New Alien: Isolation screenshots

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
Anybody who can't recognise a synthetic should hang their head in shame, get out of this thread, and immediately watch Alien.

Also for anyone wondering, OPM noted there is "no fire button" in the game. Some horror purists might like the sound of that.

I read in the Edge preview that this isn't quite true. There are guns in the game but they're scarce. The CA guy said 'think TLoU rather than CoD'.

Graphically it looks really great in some of those shots.

This game.

THIS GAME.

This is what they should have released last year instead of that PoS Colonial Marines...

Look at this nasty fucker.

Yeah, imagine coming out of hiding, turning a dark corner with no weapon and then being slammed up against a wall with that hissing in your face. It's definitely looking like the Alien game we want and the Alien game we deserve.

Alien is 35 years old this year, seems poignant this game goes back to it's roots. Hopefully it will deliver in a big way, after the huge clusterfuck that was Colonial Marines, Alien fans deserve a great game to do the name proud.

Here's exactly what the Edge preview says re. weapons:

"And that's to say that, yes, Alien: Isolation has a fire button, so yes, there are guns in the game, but you won't be shooting often. Ammunition is limited to a handful of rounds at a time - The Last of Us not Call of Duty, says Hope - and while gunfire might be useful against the inevitable homicidal humans or those Working Joes, the alien shrugs off anything you throw at it."

It notes that in the demo shown to press, the motion tracker is the only tool available to the player - maybe that's where some of the press claims about no guns come from.

With graphics that amazing (if these are real, that is, and not complete bullshots) then the gameplay has to suck, right? I mean, they can't give their 100% to both graphics and gameplay at the same time so one of them has to be sacrificed and by the looks of things, the graphics are winning. Regardless, even if the gameplay isn't up to scratch, I'll still play because, I can't lie, I love me some pretty eye candy.

I have no problem with it being limited.

Interesting, thanks. I'm rereading the OPM section on the game and they re-iterated twice "there's no fire button". Some fact checking needs to be done before these go to print, *sigh*.

That's weird. If the Xenomorph is the only alien in the game, who else will we shoot at? Marines?

Impressive texture work and great lighting. They really nailed the feeling of the set of the original Alien.

Routine needs to come out soon or it'll get swallowed.

Rogue androids, clearly.

I don't like hearing about fire buttons, guns and human enemies. :/

Well shit. Those are some damn next-geny graphics. If they nail the atmosphere too, this will be a must-get even with shitty gameplay.

I'm guessing there are survivors. And also there are synthetic workers on the station, and I guess not all have been destroyed by the Alien. So like Edge says, there might be scope for encounters with off-kilter humans/synthetics. But maybe few and far between.

If these two assumptions are correct;

1) It uses the non-revised 'Alien' timeline, of the movie being set in 2079.
2) The calendar is current.

Then the calendar depicted is inaccurate.
Ofngp0r.png

Edit: the calendar is most likely "last year's" calendar, which makes it June 2093, which does match up to the screenshot.

Edit2: There are actually two month's depicted on that calendar at the same time, so it makes no sense at all.

Bomba.

Hm, alright. As long as it's rare I guess I won't mind. was liking the whole idea of it being like Amnesia though :p

It sounds a lot like Amnesia: Space Edition which I have no problem with whatsoever, it sounds incredible. If Gearbox can get this right, they could have a massive hit on their hands. I'm hoping for an atmosphere along the lines of Dead Space v Amnesia. I could do with a new horror game that will require the purchase of new underwear.

i understood this reference!!

hmm, looks freaking great to me. i kinda wish they hadn't shown the alien at all before release though. even if we all already know what it looks like.

Agree with that. Although we kinda know what it will look like, knowing exactly how it looks in the game sort of spoils some of the mystery that the Alien is supposed to represent.

That's cool! I liked the first movie the best, didn't like the others.

Gameplay video looked fine, and the hands on previews made it sound fine.

Not Gearbox. It's made by Creative Assembly.

That rejuvenates my interest in the game. Limited ammo > no ammo; Amnesia-style games are overrated.

I'm not sure my heart could take playing this game on the latest dev build of Occulus Rift.

Preorder cancelled.

Just jk, i cant wait for this.

People really need to stop getting so hyped for these games. They always end up disappointed.

People should get hyped for what ever they want to get hyped for. They should just adjust their hype meter as they go forward. This looks great... so far.

Just checked the gameplay video on Youtube and, good God, it looks amazing. Looks like I might have to pre-order my copy on PS4. This game looks and sounds absolutely incredible.

And my bad, thought it was Gearbox.

Colonial Marines looked pretty good too.

Let us not forget.

Let us pray.

Different developers, people have played the game and again, different developers.

Just because the IP is the same, doesn't mean everything based on it is of the same quality.

sigh.. why are we doing this to ourselves? I know any Alien fan has played every single game. They've all been terrible. Every single one.

Yet we force ourselves to do it.

*sigh*

day 1.

I........Oculus Rift.....it would be glorious.....

Its gonna be real hard making Alien Isolation to run at rock-solid 95 fps. Vast majority of PC gamers will need to drop visual settings way down and destroy the look of the game to raise framerate high end eliminate harmful effects for low persistence strobing.

That's of course possible only if the game is not CPU-bound [hopefully game will support Mantle renderpath to eliminate that bottleneck].
