NPD Sales Results for November 2013 [Up3: Zelda, Pokemon, Mario, 3DS, Wii U]

I don't my question from the previous pages has been answered yet but, isn't 400k the best opening for a handheld Zelda title?

(Considering it's like 1 week of sales)

Okay, bear with me guys, this is the first NPD thread I've actively followed in a long time.

Are the 3DS numbers really that bad? It's only tracking a couple mil behind the original DS at the moment, unless I was incorrectly reading that handheld sales chart that was posted a couple pages ago. Considering how drastically the handheld market has changed with smartphones, that at least appears on surface level to be a solid accomplishment. Not to mention that individual game sales for the system's heavy hitters have been healthy. 405 K for a handheld Zelda in only 8 days is pretty damn good given the current market (and I'm responsible for two of those purchases, huzzah!)

I completely understand all of the logistics as to why the Wii U numbers are shockingly awful, but 3DS not so much. Not to mention that the system is still attracting some high-caliber support from third parties. The system seems to be in very good shape overall to me, but I'm very curious as to why so many of you think otherwise.

As much as the Wii U numbers are giving me a sadness in my bones tonight, I feel almost as bad for Tearaway. I've never so much as touched a Vita, but Tearaway looks like a magical cartridge of creativity and unadulterated bliss.

Gaming is in a very sad state for me :( Nothing on the top ten is in line with my personal preferences. I'm morbidly fascinated to see what the landscape will look like in half a decade, but I'm also very afraid.

You are correct in everything you stated and the 3DS did fine. There's just some on here that only see things in extremes. Since it didn't break a million or outsell the brand new consoles, that somehow equates to awful.

In comparison to when ps3 launched:

How much was ps3 behind 360 when it launched?
What were 360/ps3 nov number when ps3 launch?

trying to get an idea of how different the situation is for sony and ms comparing the gens

78 pages to wade through? No thank you. Good sales for the two nextgen consoles. Why in the world is Sony not releasing the PS4 numbers? Also, the per week sales probably confirms MS will dominate December.

Honestly, in 5 days I was expecting no more than 750k for MS. Looks like NA could once again be Xbox land.

Doesn't sony have a policy of not releasing numbers? MS is the one that used to do it

Not sure if they still do it but NPD used to track leaks by tweaking the last 3-5 digits of the numbers to each report sent out. If you gave exact numbers you would likely get in some serious trouble since these reports cost serious money to have access to.

That makes sense

Many people are calling time on WiiU, but I genuinely feel 2014 is the make or break year for the Wii U with possibly 2015 being it's final year if it doesn't pick up still.

Why, exactly? If SM3DW had such a small impact, it's pretty unlikely that MK8 or SSB will do vastly more for hardware sales.

I highly doubt that Nintendo will kill Wii U next year (though with the possibility of a significant change in management, I won't completely rule it out), but there's no good reason left to reserve judgment.

I don't think it's the "best" but it's a very strong opening, and one of the strongest of handheld zelda. It actually might be the best. There were comparative numbers waaaay earlier in the thread, but I might have misread it.

My guess is it will be up until around February. Then Re-take the lead in NA after TitanFall's launch, then lose it again in the latter half of the year. I think the PS4 is going to be far more supply constrained in NA over December and even in to January (more markets to have to cater too), and Microsoft will most certainly capitalise on that. But I don't think the lead will last.

I saw a post in here and the discrepancy was wayyyyy bigger in favour of Xbox, I would say this is pretty much striking almost even in comparison.

I forget but it looked like 360 sold double ps3 in the launch + 35 day timeframe? I can't find the post again so im drawing from my terrible memory.

it'd be funny if two consoles sold pretty much the exact same numbers, so half the sources said one console outsold the other while the other half said the opposite

That would mean that the Wii U only sold 5 copies of CoD for each copy of Fighter Within (the worst launch game, by far) on the Xbox One. When the newest game in one of the most popular series around puts up numbers like that on your console, then it's safe to say that the console in question is dead.

Sorry, Wii U. I own one, but I fully expect it will be off the market in a couple years...

Terrible numbers indeed. But in casual shopping, I have to say COD Wii U doesn't stand much of a chance for the casual shoppers. I went to Walmart and saw in the electronics department this huge cardboard display for Ghosts. Pallet-sized. The only SKU not represented was the Wii U. It didn't even get its own row on the massive thing. Shit, not even a cubby-hole.

At Target, I saw something similar. Except this was an endcap style display by the checkouts. No Wii U version. I'm not saying representation would drastically shoot the numbers up, but it would at least make people aware that the SKU exists and at least persuade a couple of passers-by.

Good luck with that. If Sony released their first 8 days of sales only, they would have a higher sales per day number than MS. As long as PS4 is in supply, MS has little chance of taking December.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Congratulations to both MS and Sony for the successful launches in NA.

Good job.

Great time to be a gamer y'all ! (except if you put all your eggs in the wiiU basket i guess).

Mk and Smash are THE big guns. I think WiiU is probably beyond saving, but 3D Mario sold significantly less than they did last gen.

Sony said they are #1 overall for home consoles...

So PS4 + PS3 > Xbone + 360?

PS4 + PS3 > 1556k?

That's what I'm reading.

Xbox One + X360 < PS4 + PS3

909,000 + 647,000 < Y + 405,000

909,000 + 647,000 - 405,000 < Y

1,151,000 < Y

--

PS4 sold at least 1,151,000

Thanks for the graph. Interesting about BF4 and COD (mentioned on the previous page), since the Xbox One had no other exclusive shooter to share sales with unlike Shadow Fall for the PS4. Having said that, it did have more exclusives overall which might have taken away some of the multi platform sales bite.

Melee moved the gamecube of all things. MK has done better than its corresponding 3d mario on the last 2 home consoles. They'll probably still do better than 3d world.

I'm not calling "objectively good," just "significantly less horrible." putt the thing back closer to gamecube pace than nintendoomed pace.

Sony is shipping to far more territories and is nearing the Asia launch, which needs systems as well. They are spread far more thin.

At this point there's no way even those games will do that. Wii U is so far off from the curve here that what they need is basically a miracle.
