2007 Wii lineup

the year is clearly not empty, but it seems that all big releases will be in Fall/Winter

I would not put Hammer and Wii motorsports in the "big" list until more is known. They could be as important as MArio or as Nba courtside 2002.

If Eternal Darkness counts as a "big" release for the GC (it subsquently sold like 100k) I think Project: Hammer and Wii Motor Sports warrant a mention.

But like I said, I think if you liked the NES/SNES/GB/DS ... I think you will find the Wii will be to your liking as well, because in the long haul, if it continues to do well in Japan, it's going to get some kick ass projects from the Japanese dev community on top of the Marios/Zeldas/Star Foxs/Donkey Kongs/F-Zeros/Mario Karts/Pikmins/etc. etc. etc. that you're going to get from Nintendo.

Winning Japan or even doing well in Japan will have a huge impact on the quality of the overall Wii library.

My purchases will likely include:

Wario Ware Smooth Moves (for crazy multiplayer)
Wii Play (mainly for Wii Remote)
Bust-A-Move Bash! (budget price and multiplayer fun)
Mario Party 8 (multiplayer)
Super Mario Galaxy (for obvious reasons)
Super Smash Bros. Brawl (multiplayer fun preferably with items, thanks)
Super Paper Mario (if it comes out)
No More Heroes (Suda51 will make this his best game yet)
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers (multiplayer with friends; liked the original)

I'll probably have to trim that list down a little bit.

If I have a regular group of friends to play videogames with, I'd be happy with Wii's list. Unfortunately, that isn't the case, so I'm going have to say that for me it looks rather disappointing.

the third party developed stuff is uninteresting imo, and that also goes for the games already released, which is a shame because that new console buzz is still with me and i want to play some new stuff :(

however, the first party developed line-up is all kinds of awesome!

can't wait for:

mario galaxy
fire emblem god
metroid prime 3
super paper mario
smash bros brawl
wii music
big brain academy

and i'm really hoping for, in 07:
wii motor sports
animal crossing
nintendogs
more wii ___ titles using mii's
hal's gc kirby game reworked for wii

if this line-up happens, for me, it could be the greatest year in videogames ever! :D

so far, i think third party is something nintendo is still struggling with, and just seems to be shovelware for the most part. not that i think they're going to need it for wii to a huge success, if it's going to happen it'll be because of first party sw, but it would be nice to have something to fill in the gaps in the first party line-up.

Absolutely pathetic part deux
I predict that this year will be huge for 1st party software but in 2008 or in late 2007, 3rd parties will rise to the occasion. Now I just need one of those pictures of the guy who likes child porn from Ed Wood.

Agreed.

Wii 1st party will get things done in 2007 for the inept 3rd parties to have a template for making good Wii games (2008).

One thing that I find interesting is that Nintendo didn't kick off with a Mario game, but instead opted for a more mature title (Zelda).

In fact, it seems we won't see a Mario game until the end of the year.

Nintendo am trying to kill "kiddie" image?

Indeed. Elebits, Trauma Center, The Sims and No more heroes are the only things remotely interesting that third parties are doing. I also hope that either more games are announced trough this year, or that third parties start catching the Wii bandwagon in some years (as it happened with the DS).

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
If I buy a Wii I will get:

- Super Paper Mario
- Wii Music

- Dragon Quest Swords

Mario will probably give the system a boost, as NSMB did for DS.

They had Wii Sports ready for the non-gamer and Zelda for their fanbase, so there also wasn't a need for mario at launch.

Are you serious?

The release of Zelda at launch has nothing to do with killing an image (the image they are aiming for with Wii doesn't even really fit in with Zelda). It just so happens that the completion of the game coincided with the Wii launch (that is, the completion of the game was close enough to the launch of Wii that it made sense to release it on that platform). Mario's new game simply isn't as far along. Both are iconic Nintendo franchises that would appear regardless.

must buys:

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
The Sims Wii
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Mario Party 8
Super Mario Strikers: Charged
Fire Emblem
Animal Crossing Wii

shit. thats a lot. considering that any of the others i will buy once i get good impressions about the game.....

i have a feeling i'm going to be really let down with my wii the next 6-8 months. i sort of feel like i came to party that was pumped up to be amazing and then you get there and its kind of lame.

Yay, more emo shit. If you aren't looking forward to this year's line-up, then this is not the right machine for you. You see, the Wii is geared towards two very specific audiences: the Nintendo enthusiast and the non-gaming crowd, games that "everyone" can play.

You should've seen this coming from the very beginning, even more so when Nintendo has taken extreme measures to communicate their mantra all across the globe. I suggest you try other options and leave us alone. Okthxbye.

welcome to the post launch drought. this must be a new experience for many of our european cousins (the ones that didn't get a 360 that is).

i think it's a pretty solid first full year line up.

wario ware is awesome if you have the friends to play it with (otherwise wait for a price drop... still awesome but not deep enough in single player to excuse it). i think i've already clocked over 20 hours put together on it.

Fire Emblem, Battalion Wars 2, Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros. Brawl, and Kirby. Maybe Sonic if it turns out to be decent.

