Attention new & prospective Wii U owners who didn't own a Wii...

For Wii games, very few supported it, Zelda: Skyward Sword, Wii Sports Resort and Red Steel 2 being the most prominent games that uses it. Like I said in my other post, Wii U games expect the motion plus. While the regular wiimote might be supported on some games, it will not be usable in others.

Also, IMO wii remote plus >>> wii remote + motion plus, if that's what you had in mind.

the cheap used wiimote was just a pickup so I can actually play Xenoblade this weekend while I figure out what accessories I need to get after which I'll promptly return these used ones by the middle of next week

Last Story vs Pandora's Tower

Which one is better? Xenoblade gets the most love but I'm not dropping crazy amounts of money on one game and I'm not a fan of buying used/gutted copies from Gamestop. I really should've bought it when Nintendo was still selling it on their site. :/

to be fair they aren't gutted/used copies, GameStop commissioned a reprint and just sold the new copies as used

I picked one up today and besides having a stick on it's case it has never been touched, the disc obviously wasn't even pulled from the case so it's in great condition

I paid good money for this Dynex!
The Wii is the best kept secret in the history of Nintendo. There are a stunning number of excellent games (that don't use motion controls, thank gawd), and few ever bothered to check them out. I just got a WiiU today, and I'm pretty excited to see how they look on the thing, seeing as how the video output is so much cleaner.

How ugly is the sticker and can you peel it off easily?

Maybe I should make a stop at GS to see if I can pick one up then.

Yeah, the Wii suffered from terrible (and I mean downright abysmal) draughts throughout its life. It's no wonder the lists are so small.

I didnt suffer from these droughts, also that isnt even half of like the wii
list of good games wth?

I think some Wii owners may not have kept it very long. I owned it for a couple months and thought it was a novelty console so ditched it. Got caught up in the "dude bro" gaming scene but got totally burnt out by the end of the gen. Decided that novelty or not, I'll give the Wii U a chance and also catchup on any Wii games that looked interesting.

Last Story is one of my favorite JRPGs of last gen.

I'm prolly one of the few who heavily prefers LS over Xeno
I wish Nintendo would expand on that game and make a sequel....or at least a Last Story I-2

Pandoras tower was alright

picked up Metroid Prime trilogy.

I am one of those people. I dont like most first party nintendo stuff. But it's ie Wii U, had a lot of games that interested me. Not into most of the big third party games either. I did the same with th ds. skipped it since I preferred psp games and went for a 3ds this time since I love monster hunter.

Irony is that I did the exact same thing with the Wii and the Gamecube. If only Wii U went back two gens, it would be the best value on the market.

Wii has some great Third Party exclusives for adult gamers as well:

I agree, the Wii has some really excellent games and people don't even know. That's why it always saddens me when people say they got burned out by the Wii or that Nintendo disappointed them with the system. Not every game uses waggle controls. I'd argue it might have the best amount of games out of any Nintendo home console so far.

There's a great thread that is all about the hidden gems on the Wii. There are so many interesting titles available for $10-20 used!

Today I picked up Punch Out and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. I can't wait to check them out once my WiiU comes in the mail (after I'm done with SM3DW of course). I have a PS4 and will soon have an Xbox One, but I imagine that thanks to the Wii library the WiiU will be my most-played console for the next 6 months.

How many people that didn't buy the insanely popular Wii went on to buy the extremely unpopular Wii U? You people are rarer than unicorns.

I never bought one. I thought it was pretty ridiculously overpriced for most of its lifetime and by the time the price came down I was too invested in my 360/PC game library to care. If the WiiU weren't backwards compatible, I would have ignored Wii games completely.

Seriously, OP. Backwards compatibility is so great. I have:

Skyward Sword
Galaxy
Wario Land Shake It
Resident Evil 4
Xenoblade Chronicles (Shipping)

Working on getting:
Okami
The Last Story
Pandora's Tower
Sin and Punishment: Star Successor
Muramasa The Demon Blade
Dead Space Extraction

And I'm not even close to being satisfied with my Wii collection. Only sad that I missed out of Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn and probably won't ever be able to get it because it's so expensive.

It was said before but: Sup.

When Nintendo launched the Wii I was taken aback at its poor specs and how PS360 games looked by comparison. Plus in general I'd been burned once when J-RPGs got me into gaming seriously and I got an N64 as a kid, so I was pretty sour on Nintendo as a whole. The entire time the Wii was enjoying that huge level of popularity where NOBODY could find one I was pointing out (with no small amount of salt I'll admit) how that system couldn't last as long as the PS3 or 360--especially with those graphics--and how with the second system they'd basically be fucked because the casual audience was just not going to come back for a second system because that's not how gimmicks work.

With the Wii U, I was seven years older and had basically gotten over my problem with Nintendo (though not those specs). I didn't really give them that much thought but I decided to look at what they had for E3 because why not and I was waiting on Sony's offerings. Smash Bros, 3D World, Mario Kart and (most importantly) X all blew me away. It was at that point I realized Nintendo's Wii U was doing HD graphics and I realized I really had to have one.

