Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

I just noticed that both times we've seen the adventure stages they've been for 3DS.

It's probably fair to say that the 3DS version is getting the better developed solo content this time around, so it wouldn't surprise me if the adventure/solo mode we've seen so far is exclusive to it.

I'm not establishing an ironclad official rule about rumors. I'm aware of the legit Brawl rumor on GameFAQs back when. I'm just advising people to not post every "lol this is obv fake but here you go" rumor they find, especially if it's just going to kick up pages of discussion about a fake rumor that would probably confuse anybody popping in here.

If it's really terribly, awfully fake to the point of hilarity, then sure, we might get laughs from it. And there might be a legit leak, though God knows nobody would be able to tell, most likely.

I'm not fundamentally opposed to rumors per se so much as meaningless off topic ramblings about the daily "i werks wif sakeray and ripley iz a playable assist stage hazard, geno and goku are in" rumors. That, and the intermittent, "Well, I think Nintendo will probably have a Direct next week because of reasons, let's talk about random non-Smash games that might appear" tangents that pop up every couple weeks.

I'm not going to ban anybody unless they're absolutely atrocious about this and even then they'll be warned first, I just want this thread to be halfway presentable at times.

Thank you very much for clarifying that out for me, and I will reducing my posts about false rumors as if it sound so obvious fake. I really appreciate that.

You're so lucky to have it. I should have jumped on it when it was still around. I had no idea it would get so expensive.

Do you guys think Zero Suit will come back? That was probably my least favorite 'character'.

They screwed up by making zero suit come after the smash. It should be able to go back and forth like zelda or how about we have it be a separate character all together.

Its tough getting good at zero suit when I get to use her 1/10th of the time I play as samus.

I'm expecting a screenshot, probably around 2 a.m. EST. I think that's a reasonable expectation. :p

You could start the match as Zero Suit Samus by holding down the shield button. There's also a taunt input to break out of the armor at any time, too.

Something I didn't really realize is that Samus has appeared a little buffed, though it's subtle in most areas. A little research here and there by me, with comparisons from both Smash 4 and Brawl...

> Forward Smash now has an explosion effect at the tip, which most likely indicates increases in both range and power (it was a pretty weak smash attack in Brawl).

> Neutral Air has a slightly different animation where Samus extends her leg out further.

> Her jab animation appears slightly different. Whether it reaches further or not I can't really tell.
TPNMB65.jpg

> Thanks to her taller, slimmer frame in Smash 4, forward tilt (angled upwards in these pictures) appears to reach further, but this isn't something I can really prove.

> Charge Shot is now "drastically" more powerful. In Brawl, a full Charge Shot can kill Mario at ~80% near the ledge on Final Destination.

You can play as Zero Suit Samus at the start of the match by selecting Samus and holding the shield button when you transition from the character select screen to the stage select screen.

Has anyone in smashgaf ever make fake accounts and made up rumors for a smash game before?, dont worry ,your safe here O:

Not on GAF, but on Smashboards, back when it had that blog function introduced first, me and some other people shared a fake account named after Sakurai and posted fake reveals for Roy and Dr. Mario using fan-made pictures.

All of these Brawl/Sm4sh side-by-side comparisons make me realize how much of a graphical update some of these models really are from their predecessors. Brawl-era Samus looks like a plastic bobble-head.

I'M FINISHED!

Um exCUSE me Sakurai but CLEARLY the best choice for Smash Bros would be my fav niche character HOWEVER you are clearly INCOMPETENT and
Ridley is in the armor now. That is why there seems to be all of these upgrades.

Great job on awesome comparisons.

Yeah, it seem that Samus got a good amount of buff so I hope that she would be more fun to play with. Also Sakurai did mentioned that she got buffed with charged beam.

Wow, awesome post, FlynnCL. I'm so excited to play Samus again, I was so disappointed by Brawl's nerfed version of her. She could use a few more kill moves too, like the awesome ice shoryuken from Project M.

Yeah, I just don't like her moveset. At all.

That's good to know. I play as normal Samus a lot so being able to kill with that move will definitely benefit me tons.

Nice FlynnCL, I would do this for olimar but we have no footage, I wonder how is he going to transition into a faster game because right now in project M due to the speed (honestly without wave dashing etc is pretty close to smash 4) Olimar has pretty much become a aggro character. What I really wan't to know is will he keep 6 pikmin.

So the smash attack is like Mario now? Samus needs more representative moves, not just this Smash 64 haphazardly-guessed Super Metroid moves. Samus isn't supposed to have a "big beam". Samus isn't supposed to have a wimpy fire attack up smash that is bad all-around. Or a wimpy forward-air. Or a pair of easily-dodged gimped missiles. Samus needs drastic change.

Eh, I'm just expecting the usual. Just a random screenshot that doesn't reveal too much.

No screenshot is going to reveal more than one or two things, I imagine, so it depends on your definition of 'too much' but the majority of the last 30 or 40 shots have revealed at least some little piece of new information.