I got to admit, thats not a whole lot. I might have to wait another year before considering a Wii purchase.

Reminds me of Gamecube so far, some good stuff but not enough original stuff/3rd party stuff. MP3 will save the first half of the year hopefully, although to be fair I'm having some fun with WarioWare right now. One of the problems for me I think is that Smash Brothers really doesn't do much for me, where for others it's the biggest game of the year. I think the Wii need more action/adventure games stat.

While true, it's still notable that launch had basically no games even featuring Mario or related characters (unless you count VC downloads)... that's never happened for a Nintendo platform before. Even platforms without an offical "Super Mario" got franchise related stand-ins like Wario Land 2 or Luigi's Mansion.

SFC and N64 were both delayed to coincide with their Mario releases, so it's not like Nintendo couldn't have done the same for Wii either really...

SSX Blur
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Battalion Wars 2
Disaster: Day of Crisis
Project HAMMER
No More Heroes
Super Paper Mario
BioHazard Umbrella Chronicles

That is a pretty solid line-up this year. Especially figuring the amount of third party games I have on my list. It's going to be a good year.

... You bought a Wii and sold it within... 3 months?

What. Seriously. What.

The stuff I'm interested in right now for the Wii are Smash Bros., Fire Emblem and Kororinpa (sp?). Not much else interests me for the moment and thats why I'm holding off right now. However, I'm a total Fire Emblem (and SRPG) whore.

had one reserved for launch and bought it to try out and for Zelda. No good games on the horizon, they didnt release component cables here, no one else i know has one so no online multiplayer ment it would sit idle, I thought Zelda was a bit letdown, Virtual Console was overpriced and the fact that I could sell the console 2nd hand for a profit ment there was no reason to keep it.

Yes, but I do not believe for a second that it was part of a strategy. If a Mario title had been ready for release, I'm sure they would have released it on or near launch. Mario is still a HUGE draw and they know this (look at sales of NSMB).

So basically no AAA titles until fall/next winter, with only two or three worthwhile AA titles in the meantime?!
Does Nintendo want to lose?

I have a strange feeling gaf is looking at the wrong games. If nintendo is going to lose then I don't have a clue what ms and sony are going to do. I suggest that many of you go back and read some post ds launch treads and also the mc threads after nintendogs release. No doubt the market has changed and your release list should reflect this change. You may not care for much of what nintendo is releasing, but the system isn't looking to feed the current ps3/xobx360 userbase. Nintendo knows that if they do well enough they will automatically get certain franchises and get most(a 3rd perhaps) of the ps3/xbox360 userbase(that aren't gfx whores) to buy the system later.

But there is no Wii Nintendogs in the works and even if they announce it soon it will not release until next fall at the earliest. And the other great casual "nongame" animal crossing is not out until then either.

Nintendogs was up and running on GC at some point, but miyamoto decided not to release it and then the ds came along. I'm not just looking at one game like nintendogs(since that came out of no where). I imagine when wiisports is no longer bundled with the wii it will show up on the top 10 charts for months after and maybe longer. Like I said the market changed and one with the most variety/quality of games that feeds that market is going to be rewarded.

But those games weren't big franchises before the DS exploded. Nintendo doesn't need sequels to these games at the moment, they have other things for this year like Wii motorsports and Wii music, and why not that scubadiving thing.

The thing with brain training/nintendogs/cooking navi kind of games is that you we didn't really knew they were going to be so huge.

Since when is a AA title a let down? When the **** did game scoring get so screwed up?

Sure... but since Zelda was ready anyway, they probably decided not to delay (a la SFC/N64) or rush a quickie Mario stand in or port (a la GBC/GBA/GC/DS). We could've gotten something along the lines of Luigi's Mansion 2 or Sunshine DX rather easily... but they consciously went with Zelda instead.

Fire Emblem and DQ Swords. The only reason I bought the Wii in the first place (besides of course the lurvly Trauma Centre). <3

Tell the truth, you bought it for Metroid Prime 3: Corruption!

Wii health pack/fitness is in the works, im pretty sure that it will sell more than
GTA. Halo or any other non Nintendo franchise, maybe even pokemon sales. A lot of people are fat these days, and these type of games get a lot of media coverage.

Wii Music, Wii MotorSports need a bigger presence. Most people who played Wii Sports would say it was much better than expected and these titles could have the same effect. Also what about The BIGS? Not much is known about it but it's as important as Madden was at launch.

The 1st party lineup is very impressive for 2007, I don't think anyone can deny that. It's hard to get hyped though as who knows how well they'll play and if they take advantage of the Wii's benefits. 3rd party is gaining ground but the big problem with that is most companies are putting offshoots of big franchises rather than a major, numbered title. This doesn't mean they'll end up worse games but it shows where 3rd parties are putting most of their effort into (as of now). I really want to see more Capcom support and I hope the Inafune title is a great one.

Super Paper Mario is definitely something to keep out eyes on. It has the potential to be insanely fun and awesome.....AAA all the way.

.....or it will be too short and simple and will suck.
