Is third person supposed to work immediately or do you have to pass a specific sequence to get it, because for some reason, it won't go into 3rd person view and I have it as my main option

You've gotta get past the tutorial sequence. When you see the cutscene where John kills the zombies with the helicopter, then you can switch to third person

Ran into a strange glitch today. I was just running through the woods following some power lines when suddenly I was teleported to a road and the camera is just slowly spinning around me and i can't do anything including not being able to access the menu.

I just brought this earlier and I'm really enjoying it so far. I've managed to not die yet, I expect it will happen soon enough though. I've gotten in a few close calls so far, killed 3 other players and I'm fully geared up. I just need to focus on learning the map now. That seems like it will be my biggest challenge since I've never played the mod before.

It's a glitch. If you relog you should be good to go.

Spent the whole day gathering crap with the group and decided to go log out in a building only to fall into the geometry. I hate you green raised house in Vybor. Oh well, it's not like half of this shit even works right now anyway.

So you have that .45 pistol? Found a magazine for it? I've probably seen like 7 or 8 pistols since the beginning at the very least, and not one single magazine for it! I have 18 bullets, tho I can't use it because I have no magazine. At least I have that Mauser I murder people with. XD

(Don't do any abrupt movement if you're being told to stop moving, that's just bad karma to happen. ha ha ha)

I had really nice sessions today with Busta and Synthetic! Crazy stuff happened, we had about 5 encounters with other players, all hostile (or almost xD). I fell unconscious once after Synthetic and myself exchanged shot with another guy, but got revived right after by Synthetic with a saline bag. Same spot in Green Mountain, Busta got killed by either a guy who had just logged in, or the partner of the guy who we had just exchanged fire with. It was so crazy.

Then that guy in the garage that popped out in the back of Busta in that small village, oh man, Him and his big wrench didn't know the trouble he was getting into by meeting us! After telling him to holster that wrench, he got out a pistol! So Busta quickly shot him inbetween the eyes followed by another shot behind the head from my mauser. Then it just happened that Synthetic noticed that it wasn't actually a pistol but a FLASHLIGHT. Oh wow, So funny. XD good stuff.

It's the FN45 or whatever. It's not that special pistol. I've found a bunch of clips in the Balota airfield/military base/camp. Then I found more in a secluded base that I'm keeping secret for now ;).

Playing later tonight I really really good OG GAFZ will be on.

I'm really beginning to dislike the m4, still can't hit anyone with it unless they are within 50m. I'm liking the mosin with a pu scope though, much more fun to use!

Yup, whoever had the idea that opening a drink should be an ambient noise is an evil genius.

But is it always a bug? There was a time when I heard clearly a soda being opened in one of the shithole towns inland and it was quite a complete sound. I freaked out a bit and turns out there was really someone else in town and ended up killed him. Coincidence..?

Took a break from DayZ as the jank was getting to me and started playing Rust. Between the two at it's current state, Rust is a lot better. It's insanely fun, and some of you would really like it.

Ya, Rust looks like a great deal of fun. It has been in Alpha for a long time at this point though.

Missed the sale on that one :(
Already got me Sir, You are being Hunted though.

Hah hah hah good joke.

They couldn't "fix" it in the last ten years, how they would be capable of doing it now.

Well Rocket said this if it means anything

Multithreaded Server

Target delivery: Early 2014 & Ongoing

To assist with increasing player and zombie numbers, we will be parallelizing the server architecture. Currently RV does offload some extra threads off to other cores, but this is for rendering and file handling
Neither of which are issues for the dedicated server which uses no rendering and has a greatly reduced file footprint.
This should provide some very, very dramatic improvement in performance where additional cores are available. Note, however, that this will increase the complexity of hosting DayZ - it may mean that we see a greater dispersion in the capacities of DayZ servers.

I don't know if I enjoy this game.

Spent 45 minutes running up and down the same road looking for something to drink.

Found one soda and a backpack and nothing else after looking through seven houses.

Graphics are terrible and the movement feels even worse.

I want to get to the enjoyable part of the experience quicker but I'm not sure that's easy.

