Good thing I bought many Steam games these past days. My incredibly awesome government decided to increase the dollar tax today (why is that a thing, don't ask me), which means I'll now have to pay more whenever I buy something not in my local currency. Let's hope it's not retroactive, or I'll appear on the news for attempted magnicide.

Sadly I haven't bought all the 3DS games I wanted yet. Oh well, you can't always have it your way I guess.

Test Drive Unlimited 2 is awfully tempting.
I know this title has problems but I enjoyed the first and I'm dying for an open-world driving game on my PC.

I'm going to relax for December while JaseC plays catchup. And on that note I believe I now own every available game that was released on Steam prior to 2013. Proudly not including Black Ops Mac Edition, because I'm not going to support the start of the shitty practice of selling separate Mac & Windows versions of games on Steam.

Don't let pride stop you from doing what you know in your heart is right. Black Ops Mac Edition is entirely innocent. Are you going to punish it for the sins of its fathers? Give it a home, xelios. Give it a home.

I feel like shadow warrior may appeal to me, since I love serious sam...

On the other hand, I am a little bit of a fan of tomb raider. The last tomb raider I played with tomb raider 2... many many many years ago... so I kinda want to try that out again lol...

It is so late I just need a decision.

I just noticed something completely weird with their pricing. It says I can upgrade from civ 5 to civ 5 gold for 5 bucks. This has gods and kings expansion. Or I can buy gods and kings expansion for like 7 bucks... lol

holy shit I've just beaten a king's bounty game

I never thought it was possible

Oh man I would've bought the new king's bounty if it were cheaper. What grind filled fun tho lol

Well that's the most I've spent on a sale in years. Although a bit disapointing there was no community interaction I did make a small dent into the wish list.

Time for just one more final purchase...

The Real Dark Souls (of restaurant sims) begins here!

Finally got Dust: An Elysian Tail and really enjoying it! Love how the interface reminds me of the usual JRPG menus and the smooth animation is really well done.

Doublechecking quickly - sale ends in 7 hours, yes? I should probably pick up the DX3 director's cut

Yep though if you own the original and/or The Missing Link you'll still have the discount(s) (hopefully) after the sale. If not Jase has worked out a way a kind soul who owns them can gift it to you.

Hard to compare. Do you want a simplistic old style shooter that offers a huge body count or would you rather try shadow warrior?
LOL! Well said.

I just picked up Shadow Warrior and I've been chuckling quietly to myself while slicing up baddies with a finely honed Katana for the past hour. Great fun!

Glad you picked up on that, I really like JRPG/Nintendo Interfaces so I tried to mimic that. And thanks for playing!

"For the sin that Acti do by two and two Xel must pay for one by one!"

Tomb Raider 2013 is a bit controversial-- not everybody loved it. The upside is you can get the entire Tomb Raider Collection for just $4 more. The downside is that it doesn't include Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light.

Shadow Warrior is not controversial-- pretty much everybody who plays it loves it. The only downside is it, too, doesn't include Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light.

(Or just look at the reviews on both store pages.)

Yup, Civ V upgrades are always cheaper than their DLC. I'm hoping Firaxis follows suit with XCOM.

The loyalty discount is permanent, since there's no actual discount on the director's cut. I'm hoping that some future sale has the director's cut at -75% and that it somehow stacks with the loyalty discount, because $5 is a bit much just to replay a game I already own.

Talking about Civ V, is it better to upgrade for the Gold edition or buy BNW? I need to start planing for the Winter sale.

Well seeing as both Gamefly and GMG had BNW at the same discount as Steam but you could use their respective 20% off vouchers I'd wait for them to crop up again.

Yeah I thought so. Though I'm erring on the side of caution and plonked it in my wishlist. -75% & -73% the remainder or vise versa would be insane.

Sale discounts overrule loyalty discounts* (unless Valve stuffs up, of course). For example, Scribblenauts Unmasked is half off for everybody even though there's typically a 20% discount for those who own Unlimited.

Edit: * By default, that is. I forgot about Rising Storm!

*sigh*

I really thought I wouldn't spend anything this sale. Then Tomb Raider went to 80% off and the next thing I know, I'm PayPal-ing Gaben my money. :(

Valdis Story: Abyssal City

Anybody got opinions on this? it looks decent. And there is a discount.
It's been getting some good impressions from GAF.
It play similar to an Igavania style game (Metroid-style Casltevania game from Iga)

Buy BNW. A ton of gameplay changes. The only thing you're missing out on are the various civilizations from the Gold edition, but you could probably get the gold upgrade for $2.50 during a flash sale if you really want additional wonders/civilizations (as I did).

I upgraded to Gold edition some time ago and it was worth it, it includes Gods and Kings, religion and spies. What else can you ask for?
I haven't bought BNW yet, just wanted to say that Gold edition is worth it.

So say DE:HR - DC (acronimgeddon!) goes on offer for -33% or -50% but the loyalty worked out higher ie -73% would the higher discount take priory then or is it always the sale discount regardless?

Thanks for the info, but I just sucked up the difference and picked it up. I'll just not grab a coke or something next time I want one

There needs to be an app to alert you to pricing errors before they're fixed.

That's an interesting question. I don't think there's ever been a case where a sale discount has been less than a loyalty discount.

In case anyone here is buying the Stanley Parable I'll re post my question here:

So I saw the sale and downloaded the demo to see what the game is like. But holy crap what is up with the FoV, how do I set this damn slider to just have a standard FoV and not be warping the screen.

Agreed. The only scenario where the Gold upgrade is of questionable (or lesser) value is if you were one of those (like me) who purchased Gods & Kings upon its release - Gold only brings a few extra civs and maps and whatnot in this case.

If you have vanilla Civ and can only afford one or the other, however, it's worth spending extra to pick up Brave New World instead. It includes all the Gods & Kings gameplay goodies, minus only the new civs that were introduced with it.

Sorry to hear that, Accent - Steam sale fatigue? Is that one of the stages? I think it might be one of the stages...

May a daily deal or three hit the right spot for you during the next sale.

I just recently realized that even at, like, $4, buying a game that I don't actively ache for was basically useless as I wouldn't play that game anytime soon, and I know that those games will only get gradually cheaper over time... so... yeah, I have somehow gone past the impulsive buying frenzy of steam sales, and I can even look at a game that's at the top of my wishlist, is discounted by 60%, and go 'well, I'll want to play this eventually, but I don't actually need to buy it now', all stoically and shit. Also to be honest I am a bit overwhelmed by the amount of games that I should play but won't ever (like films or books), so this does lead sometimes to me thinking 'well, if I take a look at the list of cult classics that I've yet to play, this seems far less important, a much lesser milestone in the medium' - and as a result the urge to buy it starts to feel kinda petty or childish.

Yeah I don't know what's happening to me I might need to consult a doctor :|
