Game Informer played through MGS Ground Zeroes' main mission in [1.5hrs, not rushing]

Yes, but you could spend it on a Season Pass and wait 5-6 months to enjoy the content. I think it'll do fine for what it is, but you have to get over what you paid for it. Granted some players might expect this as the actual MGSV, which will be sad if they do because I know PP will be much better.

You could buy a season pass but I wouldn't they've always been a rip off. Hell you could set fire to your money for all I care, it doesn't matter what you could do with the money, it's about value and what else that money can get you.

Mmh. I suppose it's not the same reviewer, and that can be a relevant part many times (even if it usually happens for games on Nintendo consoles, but still XD )

Very interesting Kojima interview in the issue. Basically talks about how he got into gaming and how he is stuck being the Metal Gear guy. He claims he does not want to be known as that man, he claims he doesnt have much time left cause he is 50 so he wants to write a list of all he wants to do before he dies and make sure he does it which includes writing a novel and making a movie.

He claims he likes simple stories, ironically. He said he always tries to make a simple story. He says he wont let series canon hinder him from telling the story he wants so if he has to contradict a few things he will.

There was a comparison of him and James Cameron with Aliens where that franchise was handed off after Alien and it was successful. Kojima said his situation is more like Terminator where if he left it would become a mess. He claims he has had no success in passing the torch which implies he has tried. There is a lot about Japanese culture and how he doesn't relate to any Japanese developers anymore except Platinum Games.

What I found most interesting is his talk about GTA and Konami. Remember that GTA tweet about how amazing an open world it was and how he was jealous. Well he says he is jealous of Rockstar that they are able to pump all their resources into making the game they desire. He says he can't do that, he still needs to work with Konami and partner on different projects and make sure things are balanced for Konami as a whole.

He says he just got into Breaking Bad and he is pissed cause he wasnt the one to come up with that story, he wants to tell that kind of story. He says if he pitched a story like that to Konami they would probably say no. He also loved Gravity, loved how simple it was and he says trying to create a game that simple would be hard with Konami. He says that movie really impacted him, making something out of the ordinary a big success and is jealous of it as a creator, says it stirred something in him.

He talks about how he is close friends with Guillermo Del Toro, says he would like to work with him one day.
Can't he just quit?

Someone I'm sure would hire him to put out that kinda stuff

On topic of the length, I'm waiting for the double pack

Anyone who pays full price for this glorified demo is a fool who should be publically tagged, mocked and ridiculed.

Mock us all you want to. We are nomads. Wanderers. We have no "well respected" internet community or justifiable ideology. The MGS fanbase is my life. My family. This series is our heaven. Our hell.

Less than two hours for $30?

Very interesting, thank you. So yeah Kojima is like a slave for Konami, he wants to break free but he just can't. I feel bad for him :(

I don't know much about his situation - why can't he? Did he sign a lifetime contract or something? There are a million other studios that would give him total freedom to do what he wants with his reputation.

I guess this silences the people that would get mad if you mentioned GZ was probably going to be short. :p

I'm definitely waiting until it's cheap. I'm not desperate enough for an MGS game that I'd pay that much for something that will only last as long as a movie. Give me a movie rental price and we'll talk.

No, indie experiences such as that I would wait for a sale personally. But at least that indie game is a complete package. This is the opening act of another separate $60 purchase.

This is really the biggest turn-off for me, particularly since you know that they will release this alongside PP as a complete package down the line or maybe even at launch as part of an absurdly priced CE.

He sounds bitter. I wish he was happier with his success, the man has had many flashes of brilliance.

He has great taste.

The mission is finding two people in 2 different places and carrying them to your helicipter. 5 mins sounds pretty damn fast, I bet it's pretty challenging to get it that low. You can call in your helicopter to different landing spots so that might help.

So basically it's a tech demo. I read a little about what it has, but oooooooh...
They're talking about side missions and etc. So if it has a little more content then just that I'd be fine. Lousy YouTube and Twitch are going to make that a living hell, spoilers everywhere.

Just give me Phantom Pain dang IT.

Interesting, thanks for posting this.

It's funny because he quite publicly passed the torch to Shigenobu Matsuyama on stage at E3 when Rising was first revealed. I assume the total destruction of that project prior to Platinum getting on board pretty much ruined all faith he ever had in letting a new generation of devs make Metal Gear.