So is there a GAF teamspeak? Or what are people on?

I have a TeamSpeak server, and I've been organizing groups the last few days as well.

Taking in lone wolves and making a gang out of them.

New page, so I'll say it again:

Just add me: Busta_SMurk or Busta SMurk on Steam, and I'll send you the TS info when I'm on.

Also join GAFZ, or even the NeoGAF groups on Steam Groups, as I pick up people from there as well.

If you see me online, and I'm in DayZ, just tell me where you are are we will try to meet up. I usually have 2-3 other people with, or near me.

It's broken as fuck at this stage, but I'm use to it because I played the MOD very early so I knew what to expect, I honestly can't wait for a real dev to come along and competely copy the game and just make it work.

In regards to loot you need to run far far inland, I'm in a town right now looting the shit out of it.... it's crazy, I have an M4 with attachments, all sorts of shit.

I actually think the graphics are sex on max, however I agree the animation is poor and the responsiveness is attrocious, sometimes I have to press V to jump around 30 times before anything happens.

Just saw this video on Reddit about how standalone is currently utilizing the CPU and GPU. Hopefully this means a huge performance boost for some people when it is taken care of.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ssjr36NKTE

Wow, thats terrible.

How could this even flythrough devs testing?

Can a person who posted here that he has 50-60fps in cities, can make similar video from?
I'm pretty sure all those info can be get from MSI Afterburner.

I found this in youtube comments, can anyone test it

Code:
DO THIS, will increase your FPS by atleast 25;

(DayZ MUST be closed before you edit these files)

Go to My Documents, enter folder DayZ, open dayz.cfg, change the following lines to this;
GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1;
GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=1;

then save the document.

Go back to My Documents, enter DayZ Other Profiles folder, enter your username folder, open the your username.cfg file (not the .vars version).

Scroll to bottom and change the following lines to this;

sceneComplexity=100000;
shadowZDistance=100;
viewDistance=1600;
preferredObjectViewDistance=1600;

Save the file. Start DayZ SA game, and enjoy an additional >25 fps :-)

Don't hold your breath, this has been a flaw with the engine since its inception and has never been fixed.

This has nothing to do with client performance.

That's the equivalent of lowering the draw distance in Arma so it should give you a frame boost at the expense of not being able to see very far unless the distance is server locked.

You're heading the right way for a smacked bottom, fella.

Why? Because the graphics ARE terrible and it DOES play like shit?

I realize this is alpha, doesn't make it any less true.

I want to like this game. I'm going to give it some more time, but I'm not going to be blind to where it needs to improve.

It's broken as fuck at this stage, but I'm use to it because I played the MOD very early so I knew what to expect, I honestly can't wait for a real dev to come along and competely copy the game and just make it work.

Man the game cannot be more KOS than that. I was eating cereals in a house, alt-tabbed, and still got shot haha. I was a terrible threat!

I was more curious about. I know that later was probably just changing lod settings.
GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1;
GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=1;

It's funny, people even attack when they're clearly outmatched. A guy tried to fistfight me when I was holding an fire axe. One swift chop with the axe took care of him.

First time playing DayZ last night and damn. I got motion sick pretty bad. Probably due to the head bobbing/motion blur/strange frame rate

I was only able to play for about 15 minutes

You can turn off the headbob in the menu, and the blur can be turned off by setting post-process to off.

First time out I lasted a couple of hours. I ultimately died, not by zombies or other people, but by a rotten orange that I ate. I had no idea eating a piece of rotten fruit would be fatal. I figured it would make my guy sick, but killing me? That's one dangerous piece of fruit. I lay there unconscious for a good while until my friend joined my game and came over to my body and took all my stuff to hold for me... then someone comes along with a gun and kills my friend, lol.

I turned off post-processing yet I still have blur. Did I do it wrong?

I'll admit some of the textures can look a little washed out, particularly the ground textures but some of the details on the weapons and clothing really do look photo-realistic, play with your settings a bit more.

Keep plotting along with the looting, it's still an alpha.

