Paper Mario Color Splash (ok now I'm reaching)
Bolded everything I purchased that was on that list, and I know I bought many more. What a fantastic year, I loved it.

It's more like he put some bad or slightly worse games in place of better ones. Like Furi vs. Hyper Light Drifter. SMT IV Apoc was cool, but TMS#FE was better. Pokemon Go is basically planking.

In line with the JRPG tilt of your post, I'd also mention Stranger of Sword City is one of the best games of the year.
It was early in the morning lol

This year I played:

Final Fantasy Explorers (3DS)
Trails of Cold Steel (Vita)
Stranger of Sword City (Vita)
Bravely Second (3DS)
Twilight Princess HD (WiiU )
Fire Emblem Fates Birthright, Conquest, Revelations (3DS)
Adventures of Mana (Vita)
Monster Hunter Generations(3DS)
FE# TMS (WiiU)
Darkest Dungeon (Vita)
Dragon Quest VII (3DS)
Trails of Cold Steel II (Vita)
SMTIV Apocalypse (3DS)

and the only one that felt a touch middle-of-the-road was FF Explorers in January. Great year for RPGs on the portables.

Not to me. Was an ok year and The Last Guardian was it's saving grace for me.

Not to say it's the only good game, but the only game that might make me actually care about posting in GOTY voting thread.

I think not so great year...

The Last Guardian - garbage
Uncharted 4 - meh
Dishonored 2 - same s...
Final Fantasy XV - garbage
Deus Ex Mankind Divided - same s...
The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine - Its a DLC, not a game...
Call of Duty Infinite Warfare - same s...
Mirror's Edge Catalyst - garbage
Gears of War 4 - same s...
Mafia III - garbage
The Division - garbage
Hitman Season 1 - meh
Far Cry Primal - garbage
Dead Rising 4 - meh
World of Final Fantasy - meh
Quantum Break - garbage
Street Fighter V - garbage
Ratchet and Clank - same s...
ReCore - garbage

It was decent. There certainly seemed to be a lot. I liked last year better though. Life Is Strange, Bloodborne, and Until Dawn are all right up there as my favorite games this gen. Rocket League was awesome too until I realized how terrible I was at it and never played it again.

HLD is better than Furi by a wide margin.

This has been my favorite year in a long time. Vr alone has made it that for me personally, and now I'm catching up on a lot of new stuff from the holidays.

Did you buy all of those only to find them 'garbage' or 'meh'? Wow. Rough year for you, expensive too.

Vied for a tag related to cocks, so here it is.
No mention of Planet Coaster yet in this whole thread. That's gotta be in that list imo.

It definitely has. I'm much less hyped for 2017. Many of the big sequels people are going apeshit for are things/series I don't care for. Still plenty for me to play, and plenty of backlog to work through. Will be a busy year work wise anyway so need to do less gaming so I guess it works out.

Here's what I bought/played through from the OPs list:

Overwatch
The Last Guardian
Uncharted 4
Dishonored 2
Forza Horizon 3
Tittyfall 2
Inside
Pokemon Go (c'mon now, it deserves a spot)
Final Fantasy XV
Dark Souls 3
The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine
Doom
Mirror's Edge Catalyst
Gears of War 4
Firewatch
Civilization VI
Abzu
Quantum Break
Street Fighter V
Ratchet and Clank
Telltale's Batman

There's another handful that are on my list to check out down the road if I get time too.

I agree, this has been an outstanding year. Last year was as well. Which is weird, being a Nintendo fan, because they've had such a small part in how much enjoyment I've been getting from games lately.

Doom, Hitman, The Last Guardian, The Witness and Uncharted 4 are the five best games I've played this year. Some years I don't even play one game as good as any of those, let alone five!

It's the 3 year gap tradition from the last two decades.

1995, 1998, 2001, 2004, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016.

2017 should break that and be a top-3 year ever if not a lot gets delayed.

Holy crud, Mirrors Edge Catalyst, Far Cry Primal?! What a time to be alive!!

If people were a little more judicious in selecting these types of lists, they might actually make a compelling case.

OP is an idiot, Quantum Break sucks and Gears of War 4 has a boring campaign. Mirror's Edge and Zero Time Dilemma were both disappointments too.

What's next, Dynasty Warriors?

Go fuck yourself OP.

With a cactus.

Have to admit, really didn't know Mirror's Edge got released.

Wasn't there any hype?
Can't remember any threads about it.

Good year for games, definitely. To me though, there hasn't been anything earth-shattering (to be fair I haven't finished Dishonored 2 or The Last Guardian) like a Last Of Us. Sure, that doesn't mean it wasn't a good year but I'm one of those people who dictate great years by life-changing games, and this hasn't been one. Still good times though.

Yes, it's been a pretty good year overall. But I cannot call a year with almost nothing of note from Nintendo "one of the best years for video games".

The first half of 2017 looks better than the previous three or four years combined for me personally.

Of the ones in your quote I have purchased:
Uncharted 4
Far Cry Primal

I have played:
Overwatch (beta)
Doom (demo)
Battlefield 1 (beta)
Ratchet and Clank

I guess I just don't game as much as I used to; I've not even heard of many of the games you posted. Kind of makes me sad.

Yeah, I totally agree with the OP. Lately I was in a mood for end of the year roundups (not surprisingly) and was blown away by how much games I enjoy (or still plan to buy) this year.

The three distinctive things that made this year great for me were:

A new wave of indie games with bigger production values: Firewatch, Superhot, The Witness, No Man's Sky (I know, I know)

A group of games I waited many years for, that finally were released: Uncharted 4, The Last Guardian, Final Fantasy XV, Owlboy

A strong set of AAA titles: Doom, Titanfall 2, Battlefield 1, Gears Of War 4, Forza Horizon 3

Amazing year.

It's ok.

I really liked:

The Witness
Let it Die
Stardew Valley
Dark Souls 3
Doom

Not so much on everything else.

I did like No Man's Sky better than most people, but only for about 15 hours.

Dunno, but all the coverage I saw pointed to it being middling at best and didn't inspire me to lay out any cash. I assume being relegated to the Origin ghetto also isn't helping it with Steam users.

Yeah it's been a great year, closing it off with FFXV and TLG felt so good.

The beginning of next year is looking nuts too.

It was okay, a lot of good/decent games but nothing near close Witcher 3 / Bloodborne level.

Next year has RDR2, Zelda, ME Andromeda, Persona 5 (for the majority of us) and Horizon between others.

2016 will be crushed

...but RDR2 will be most probably delayed

It was ok, but a year without a AAA Nintendo Killer Release can't be the best year of games ever.

Also a lot of mediocre and boring titles on the list of OP.
It reads like "just list everything with metacritic above 80".

You're the one trying to convince me. A list of ten top notch games is going to be far more convincing than a list with 30 games, some of which are top notch and a lot of which are mediocre.
Lmao

People like different games, and a lot of these round out lists that contain mainstays like Uncharted 4 and Overwatch.

Use your head. It's not hard.

Why can't it? Nintendo fans man. The worst.

Also, it does, but on purpose, because I haven't played everything here and people like different games.

2016 has been a really good year, but for me personally 2015 was even better. I got Rise of the Tomb Raider, Tearaway Unfolded, Ori and the Blind Forest, Fallout 4 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. I could add Halo 5 and The Nathan Drake Collection there too.

Some disappointments too, as always. Quantum Break this year, The Order: 1886 last year.

Looking forward to 2017, oh yeah.
