Holy shit. That's funny.

That Square PR statement pretty much confirms it in my eyes. It's just a polite way of saying "well it might go beyond 30 fps" without downright saying "the Xbone version is inferior".

No because Devs could now also be able to frequently reach 1080P 60FPS on PS4, even for big scale games like Watchdogs etc...

With Corrinne Yu in Naughty Dog's Ice Team, I can Imagine the next uncharted being 1080P 60 fps.

Well yeah, I can understand and accept that as a valid answer. But what I was trying to get at was the gap was pretty damn wide when the XO was producing 720p games while the PS4 was consistently producing 1080p games. Now that devs have gotten the XO to be able to consistently produce 1080p games, and now we're just concentrating on which one has the better frame rate, it would seem like the gap is getting smaller.

Obviously there'll always be a gap in performance with the PS4 being in the lead. But I honestly don't see the gap getting bigger.

I'm soooo glad I became a Member right before this thread happened. I'd be scared of even looking at this thread if I were still a Junior.

What's better for XB1 fans?

720p upscaled to 1080p with 60fps?

or

1080p native with 30fps?

Probably 1080p/30fps so as to not get hit but that terrible sharpening filter although it was somehow disabled/removed from KI in a patch. Still on DR3 to my knowledge and any 3rd party game that's not native 1080p (BF4,COD, ACIV etc.)

That fear is what keeps you alive. Never lose the fear

"Both platforms offer the same outstanding Tomb Raider experience. Delivering the core Tomb Raider gameplay at native 1080p and running at 30fps was always our primary goal given the type of experience Tomb Raider is and the exploration we want players to do. Anything beyond 30fps for this version is gravy."

Next on Hello Influencers, "Gravy is overrated, who gives a shit about gravy?"

There's no reason to be afraid to be a Junior, as long as you follow all the rules and ACT like you deserve to be a Member. Anyone that judges you based on your tag isn't worth your time, anyway.

The hardware gap won't grow or shrink measurably. The PS4 and X1 have hardwired constraints, and those constraints only manifest themselves with resolution/framerate on a game-to-game basis. What you're seeing is the PS4 having superior specs and performing better without much (if any) further optimization.

A bit stupid question, hopefully it's answered

"Anything beyond 30fps for this version is gravy."

Can someone explain to me the meaning of gravy in that sentence? Is it something like bonus?

And the PS4.

There is nothing inherent in the PS4 that makes it good at 60FPS at 1080p. Every game is different.

All we know is that the PS4 > Xbone by a good margin and that is without the currently used GPGPU compute headroom where the PS4 has much higher reserves than the Xbone.

Yes, PS4 does in some cases, but it seems less apparent than the X1 so far. However games like BF4, straight up show that concessions even on the PS4 sometimes need to be made. And from a hardware standpoint isn't it better suited for 1080p? The GPU being beefier really does matter, it's more suited to handle 1080p than the X1. 1080p will be the standard overall on PS4, that's what I believe is going to happen.

OMG that gif is incredible ElTorro. The slogan at the end is perfect.

Insulting someone by calling them 'junior' is ridiculous. As if the amount of time you've spent on GAF affects the validity of your opinions.

Gravy is delicious, and so is 60fps.

Yes. They're basically saying "we reached our goal at least, if your console runs higher than that that's awesome".

What an amazing ride this thread has been. I was on the fence about buying this for my PS4 having never played it, but the news of 60fps and all the other graphical enhancements have pushed me over the edge. You win this round Square.

Could be, but I'd honestly rather have Uncharted 4 at 30fps and have Naughty Gods go completely nuts with the eye candy. Uncharted 4 should be a graphical showcase for the PS4 like Uncharted 1,2 and 3 were for the PS3.

If third party developers are nailing 1080p/60fps for PS4, it'll be interesting how first party PS4 games will perform. I imagine some games will go well above 60fps, if the game in question is a smaller title with less emphasis on effects and other visual oddities.
