I really enjoyed this. The outdoor backgrounds looks really nice, and the music and the slower pace fits the country setting. Don't think it needed that much senpai obsession though.

It's funny, because the characters are all tropes - to the point where you could probably do an isomorphic transform to GJ-bu and get the exact same cast - but it needs more than just guy resisting being tortured by girls or guy enjoying being tortured by girls.

Opening: While I do like it, I'm actually pretty disappointed that its not as blood pumping as the first one.
Ending: On par with the previous one.
First half focus on how good friends Naruko and Imai are to each other. Also, a display of their parental nature when they're concerning over Onoda.
Flagrant Mido the antagonist backstory showing and will have a hand in making things rough for our protagonists. Will be fun when he meets Imai again.
Really liking some of the other Hakone guys. Toudou definitely trumps Mana in the beauty department and I'm going to be keeping a close eye on the second year with his pals Frank and Andy.
Naturally a catgirl is a favorite. Order of the universe and all.

the fighting barely started in this episode and half of it was dedicated to showing how badass Netero was and how he got his strength. Aw well, this explanation had to come at some point, and Netero is even more amazing because of it.

I knew youd enjoy monogatari Corvy kun. Its special. Probably for all the wrong reasons but theres really nothing else like it.
Shaft pretty consistently work on some really interesting subject matter despite their production values and I keep coming back to it.

The flashback is incredible badass, and even filled me with feels. That level of dedication, the whole reason for it, pure gratitude to the martial arts that changed his life, the pure crazyness and obsession that in the end it made him beyond human, and fun smugness when he returns from the mountains.
Also the inside-the-story explanation of why the characters can talk between them when it makes sense from the dramatic standpoint even if realistically doesn't make sense as only tenths of second occurs is hilarious, original and so appropriate.

It's weird to think that such a show had a pretty strong voice cast as well: Rie, Tanaka, Wakamoto, Mizuki, Kawasumi. Even Daisuke Ono has a minor part as one of the extra ninjas.

God, it's all coming back to me. I still hope that Kawahara doesn't *believe* in any of this bullshit and that he has found the perfect way to get into the heart of the otaku and stroke his "ego" in order to sell shitty fiction, much in the way that I just assume Stephanie Meyer actually hates her reading audience because there is no way that she thinks her writing is actually any good.
I can only hope that because I'm just reminded of the fact that the anime itself has no self-awareness. That it expects me to give a shit about any of these characters and their lust for the most perfect man ever. That it expects me to just buy into the shitty OreImo angst to the point that in the new material, they do their best to push it hard because I'm assuming (pseudo)-incest sells the most and Sugu is the "fan favourite" character of the franchise. Even in what amounts to a pointless OVA with no ties to the series beyond setting up the sequel season in a 5 second Marvel-esque tag after the credits, they just can't fucking help themselves. Fucking hell.
The people who like this thing will continue to like it. I'm sure they'll like the second season too. But for me, this was a reminder of everything that was contemptuous and insidious of the original series. Is it the worst thing on the internet since child porn? Apparently some crazy asshole said it was earlier in the year, so I'll have to defer to his opinion. All I can say that this series still represents everything that is terrible about anime in the 2010s. It's not the moefication of heroines or the rise of girl-only slice of life shows (because people who reduce Hidamari Sketch to "girls being cute for male audiences" can just go fuck themselves), it's this need to encourage the otaku audience into self-gratification through a reification of their hobbies. Buying games and figures and BDs and doujin and body pillows and onaholes are sacred activities to be praised and encouraged, because the otaku will feel good about themselves while continuing to contribute to the churn of the industry.
But you know what? Maybe this is the anime that we deserve, because even something like Yamato 2199 can't fully escape the churn of the modern anime industry.
I'm sure someone will point that I watched a show I called BoobJoust, and if you count the five minutes it takes for me to go through each episode, then yes, I did. But the thing is that BoobJoust, and I presume the other harem shows this season, don't insist on the importance of their characters or their plot. The directors or writers or whomever know enough that they are just hocking merchandise, than any dramatic beats are to create a serviceable story, not because they have a story that is actually worth telling. Imagine a shitty harem with the gravitas of 12 Years a Slave. That is what's wrong with SAO in a nutshell.

What a wonderful battle. Every bit of preparation gets paid off in a surprising way.
I'm not really sure what else to say. For a ship battle fought on multiple fronts and from multiple angles, every move was clear, and every action affected the final outcome in a way that the viewer can easily understand. Absolutely excellent. Perhaps the best space battle I've seen in anime this side of Gunbuster 6 (though I honestly haven't seen that many worthy space battles).
Garmillas's relationship with Iskandar remains enigmatic, and I hope that more is revealed soon.

One of the many aspects of this show's excellent visual design is how it grounds its space battles in World War II naval imagery, both in its depiction of the ships and its depiction of space. The Yamato being an updated version of an actual WWII battleship might have seemed an anachronism, but thanks to metaphors like the ion storm or the ocean surface shown here, it fits.
Garmillas's relationship with Iskandar remains enigmatic, and I hope that more is revealed soon.
