Lack of content is actually kinda annoying with the way the career is laid out. Not a huge amount of options within a class. Multiples of the same car in every race.

Their was a moment in the Gamespot stream when Jeff's drivatar just smashes into them repeatedly. While I was watching the quicklook, I thought it was remarkable how well his drivatar had captured his style of driving.

You can start playing the game after it's downloaded around 10% though so it's not too bad.

You can play the game at 13% completion of the update.

I bought the game all digital, and I'm actually into it quicker than I expected at, as you say, 13%. My connection is crap so it came as a nice surprise to literally notify me two minutes after I came back from the shop with beers that I could play.

However, everything I choose requires more downloading. I had to download my first car and now I'm downloading something to race it on. Not a bad solution per se, but I literally raced the intro race, which was better than expected, it gave me a nice taste of the impulse triggers and now I'm all excited, but now I'm downloading what I hope is the whole of the Bernese Alps and not just one ribbon, because it's taking it's time.

From what I've seen I'm stoked. It's pure class. The graphics are nice, I tried to catch Dan's eye as I raced past his 2D cardboard cutout, but he acted all stiff an aloof. At least I think he did; it's hard to tell at that speed.

The woman announcer is a little, I don't know...she sounds like she's from an insurance advert. I would have preferred someone with a calm, sci-fi voice, if that makes sense.

The menu music is very relaxing - strings and piano. You could have it on in the background for hours. I could probably knock off another beer before this track downloads, but at this rate I'll be comatose before I've finished four races.

(edit) The message says "Installing content: You are free to continue playing while the installation completes. (A) CONTINUE" So I pressed A to continue playing but it didn't give me another option, so I pressed A again to go back to the track and the installation had lost 10% of it's progress from where it was. So I won't be pressing A again during a track download.

I think I'll have that beer.

There isn't much that Jeff likes.

I asked him about this when I met him at PAX Prime.

He said that he's just lost patience with games that aren't GREAT. There are so many bad/mediocre games, that he's stopped giving a shit unless they truly offer something new, or do what they're trying to do, really well.

I can completely see where he's coming from, given his job.

Has anyone seen any pictures or footage of the airport test track yet? Seems odd we're an hour into the American launch and still haven't seen anything official on it's existence...

Anyone not getting there VIP bonus 1250 tokens? I have the message from Turn10 saying Congratulations etc and it mentions it in the message, but I don't have it.

A friend does. : /

Just played a couple of races, the physic engine is amazing.
Also the new difficulty levels for drivatars are really great, you get +65% for "invincible", really challening.

Help

When you guys put the disc in for the first time what happens?

On the home screen I have an icon that says install disc that does nothing but beep when you press it.

And I have a notification that says installation has started but no progress bar.

Is this normal?

If you go into My Games & Apps from the home screen it should be in there with a completion percentage.

It happens. I was a games journo for over ten years. It burns you out, you play a lot of shit and games become a chore. It was better in the second half of my career because I had a managerial role and played less and specialized in favourite genres. Been out of the business since 2011 and am enjoying games much more again and it's great to enjoy these two console launches, my first stress free ones since 1999. But hey, it was hardly working down a coal mine.

I put the disc in, it asked me if I wanted to download the 6Gb update, I said yes. Then it started installing the game immediately and after 5min and 15% I got the message that it was ready to play.

So ridiculous, the fact that that's the actual LaFerrari car pack... I mean, it's not even a logical selection of returning cars! Who would want the Alfa? Damn shame that FM will likely never return to that wonderful medley of quirky cars known as the FM4 DLC sets...

On a brighter note, apparently non-branded engine swaps have opened the door for cross-manufacturer swaps. Including, supposedly, an option to put a 4-Rotor in an S15...

that top gear track is so much fun now with all the stuff lying, flying around. it's not just silly, it also blocks some shortcuts on the track, good stuff.

Still no bonus VIP 1250 tokens. Wanna set up some drift cars in multiplayer dammit!

Some of the track detail is really bad in this game. Cars look and sound amazing though. That's the main thing I suppose.

Was waiting for some pics Grom.

Don't be shy and work some of your magic :)

Also, let other people know how you've extracted them, with someone mentioning earlier that they struggled to find them, the more the better as I've got a little wait on my hands.

Whilst I'm here. Sal, what were these little features that you kept teasing?

You know, it's enough just to buy the game for the fucking sounds!!
I'm dying here.
Loving it!

Going through the tunnels is an auditory experience..

I'm having so many issues, :(

I don't know If I was doing to much stuff at once, but my game install was not working correctly. Nothing was working as far as installing anything, digital and physical. Totally unplugged everything and started with KI since it's a smaller down load and it seems to be working. Forza is next wish me luck :/

This is amazing. Not just the billboard aspect. It's maybe 6 different, disinterested people photographed once and pasted dozens of times trackside. They just did a quick color change in Photoshop. These are photos of people at a mall's food court waiting for their pizza. The have no business being trackside at Forza. It's a bizarre and amazing creation.

Surely there was a cubicle of programmers and artists blushing when they finalized these people into the game. And eventually one person got the giggles because of the absurdity of it and, as we all know, the giggles are contagious so that cubicle became full of the sound of teary-eyed "I can't breathe! Ah it hurts!" type of laughter. "Wow we're really doing this! hahahaha oowww man!"

Finally they catch their breathes, shrug their shoulders, wipe their eyes.
"Ah man months and months and here's how we end it. I'll never forget this crunch time. Fun times. Send it to the boss and make it gold. Time for some sleep!"
If I didn't know any better, I'd swear that was Dan in the lower-right of that cutout photo.

Dang, those mock-ups for the rain look hot. Time to crack out GT5 when I get home.
Or PGR4. Seriously, best weather I've experienced in a driving game.