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like her doing an aside-glance while jabbing is actually pretty smart if you take into account the anatomy of her suit: in close-quarters combat where she doesn't have immediate access to her beam, she's using her shoulderpads to shield her face from impacts.

Now that I'm looking at stills, it seems like Brawl's animations relied pretty extensively on making her feel like a 2D-moving character, while SSB4 is giving her a little more personality, even if it's subtle - her moves feel more refined and some of them, like the aforementioned helmet-shielded punches, have an almost militaristic quality to them.

...like she's putting more attention towards the Smash universe now that the bounty game in the Metroid franchise has died down. Oh my godddddddd.

Maybe Sakurai's reviving characters by buffing the hell out of ones from allegedly dead franchises.
I mean I can agree to an extent, but her playstyle/design was always pretty decent (until Brawl happened). Furthermore, she'd be the single most destructive/oppressive character short of endgame Uprising Pit if they were to really give her everything as depicted by her in the Metroid games.

This is why I feel like giving her arsenal a complete showcase as a Final Smash would be great. We get brought-down-to-normal Varia Samus in traditional Smash, and then for an FS she gets her Fully-Powered Suit like in Zero Mission.

- Rosalina is the only Mario newcomer.
Waluigi and Toad were at once considered, but Waluigi remains an Assist Trophy, and Toad a move for Peach.
- Bowser Junior, Paper Mario and Daisy were never considered. Bowser Junior was planned to be an Assist Trophy, but was scrapped.
Fawful is a new Mario Assist Trophy. He acts like Mr. Resetti, but will attack opponents at random.
- Diddy Kong will be the next revealed veteran, to coincide with Tropical Freeze’s release date.
Diddy is paired with Dixie Kong as a tag-team, similar to Zelda and Sheik.
- Dixie has a separate moveset from Diddy, but it’s still being worked on.
King K. Rool is a newcomer, the heaviest character on the roster. He is powerful and can KO light characters with 2 good Smash Attacks. His final smash has him use the blunderbuss and fire cannonballs from the top of the screen while they fly in from the sides as well.
- Gangplank Galleon is a stage.
There is a new Zelda character, although it’s kept a secret so far. The names heard most often are Tingle and Ghirahim.
- Ganondorf will be buffed, although he still retains some of C. Falcon’s moves. He can equip a sword using his Down Special.
Chrom is a Fire Emblem necomer. He wields the Falchion, and does not replace Ike.
- Chrom is expected to be revealed to celebrate the anniversary of the first Fire Emblem.
Lyn’s Assist Trophy from Brawl has been scrapped.
- King Gangrel and Aversa are the new Fire Emblem Assist Trophy. Gangrel runs around slicing with his sword, while Aversa flies above using Aversa’s Night. They are the “unexpected” Assist Trophy.
No newcomers for Yoshi or Wario.
- Wario’s overalls are now his default attire.
The Kat & Ana Assist Trophy has been scrapped.
- Ashley from WarioWare is a new Assist Trophy!
Ridley is a newcomer, and is scaled down a bit. It was a major feat on the development team.
- No new Star Fox characters.
Falco is farther away from being a Fox clone.
- Wolf is no longer a semi-clone.
Villager has a female costume.
- Mr. Resetti returns as an Assist Trophy.
Tom Nook is a new Assist Trophy. He apparently drops bells across the stage, which causes opponents to trip. (Due to Sakurai saying tripping is removed, it’s unknown if forced tripping, like this and Diddy’s bananas will return, or if only accidental tripping is removed.)
- Palutena is a newcomer, with her moves based directly off Uprising.
Magnus is a new Assist Trophy, and acts similarly to Little Mac in Brawl.
- All Pokemon veterans from Brawl return.
Mewtwo returns.
- Mewtwo and Lucario have very different movesets.
No new Kirby characters.
- Meta Knight will be revealed sometime in the summer of 2014.
No changes made to the EarthBound series.
- All misc. characters return (Mr. Game & Watch, R.O.B., Ice Climbers)
Little Mac is a newcomer. He has the look from the Punch-Out!! reboot for the Wii.
- The Male Wii Fit Trainer is indeed an alt. for Wii Fit Trainer.
Wii Fit Trainer has a butt attack. It is replaced by a headbutt for the male costume.
- King Hippo is an Assist Trophy.
The Ghosts from Luigi’s Mansion are an Assist Trophy.
- Snake returns.
Pac-Man will be the final newcomer. He is a secret character.

I photoshopped up what this leaked roster would look like, if true. The one change I made to it was adding Mii from the E3 leak:

A tip for the fake leakers: don't list which characters were "considered" or "not considered." That's an instant giveaway.

I for one would welcome leaks that spoke more about game modes and such. Even if they're 101% BS, they'll be a better read, as it'll force them to be more creative.

The other thing I'm noticing after putting it all together is that there aren't any "risky" characters.

Sakurai's rosters include wildly out of left field characters who in retrospect make a lot of sense. Wii Fit Trainer could be the only one we're getting, but with her revealed so early I'd expect another.

"Leak" rosters tend to either only pick safe bets or pick left-field choices that don't really make sense in the way Sakurai's weird picks do.
