Zelda: A Link Between Worlds |OT| All in all you're just another Link in the wall

The only thing easier in this game is that you can attack diagonally, the sword doesn't have a stupid shit hitbox, and Moldorm isn't the most infuriating piece of shit in the known universe.
So, essentially, it isn't broken.
.

Moldorm is more annoying in this one thanks to the terrible zoomed in camera.

I don't think we'll see ALBW's item system return in Zelda U. There is zero plot development in this game between the third dungeon and the final boss. It works for a handheld game with a tiny overworld and 20 minute dungeons, but for consoles I'd like something grander in scope.

Moldorm is easier here than in LTTP, unless you count the rematch in Ganon's Tower where you can kill him in like, two hits.

However, the SPOILERS
rematch with him in Lorule Castle is...well, fuck me.

Finished the game yesterday, great ride! Only wish the dungeons were a bit longer and that hard mode was available from the start.

Trying to 100% it now, is there any place I can pump money into now that I have bought everything into Lavio's shop? Found a fairy cave in Lorule where I can give rupees but I've only been getting cured back to full life/fairy spawns.

Looking forward to the 50 floors tower challenge, that should be fun!

About that fairy cave,
keep feeding that gold digger money until she gives you a bottle. I think it takes like... 2000 rupees or so? I dunno.

I literally fought LttP Moldorm two days ago. It's not even close, not by a longshot.

LttP Moldorm:
Tiny stage, literally unpredictable pattern, any hit other than just the red dot at the tail sends you flying back 20 feet, likely off the edge. Falling off the stage results in the fight COMPLETELY RESETTING. The only way to even try not to fall of the stage is to hold a spin attack and wait for his tail to hopefully go by. It's an incredibly luck based fight.

LBW's Moldorm:
Much more predictable, less random, hitting non-weak point spot results in getting bounced back like 2 squares. Falling off the stage does NOT reset his health (this is the huge big one), only negative is that it opens you to potentially getting hit by the bouncing spikes.

I literally almost ripped by Classic controller in half with LttP's Moldorm. LBW's Moldorm was fucking enjoyable, even without comparing it to LttP's.

EDIT: The fairy takes like 3000 rupees. I went in with 2600 rupees, gave her every one I could, and had to go back with another 400 or so for her to give it to me.

They may not bring back the rental system, but you can be sure as hell they won't be returning to the structure established in OOT - Skyward Sword. As Aonuma said in the Jan Nintendo Direct:

It's pretty damn obvious that Zelda Wii U is following the same gameplay traits as Link Between Worlds. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they brought back the rental system.

Yeah, rental system or not, Aonuma has already made it clear that one quality in Zelda U is the ability to tackle (most, if not all) dungeons in any order. Coincidentally, it's a trait we see here in ALBW, made possible by the rental shop.

As far as I can make out, A Link Between Worlds was essentially testing the waters to see if the shake up works. Obviously, it does.

Zelda U will be a continuation of everything that Link Between Worlds introduced (no handholding, freedom to explore, non-linear progression, reduced amount of collectables/stamina meter for weapons, etc). Bet on it.

The "play by yourself" comment in the slide above is referring to playing the game without a shitty companion like Fi or Navi. I'm stunned that Aonuma has finally realised what we all want. It's amazing.

I wasn't really talking about the difficulty, though I found the second Moldorm to be easier in this one. The first Moldorm fight is a struggle against the camera, not the boss. I hate how zoomed in it is.

Sounds good to me! ALBW has rekindled my love for this series like none other. The last few games had reduced my Zelda passion to mere embers, but ALBW has stoked the fire to heights not seen since Majora's Mask. The game is that good, and I'm not even close to finished with it yet.

You do know that the camera is controlled with the Dpad right? I never had an issue with the camera during the Moldorm fight anyway... Besides even given that it's still 1000x less annoying than LttP.

Not an asshole.
It's incredible how little hand-holding is in this game after playing Skyward Sword and Minish Cap back to back. ALBW is so fucking well made and trusts you as a player.

I just beat the game with 76 maiamais... I don't really see any reason to get the rest because the final boss was easy with the red armor and a potion.

Regarding the end of the game...

Why did I not see that twist with Ravio coming? He is a pink rabbit for goodness sake! Exactly the same form Link took when entering the Dark World in A Link to the Past!