Had a weird experience with a guy at the Balota airfield. I ran into it from the northeast, and saw the eastern air traffic tower. I figured, shit, this is a relatively new spawn, what's thee to lose? So I run up, and instead of taking the front door, I start climbing up the ladder on the opposite side. Suddenly, this guy decked out with an M4 and army camo comes into view, and he goes into the front door. At this point I'm nearly at the top of the ladder. All I have is a fireaxe, so I really don't want to combat this guy head on. Especially with how slow you move on stairs, I really needed the element of surprise and a good running blow.

So I climb down to the halfway point of the ladder, and sit there for two minutes or so, waiting for someone to shoot me in the back, or for this guy to show up. He eventually gets to the top, and he does a sweep of the outer rim of the tower. I'm amazed he didn't spot me, because he got right to the edge of the ladder. Was sure I was gone. But, he just walks back inside the tower, and I hear him pop a can of beans and start eating. I figure, shit, this is my only chance. I get up the ladder, axe in hand, and run up to the middle of the tower.

He's not there. Weird. I saw him here seconds ago. I go downstairs. Nothing. Check behind the stairwell, take a quick peak outside. Guy's nowhere to be seen. He was JUST eating some food. My guess is, he saw me coming and logged. To me it looked like he just lagged through the building. Anyway, I go back to the top, take one last look around. Go down the stairs again, and there he is, crouched in a corner with his rifle ready, and I don't even bother trying to get to him. He's a set of stairs below me, he has a rifle, just, take my death and maybe I'll get a better spawn next time. Sure enough the dude blows me away, and takes his sweet time doing it.

The weird part is, while I'm sitting at the 'you are dead' screen, talking to some guys in Steam chat, I hear the dude over mic yelling something. "NO! I DIDN'T-", followed by a round of gunshots, two sets of footsteps, and some distant microphone chatter I didn't pick up.

I'm not really sure what to make of that whole situation. A mix of possible combat logging and miscommunication? Whatever it was, it was better than the usual deaths I get in this game.

Next time I'll just head north.

I don't recall them saying they touched the ground textures, which is why you're seeing a disparity between them and the weapons/clothes.

Wait, did you fall through as you were logging out or when you logged back in? I logged out in the top of a house :(

So I think I am going to wait until two things are fixed/implemented.

- Controls are janky and laggy, mouse acc. is disgusting :/
- Zombies are not fun to fight (did I hit it? did it hit me?) and clip through buildings, there is no way to outrun them and hide in buildings.

Enjoying the hell out of Sir, YABH right now.

Anyone else getting constant disconnects? Keep getting the 'no message received for x seconds' so I quit, join another server and less than a minute in a get the same. Internet connection is fine so not sure why this keeps happening.

Me and my buddy had an intense skirmish in a military base recently.

We play on a low pop UK server so we were getting kinda lazy about being careful of other players. So we're all decked out and decide to check out this military base. We spend 10 minutes on one side checking for loot and I pop up my inventory while standing outside a building for a quick second and I'm shot dead from out of nowhere. My buddy is upstairs freaking out and I tell him to just sit tight and watch my body. Sure enough a guy completely decked out in military gear slowly walks over to my body. My buddy takes him out with his Mosin and immediately gets shot at from another guy in an adjacent building. So they spend 10 more minutes in a game of chicken before my buddy finally gets taken out by the other guy with an M4 with suppression. We lost everything.

Now anytime we go to a city/base like that we drop off our important gear and scope the place out first. This game is amazing.

Your stomach grumbles.

I wish they toned down the requirements on food and water, it seems you need to eat and drink at least every 5-10 minutes at the moment.

Cyborgmatt, are you making sure to eat and drink until it says "your stomach is full?" The hunger and thirst status bars only go away when you've consumed the minimum amount you need in order to stop losing blood. But you can eat and drink much more than that. If I see a well I will drink until my stomach is full and not be thirsty again for hours.

Oh I didn't realise there is a message for that, I was just drinking/eating until the bars on the inventory page went away.

Thanks.

Yeah I was talking about the FN45. You should join up with us, I'm pretty much the only one new in the group, but I'm getting the hang of things now, so everything seems a lot easier than it first was.
