Most of the news has concentrate don his anti-gay, anti-atheists, "Shintos", etc. comments. But this stood out to me big time too:

Let's say he didn't see any discrimination first hand (I doubt that though). But the last statement makes it obvious that he relates the state of black people in America to the welfare/entitlement state. I don't even know how to respond to such stupidity.

Just to nip this in the bud, this factoid isn't indicative of some tragic societal decay. It's because of slimshadyesque "no wait, really, he didn't just say what I think he did did he?" that this show and its ilk are as popular as they are.

I guess you be right there is some of that factor.

But I also see people quoting him in regular life now. And the merchandising...my god. I guess living in SC doesn't help with that either.

To me that makes it way worse. It means people know how dumb and shitty the people they're watching are and continue to do it.

Even if you don't follow what Phil says off the show, his true nature can come through even on the show in moments such as when he's harassing his grandchildren for playing Xbox Live. Just an old man yelling at clouds.

There's two types of people in this world. Those who think 30 years in the past, and those who are thinking 30 years in the future.

I really wish this could be enough to get them off TV. Considering A&E kept Dog around for a while, too, I'm guessing not.