I would love to see a developer like Kojima work in the indie scene, although it's contrary to the big blockbuster cinematic games that he makes. The guy genuinely has weird and eccentric ideas that are unfortunately blocked due to his loyalty to Konami.

Konami should let him do Silent Hill, he could do amazing things for the franchise.

But yeah, Kojima is being held hostage by his own success. He tried to pass the torch after MGS3 and it failed horribly, he tried to pass to torch with Rising and that too was a colossal error in judgement. That video interview with the staff right after they handed it over to Platinum is brutal.

Thread title seems incredibly misleading. They said they had a hands-on time of 4 HOURS on the game. Nowhere do they say that the game RUNS for 4 hours.
That's how I read it. It just sounds like GI only got to play the game for 4 hours not beat the entire game in 4 hours.

There must be something about this game that elavate it above a gloryfied demo, right?

Something in the GI article mention how the side missions work and how they are tied into the game?

No developer is stupid enough to release a game in this state for this price. It will hurt them.

Isn't Paz an optional objective? I thought the achievement said rendezvous with chico or paz

welp good thing I used $20 Amazon credit on the PS3 version and therefore only paying $10 for it (the physical copy).

Still a really shitty amount of playtime but people were definitely calling it out as being the Tanker of TPP. Good lord were they right (based on this info, anyway) not that I didn't have the same suspicions.

But I also have to have some skepticism because of what happened with journalists posting about Rising's length and... 3D World's length. People get obsessive over length but if there's plenty of replay value (collectibles that unlock shit, difficulty settings, a decent chunk of side missions) I think I'll be happy paying the $10 out of my pocket for some early MGSV.

Isn't there a thing in Japan where 'small' stuff is all the rage? Remember reading it about the X1 and PS4 over there and how they prefer small gadgets. It might just be a culture thing. Small stuff.

But the great thing is that, in 4 hours, they could have beaten the game...twice! Not just once!

Read the title / the rest of the thread. It's less-than-2-hours long.

First the PSP games with their half-fat presentation and awkward controls, but non-canon/canon (and goofy character doubles) story we're supposed to keep up with.

And now this which is probably even more important if you want to enjoy The Phantom Pain to its fullest.

It's like they're deliberately making the story hard to follow with less accessible games.

But didn't you see the interview Kojima likes simple stories :s

WTF Catlevania Lords of Shadows 2 got a 6?!?!??!?!?!?!?

Reading now.

Yeah, details, this is thread worthy.

Where does it say anything about having more content between GZ and TPP. It says none of that. It also never mentions hard mode though we have heard the game has it from other sources.

"How consumers interact with games has evolved over the years. Post-Launch DLC, multiplayer map packs, expansions, etc. have all become the standard model in prolonging consumer engagement while simultaneously driving topline revenue. Konami and Kojima are trying to operate within this evolving business model, but at the same time ratain the Metal Gear Solid identity."

So, they are either talking that they will introduce downloadable content packages, or that GZ represents the "new way" of interacting with the customers. They talk that "story" is one of the main reasons what makes MGS great, so maybe GZ is indeed the only content that we will get between now and TPP.

I'm ok with this.

As I get older, I'm really really pining for more short experiences. I'd much rather a short full experience, than a long, drawn out padded one. Which to be honest, most games feel like these days.

Do you read shorter books too?

Not trying to be an ass. But that's what this sentiment sometimes sounds like. Everything should be bite-sized cause so many if us are busy. But that leads to iOS games. Why not simply pause after 2 hours?

Again, I really do get what you're saying, but I am a little confused by this impulse to need completion within a short period of time.

A 6 from game informer must mean the game is amazing and probably too hard for them.
That's what I'm hoping. They didn't rate Metal Gear Rising or TW101 too highly, and those games are AMAZING. They just require you to learn their mechanics and exercise some skill.

I know him as the Boktai and Zone of the Enders guy.

Can't he just quit?

That's pretty much what Inafune did. Got tired of Capcom jerking him around, quit, and started 2 companies. Kojima probably has enough influence and money to do something similar, but I bet Konami is paying him the big bucks to keep him on staff for Metal Gear.

Keep in mind that MGS2 was supposed to be the final game in the series.
