I suppose it could be a spin off game that continues SPOPS/Infinity but I feel that just points to the main line game anyhow.

You're right in saying it could be anything, I just don't think it is. Agree to disagree.

I will merely agree that you have a gut feeling and your attempts to justify it by the presence of the Infinity are poorly reasoned.

We still have time between Thursday War and Halo 4, and we also have the main character of the series (which the next mainline game will presumably be focused on) wandering around alone in the desert. nfinity being present doesn't mean much; It could be a mainline game, or it could not.

You are not the only one.

Spartan II and III = soldiers.

Spartan IV = dudebros.

Have you met real soldiers? The Dudiest Bros I know are in the military. The Spartan IVs were pretty realistic in that regard.

Can the arbiter please look like this?

Sean_mcnally_arbiter_cape.jpg

I mean, to be honest it's not quite the right kind of art style. I'm mainly looking at the hulking "I am the arbiter" (as opposed to standard elites who are significantly less awesomely adorned) and foreign, ancient look of the armor, which I thought was kind of the point of the arbiter in the first place, it being an ancient, honorable, distinct rank (again, I have not read anything on Halo save a whole bunch of wikis). The Halo 3 arbiter, I thought, could have looked maybe a bit more epic.

I'll take anything at this point, though.

Ripa 'Moramee (Halo Wars Arbiter) sounds right up your alley.

Don't weapon cache searches end badly? As for Palmer her whole personality just turns me off, I mean dry and sarcastic sense of humor (the thing that they were aiming for most likely) would be great if it was done well. She just seems arrogant and obtuse to me.

What about that other Spartan lady in escalation she's part of jackknife, is her character written well?

Minus the weird-ass toe talon and tribal braids, I desperately want Elites like this in the next game.

The physiology and finishing on the metal are so perfect. Well, minus the doofy-ass head. Give it a Halo 3 Elite head and we're in business.

I guess I'm not really seeing what separates this from a Reach or 3 elite other than that it's rather skinny.

It wouldn't work for Halo, but I always found this Daedalius-esque Arbiter concept to be strangely charming, if busy as fuck.

I was actually thinking about posting this one, only I thought the other one did a bit better of a job of possibly fitting into halo.

Also, that busy kind of style is part of what makes it look so "ancient," which...well, I already commented on that.

That energy staff thing looks something I could really go for though.

There's a gaming side thread about the worst music of the generation, I already did the menu music but I'm sure you could think of more. thread

Elite honor guides look nice I wonder how that halberd handles though?

Image quality, really. It's more 2 / CE than 3, imo, but the armor finish / proportions / etc. seem pretty refined. I actually wasn't a huge fan of Reach Elites; they had great concept art, but the actual models were really janky-ass, bulbous, overly-reflective design... it works fine as an enemy concept, I guess, but I think something like the concept art I listed would be a good balance of "relatable" and powerful.

I have met real soldiers. The ones I respect are the ones that act more like Spartan II characters.

I'll rephrase

Spartan II - Ideal, disciplined soldiers.

Spartan IV - Dudebros.

YES!

EDIT For other aliens i like Halo 3 models most. And find Halo 4 ones usually better than Reach models. Something's just off with Reach Covies.

I think the unique models for enemies in Reach was a nice idea, but it didn't really work in practice for me. The Elites especially.

:/

I actually really liked Reach's style of covenant. It made it look so much more distinct from everything.

The buildings, vehicles, everything just looked more like something from some other world. In 3 it just looks like....idk, another building made out of some odd material.

Besides, Reach seemed, despite otherwise being very drab, like it took a lot more notes from CE than 3. In CE, Covenant and UNSC are very distinct from one another, with UNSC almost having a World War II-esque feel to it's aesthetic, and Covenant having this very distinct brightly colored purple, green, and blue asthetic. Reach seemed to get that very distinct, somewhat over-the-top-but-refined look that CE had and still manage to make it not look janky in the drab, depressing world it housed.

edit: yeah, hm, it looks like I'm completely opposite from everybody here. I really liked the elites style (sort of. I disliked the yellow they used on the captains or whatever they were).

Reach enemies have too much detail and stuff. They're... unclear. For some reason i find Halo 4 Elites** (and other enemies) to be much easy to distinguish (though brighter colors help too). And some i just plain don't care for, like Reach Grunts and Brutes. Skirmisher's look good.
And Reach's use of color... too muted. It's like the game has this damn next-gen filter enabled*. And why the fuck were all the Brutes using gold armor? And where are my field commanders with their pretty golden armor (Field Marshall's don't count, they look just plain stupid with their silly hat and wrong shade of gold/yellow)?

*I actually liked that in the first trailer for Reach, but when i played the game, it was nowhere near as dark and moody (and bloody and gory) as i hoped it to be so the muted colors ended up annoying me). Lacked the proper dark atmosphere, and weak storytelling didn't help any.

**EDIT not that Halo 4 Elites need to be distinguished, they're all too dumb, passive and weak for their rank to matter, unfortunately. I like Halo 4 but it's AI is way too stupid, compared to earlier Halos. Still prefer it over Reach's cheating AI.

Good writing might fix her being lame, but it won't fix her being a douche.

Unless they did something cool and made something happen to her to make her wizen up a little. Maybe have something emotionally devastating happen to her so she can "grow up" a little bit or something. Not using the right words exactly, but you get what I mean.

Something akin to the "I don't like to lose" thread they gave Kirk in the Star Trek movies would be interesting.

I still think Halo 2 had the best proportions for Elites. They were tall, athletic and still menacing which fully channeled the intelligent warriors they are meant to convey.

As time went one they became too hunched, hulking and monstrous.

Yea i like that version but Reach was pretty similar to Halo 1 and 2 Elites as well.

Will you walk through those streets with your poncho on and order noodles like in Blade Runner?

This made me think of Master Chief in disguised a long poncho walking down a crowded side walk with other humans because he wants to fit in. It would be cool to see something like this in a game ot tv show.

CE Elites were scary and mysterious. Halo 2 Elites were cool. Halo 3 Elites were a joke (worst). Reach Elites were kind of scary again and felt alien. Halo 4 Elites were goofy and low budget.

The Arbiter can save us.

I wish the Prometheans looked different, why wouldn't the Forerunners just make the Prometheans look more humanoid like themselves? Instead they are robots with characteristics of beetles. The Promethean owl in the Halo 5 trailer looked ridiculous as well, so there's probably not much hope for a design change.

I agree with this assessment. Down to the spoiler.

Much better no?

Actually...

It would probably be too big for them I mean he's 246.3cm tall a normal elite looks tiny:

It is a shame to waste nice looking armor though.

Wait a second. How did Ripa fit into that armor in the first place? I can't imagine all the Arbiters before him were that huge.