So there you go.

Here's a good starting point for any collection:

Here's a great thread that will kill your wallet: Overlooked Wii gems

is it worth getting the wii remote plus? I picked up a pre-owned wiimote from GameStop's BF sale since it was only $10 and got a nunchuck as well

Yes, obviously. If you want to future proof yourself, go Wii Remote Plus only and get rid of regular ass Wiimotes.

TLS. I haven't finished PT yet but TLS is just that good. That doesn't mean PT isn't worth playing. It very much is on the "you should play this" list if only to see how you'd do a proper Castlevania in 3D with cool whip-mechanics. Story is also pretty interesting!

Irony is that I did the exact same thing with the Wii and the Gamecube. If only Wii U went back two gens, it would be the best value on the market.

It technically can do that through homebrew hacks in Wii Mode.

So what you're saying is, you knew what games are available and generally considered worth buying for the Wii, knew you had no interest in most of them, but thought you'd try and induce someone to list them anyway so you could dismiss them? Fair summary?

Before, I was the equivalent of a fanboy who despises Wii because of motion controls.

I am now a proud Wii U owner, and would like to playing Wii games thanks to BC.

This isn't anywhere close to my story, but I thought it was cool so I'm giving you a "yeah!". :D

Indeed, very good library if you actually started to look. Too bad WiiU won't even come close, it really only redeems itself if you didn't have the original Wii.

Wiimotes and Nunchuks are $70 and $30 in Australia, which is such incredible price gouging it puts me off ever bothering. Not to mention the sensor bar extension cable I'd have to find.

The Wii had the only good Prince of Persia game last gen, true story.
I like this post

No seriously, I played so many great games.

Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition
SSX Blur
No More Heroes
Bully Scholarship Edition
Zack & Wiki QFBT
Okami
Boom Blox
Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon
House of the Dead Overkill
Guilty Gear Accent Core XX
Trauma Center New Blood
Dead Space Extraction
Resident Evil Darkside Chronicles
Klonoa
A Boy and His Blob
Silent Hill Shattered Memories
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom
Monster Hunter Tri
Prince of Persia the Forgotten Sands
No More Heroes 2
Goldeneye 007

I kinda liked

Opoona
Tales of Symphonia Dawn of the New World
Red Steel 2
Resident Evil the Umbrella Chronicles
De Blob
Ghost Squad

And well, a great first party selection. As a Europe bloke I played Disaster Day of Crisis and Project Zero II Wii Edition as well, both are pretty rad.

Chocobo's Dungeon and Shiren the Wanderer never get enough love in Wii third party threads.

Also the soundtrack on Chocobo's dungeon is one of the best remix albums you'll ever hear ever. Its a shame that game was ignored.

Sure, go right ahead and ignore the eShop is a thing now. That's where the mid/small scale games will exist from now on. Those don't get pressed on a disc and released by a major publisher for any console anymore.

What kind of gamer didn't have a Wii at all during the 7th Generation, I wonder. That Wii backlog will blow your mind and keep you fed during droughts.
Despite the huge install base of the Wii, most teens and young males / dudebros probably didn't own it. Or else the 3rd party mainstream situation would've been much better.

The Wii had a very unique third party library. It had games that would never be successful at retail on other consoles such as Muramasa, A Boy and His Blob, Trauma Center: New Blood, Batman: Brave and the Bold, Zack & Wiki, Tatsunoko vs Capcom and No More Heroes. The problem is that the list is very limited. The system really did practically die after 2010.

blu

Wants the largest console games publisher to avoid Nintendo's platforms.
I would like to say that Dewy's Adventure sucks but Chocobo's Dungeon and Shiren do not.
How does Dewy's Adventure suck? Mind you, I'm asking from the perspective of somebody with 40+ hours in it.

On a side note, it's funny how each time somebody tries to pull a wii 3rd party list at least a dozen of 3rd party gems get left out. Such was the 'no 3rd party' wii library : )

The Wii has a fairly impressive amount of small-budget 3rd party titles. It's basically where the 'B' budget games ended up last gen...

Last Story vs Pandora's Tower

Last Story is better.

Pandora's Tower is a clever little game, but Last Story is an alternate universe Final Fantasy game. The set pieces are basically Ancient Ruins: The RPG, but it's a fun game with good characters and a well told story.

Xenoblade is on another level, mostly because it's impossibly gigantic

You take that back, PoP08 is a flawed gem.

Gem as in "looked nice and everything else was crap". The platforming was basically QTEs. And the hyped "boss" fights were crap. Prince Of Persia: Forgotten Sands (Wii only) was really the only game worthy the title "Prince Of Persia".

I don't. I emulated Wii games on my PC. I own a Wii U now so I have been considering buying some Wii games plus controllers.

Okay, thanks! I'll see if I can hunt down an acceptable copy of Xenoblade but if not, TLS will be on my radar.

That's probably the weakest list of third-party games that any console that didn't immediately die has ever had... If you own any other gaming system (console, PC, or mobile), its hard to imagine anyone having the time to get to any more than a few of these.