You have to hold the dpad in, hardly a solution for a boss fight where movement is important. I don't know, ALTTP's Moldorm has never given me the sort of frustration you are describing. He's an easy boss in both games.

More thoughts on that:
I actually didn't click the rabbit thing together until someone here pointed it out. Zelda sure has a way of making people feel like retards with the simple shit haha.

And I didn't have an issue with the camera. I have, however, in all my playthroughs of LttP, absolutely hated the Moldor fight, almost entirely due to his health resetting from what is essentially the mechanic he is designed around.
There's also just holding your shield up. :/

Not only that, but:

The bracelet. He knew about Yuga's powers, and obviously had the bracelet either given to him by Yuga or Hilda to exploit said powers. He gave it to Link immediately.

Playing hero mode makes the hints pretty obvious. The things I dismissed as quirks or jokes first time through make more sense.

Get all 100 Maiamais because you're a badass.

Alternatively, start a Hero Mode playthrough and aim for all 100 there -- I suspect the upgrades will be far more essential in a mode where all enemies do 4X damage.

Or do what I'm doing, a no buy Hero run, and get all 100 because why the hell not.

Some thoughts concerning Aonuma and the Majora's Mask hints he was dropping before hand:

WTF there's nothing but gigantic cock teasing. Ooooo you can go against the wall in Link's house so it looks like you have the mask on. Don't toy with my heart, PAL. :( I was hoping for at least SOME acknowledgement.

Yep...I moved here a couple months ago and have been waiting for it to come out. I'm living vicariously through this thread.
Ah, well, I'm sure your patience will be good karma -- Japan seems to get all the good stuff the other 99% of the time!

ALBW will be worth the wait, I assure you. :)

Is Koji Takahashi the secret sauce behind this game? He was design lead on Animal Crossing too, which was also incredibly high quality.

I think "play by yourself" is referring to Zelda being a single player game. They want to introduce multiplayer to the main series.

Other than that, I think you're right. I just hope that if they do bring back the rental system, it's designed in a way that doesn't sacrifice story or dungeon complexity like it does here.

The light focus on story in this game is obviously totally intentional.

Absolutely no reason why Zelda U can't have a deep and involving story with an open plan item system. And as a console game, the dungeons are naturally going to be far, far bigger and more complex.

Just got my 3rd pendent going to the master sword soon.

LOVING THE GAME omg soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo goooood :D

Man every time I think I'm stuck going back to rule 1 for this same.

*When in doubt merge to the wall for the solution*

I enjoy the rental system, but I hope they don't use it to quite the same extent in Zelda U. Instead of being able to do every dungeon at the beginning, I'd rather it be in three sets of three dungeons. Do 1-3 in any order, then 4-6, then 7-9. My biggest problem with ALBW despite enjoying it immensly so far is that I know exactly what item I'll need during the entirety of a dungeon. If my idea were to be implemented, there would be potentially for more varied dungeons by the end of the game.

So, I have given it some thought, and although I am not quite finished yet.. I have decided that this game is the first really, really good Zelda since Ocarina of Time.

My top 3 Zeldas will be Link's Awakening, Ocarina of Time and A Link between worlds. I cant decide which of them is best, they are all different enough.

I find the plot in pretty much every Zelda game I've played to be a complete bore, with maybe the exception of Majora's Mask, which I unfortunately haven't finished. In ALBW, (very earIy spoilers regarding Zelda lore)
I said "thank god" to myself when they relegated the 3 Goddesses and Sacred realm exposition crap to quick descriptions on paintings in the Hyrule castle.
If they managed to make a new 3D Zelda with an engaging and deep story, I would be delightfully surprised. Zelda does a good job of telling story in visuals though, as well as through side character dialogue at times, but always I've felt like the overarching plot is just so uninteresting.

I don't mind the rent system at all.

I just hope for Zelda U they don't tell me where I need to go. Infact, I hope the map is blank and I have to draw the whole thing in as I go...like NES Zelda.

I realize that I care a lot about the mystery of each dungeon. But I'm not sure if dungeon items are the mystery I crave for since they have been very predictable for the past few console games. (The Spinner and the Ball and Chain were the last surprises I've ever felt with item discover in the dungeons)

I don't like how the map is clear as day in ALBW and I don't like how each dungeon is mapped with markings showing which item I need.

I just want to figure more stuff out on my own, if possible.
