OH SHIT. I love this series.

Seriously, the moment Sony shows off a next gen JRPG, I'm probably going to cave for a PS4. Especially now that I have a Vita.

I always thought Arc the Lad was an action RPG, but it looks like some kind of tactical RPG. Never got a chance to play it. Interesting how Sony would renew the trademark. If they were to make a new Arc The Lad game, I wonder what enhancements they would make to the series.

EDIT: Looks like I confused this game with Alundra. Interesting. I've heard of Arc The Lad but didn't know anything about its gameplay until just now.

That's Atlus' game tho.....i think

Nope you are right it was an atlus developed title. Though that game was a bit rough around the edges. Had it back in the days.

Yeah it was turn based strategy RPG. Bad thing with the original was you could screw yourself by saving into an unbeatable battle killing your data right there lol. Same thing could happen with Jeanne d'Arc on the PSP JP version. ATL was fairly challenging for the time and didnt allow you to roflstomp the enemies without a fight is what I remember.

I need Wild Arms 6 for PS3/PS4 in my life.

The WA creator left Media.Vision though. That shouldn't stop them from making a new one, but...
Really? That's a shame. Did he go somewhere else? Or did he stop making games?

It'd be cool if they could contract the work to him as a director, and have Japan Studio develop it with him. I doubt they're required to have Media.Vision make the games, though it's worked out that way.

It makes sense actually that Sony would try to back a JRPG, in an effort to entice the Japanese audience to buy PS4. Console gaming is up in the air at this point in Japan. It seems like most people think it's going to shrink significantly compared to this gen.

This is one of those series' that just completely missed me.

What's it about?

Gameplay footage. Folks may say it did not age well, but back then good times to be had. I liked the characters too.

Am unsure if the US has it on PSN since I rarely check the US store.

Answer the damn monkey.

But seriously, I'm in the same boat. Should I be hyped?

If you are not a fan of the series Id have to say no. Just because it will all be totally new to you if they have refs back to the characters / story from previous games. That and we really dont know much else besides that there is a report of the trademark being registered. Suppose you could be hyped about the fact that it looks like Sony is going back into the JRPG biz anyways.

you can't put a price on sparks
Are we at the point with Sony where average games become good because of nostalgia? I'd take Legend of Dragoon or Wild Arms or Dark cloud reboots before Arc the Lad. Demons Souls above all

Legend of dragoon would be awesome

Dark cloud would be even better. But level 5 won't make it so it might not be as good as one would hope

So the last few game trademarks that Sony filed we got reveals soon after (destiny of spirits, freedom wars, and a few others if im not mistaken) are there any Japanese game events scheduled soonish?

I doubt they would reveal this at the VGX event....unless its being handeld by a western studio.

Theres still the Jump Festa here in December, but not quite sure on how much new stuff they announce there. Am sure another member who pays more attention to that stuff could answer this though.

Why are you reading my tag instead of the title of my post?
Saw some AtL OG footage. It looks like it uses the same battle system as a lot of the indie games that are going to coming out soon. Maybe I'll jump on this if OllieOllie never comes out.

He started a studio called Witchcraft which mainly made PSP games:

Never in my wildest dreams did I think Sega aquiring Atlus would lead to the possible return of so many franchises

How are the two things related?

frankly if i was sony . I would just renew/buy up some of my old ips just to get the hardcore pumped up again. (but then again that would just be super mean :p )

Based on what, though. A trademark doesn't even necessarily indicate this is a new game. I WANT to get hyped, but I get so depressed if things don't turn out right.

Get depressed now so you can feel better when they do announce something~

Thinking about this alittle more, and the possibilities seem fairly interesting. I remember Sony talking about farming out their IP to indies previously (similar to what happened with Shadow of the beast). Its entirely possible that Sony could allow a western studio take a crack at an IP like this thats been dormant for so long.

Im not sure of which studio could pick it up so I have no guesses there, but if this turns out to be happening its not impossible it could be revealed at the VGX event depending on who is developing it.

I also remember Shahid saying something about the Alundra making a comeback awhile ago, but he would not give any further details on what he ment by that.
