Hmmm getting ready to watch the movie on the 23rd.

Did Buried already see a release date? I loved the trailer, really wanted to see it, and then neither heard or saw anything after that.

Yeah, it came out last month.

I saw it last week, enjoyed it a lot. Boyle is just so good at his job. Franco is amazing too. I found the
amputation
scene to be far less graphic and disturbing than the hype had let me to believe, although the
severing the nerve
part was painful, the sound effect they used was really effective. But ultimately the
drinking piss
was far more unpleasant!

i thought the sound used for the
bone breaking
was perfect and made a lot of people in the theater cringe. overall that entire scene wasnt nearly as bad as i had heard. definitely put you in the guys head though...geez.

Seeing a free advance screening for my area, on Monday. Can't wait. Anyone been to one of these Fox Searchlight free screenings before? It said to show up earlier, because they're over booking. How early should I show up?

Like an hour and a half because the lowest form of people ever will camp all night to see a free movie.

Just opened by me. I may stop to see it Monday or Tuesday... But I may just wait instead since I really dislike that theater.

Was the scene really that graphic? I was actually let down by it(looking at it that way).

I watched this film today. The amputation scene was definitely very hard to watch. I'm not sure what to think of the film, though I would recommend it.

It's really exaggerated how bad it is. It's not THAT bad at all. Its more the sound design than anything.

Saying "it wasn't THAT bad" does the scene a complete disservice. It's not the scene that is hard to watch and tough to listen to, but the culmination of thoughts and events that led to that moment make it harder to experience. Boyle did an extraordinary job setting up the audience for this moment. Being placed right there with aron while he's having these hallucinations and his brain is kinda taking the "death spiral" so to speak, we're taking that same trip with him. We learn so much about him in that short amount of time that feel as if we're helping him through this. So when he starts it's not that this graphic scene is unfolding right in front of us, but it's that he's finally fighting for everything that we want him to fight for.

Maybe those people who fainted towards the end felt completely engrossed by the film and it affected them physically. Personally I left the theater with a huge surge of adrenalin. Everything after the movie ended felt vivid and jaunting. It could be that it didn't affect you in that same way and that's why the scene didn't come off as "graphic" to you as it did to those who fainted and to myself.

This film and Buried are the only 2 films I can say without a doubt, left me with something after the credits started rolling. Buried made me question how exactly I should be leading my life and made me appreciate what I have around me...The same lessons could be applied to 127 Hours, but I'm not sure right now. I'll have to gather my thoughts and write them down at some point because it's not often a film can affect me physically like this did tonight.

I was talking specifically about the the graphic nature on screen. Yes i was affected by the journey itself, but not in a way that would make me pass out.

What's interesting is that, stylistically speaking, I'd say that this actually has the most in common with Trainspotting, if we're speaking of Boyle's work; the way that he used the music to give the narrative an energy and a forward momentum was really interesting.

Shit, I have tickets to this tonight in LAs Vegas.

I don't think I can go.

Anyone here live in Vegas and want free tix?

I saw this last night. Holy crap, I thought it was great. Probably my third favorite of the year, just behind TSN and Inception. I Boyle, Beaufoy and Franco did a fantastic job at making the audience connect with Ralston. I was pretty moved by parts of the film. I loved the style of the film too, it was flashy, without being too flashy. The use of splitscreen and music was very well done, IMO.

No one is seeing this? It's playing in Sacramento, CA now. 2 hours and counting. 1st movie since Inception I've been excited to see.

Pretty entertaining considering everyone in the theater knows exactly what happens. Visually the movie is entertaining thanks to some really cool camera tricks that sorta reminded me of the cool trick shots in Three Kings. It's not going to get the huge following that Slumdog got, even if they are marketing the film as some sort of inspirational Rocky film (I didn't get that vibe at all). It's just a well made survival movie that elevates itself from the confines of the singular setting and well known outcome. Danny Boyle continues to do magic with what seems to be a very small budget.

Just saw it. It was a wonderful, wonderful movie. I teared up a bit during a few scenes.

The arm scene wasn't as bad as i thought it would be. I think i imagined it being way worse. The
sound effects with the nerve ending
was a really nice touch. I squirmed in my seat when that happened.

James Franco has got the best actor award on Lockdown. No other role this year has come close to his.

I almost passed out in a movie theater whilst watching The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. The first person eye sowing got in my head, especially thanks to the sound design. I really want to see 127 hours later, but I'm too afraid to see it in theaters. :lol

They are definitely both an absolute must-see. I'd go with Black Swan though, if only for the added bonus of the Tree of Life trailer. :D

Oh, I saw the trailer for Black Swan in front of this, that looks fucking great. I also got some...sci-fi/supernatural vibes? Hmm.

Saw it and loved it. The arm scene wasn't as bad as I feared with the exception of the part with the
nerve
. Holy crap that was intense, especially when he
finally goes for it and it stretches out instead of just getting cut
. Still makes me uncomfortable to think about.

Bah, this isn't coming out here until January.
Why do they keep dangling it in front of us, within arm's reach.

Maybe if you cut your arm off they'll dangle it within your other's reach!

Same here, and I'm usually not squeamish.

Saw this movie friday night and really liked it. I though Franco was fucking fantastic. He played the role perfectly in every way possible. god damn though were some of those scenes intense.

I got the "For Your Consideration" brochure in the mail yesterday, thought this pic was pretty cool:

Saw this today complete with an appearance by an ambulance at our theater, thought it was great! Franco was excellent, especially when his mental state would spiral because of desperation.

To try to add to what wenis said. Some people will respond as if they had seen Franco cut his arm off in real life, or something close to it. It's also worth saying that even if one person is as involved as the next that they won't necessarily have a similar physical response, there's a threshold that everyone has with a realistic depiction of an event like this or watching a bad real life injury. I've certainly seen worse injuries by far in other movies but this is the only one I felt a bit light-headed after seeing. That's also something that has happened to me in real life when I've seen a really bad injury, haven't been desensitized enough yet unfortunately. I would watch it again though. If anyone has a history of nausea or being light headed in response to seeing an injury be careful, maybe you'll respond to it, maybe not, but if you do make sure to stay seated or lay your ass down when it happens. :lol

I feel bad for the guy in my theater that passed out though 'cause he missed the end of the movie completely. :(

Buried? Terrifying? have we been watching the same movie lads?

it was sort of thrilling with him being buried alive, but mobile kill lot of the underlying tension...

Can't wait for this though.:D

Saw this about two weeks ago. WOW! Really quite stunning -- Franco was incredible. I was very surprised at how gruesome "the scene" was... the worst part was just seeing the gaping hole for such an extended period of time. Got a bit misty eyed there at the end when he is rescued.

Saw this last night (Cambridge, UK).

Thought I didn't like it halfway through, but it really came together.

Boyle does a whole load of stuff that sounds like it *should* be crap, but pulls it off so well you don't mind.

This, Black Swan and Toy Story 3 are the best films this year for me, still to see King's Speech (Franco's competition for best actor?) and True Grit though.
