Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
Oh for the record this thread is moving way too fast for me, so I'm not really keeping up for now

I'm not sure if this NPD thread is drunk or I am drunk.

I'd like to think it's a little bit of both.

Awaiting concreteness.

Will be interesting to see what happens when Sony finally can get the supply to retail.

A lot of people already bit the bullet and bought an X1 though.

Down here in Australia everyone I know IRL who was planning on grabbing a PS4 for Xmas missed out and ended up buying X1's since they were already set on getting a new console for themselves/sons/bros/etc.

Oh we believe Wii U sold more than 463k as that was its best month. In the NPD release they mentioned Wii U had its best month by sold units. Some are trolling or serious who knows now that this means for 2013.

That would be collusion which is very illegal. Gamestop matters because they were allowed to buy up all of their competition and force their business practices to dominate the video game retail market.

Companies can't ignore that. Just look at the damage Amazon has caused Nintendo by refusing to directly sell the Wii U and 3DS. Having a shitty relationship with retailers will bite you in the ass.

Let me put it another way. How did pretty much all companies decide $59.99 was going to be the average game price last gen? $50 before that? What about greatest hits games at $20 and then $30?

If for example Sony started releasing digital games for $50 instead of $60, they would get more sales. Microsoft and Nintendo would follow suit, inevitably. Do you think Gamestop is really going to take the biggest seller off the front of the store because it charges ten dollars less for digital games? Do you think Microsoft would let Sony have that digital advantage, when Microsoft wanted to go all-digital to begin with?

I mean, maybe they would. But I don't think it would last long. They would give in. Eventually, they will give in. But we'll have to wait and see :)

I only know one person who bought an XBOne, but his mates in Melbourne also bought them.
But I only have two friends who bought a PS4, and another one is planning to get one after he's done with his PS3. So not big numbers either way. :p

The OP needs to be updated. The last point there should say full year instead of December. Here is the relevant quote from Game Industry:

As for the industry as a whole, the NPD reported... while software sales slipped 9 percent to $6.12 billion...

Looking at the numbers from just December... software sales that dropped 17 percent to $1.28 billion.
