52 Games. 1 Year. 2018.

30: The Gardens Between - 4/5 - Gameplay and puzzles is probably a 3/5, but the presentation, style and tone coupled with the fact it's unique, raise it one higher.

Game Pass strikes again. I've played quite a few awesome puzzle platformers through Game Pass this year. I wonder what effect (I think I mean effect, not affect) this has on the industry if I can get all my puzzle-platformer goodness through Game Pass?

Really looking forward also to that duck-pig-rpg game coming out today (?) on Game Pass. (I can appear pretty flippant at times, I don't mean to, so... the game is called Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden and my it looks awesome!)

Then Strange Brigade.

Wonder what I should play this Christmas? Last year was Gears of War and Yooka-Laylee.

54. Dragon Ball FighterZ (PS4): So I remember posting about this game before it was announced being more than hyped about it. Got it day one and loved it, but it was sly of being perfect. Honestly i wanted more of what Hyper Dragon Ball Z was in the quality that FighterZ is in. But that doesn't make this game bad in anyway, it works amazingly, looks beautiful and probably lands in my top 10 fighting games. What I'm mostly reviewing tho, is the story mode of the game. Now Ima go ahead and say, you're more than likely to enjoy the story if you're a DB fan. I had a friend that's more than less than that, and he pretty just bum rushed the story skipping all the cutscenes after watching the less than interesting beginning premise of the game. Now as a fan myself, i found the story to be dumb fun with awesome lil extra fan service, such as everyone getting together (even the villains) just to shit on Yamcha. I grinded a good amount, for the extra scenes, levels, tried to guess the special battle links between characters and enjoyed them. The actual gameplay of the story tho, is similar to Dragon Ball Budokai 2 board game system, but not as enjoyable. I often found myself getting bored of the brain dead A.I. and would put the story with several months in between. But this doesn't the overall game itself, still awesome and i can only hope for more to come.

55. Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories (PS4): Well I played this game with certain expectations, kinda hoping it was a card game... but its not. Its Kingdom Hearts with a card based attack system... and I hated it. Well at first at least, it seemed confusing and inconvenient during fights. After a couple of hours of progress, i understood the system a lil more and found out how to cheat it a bit to brute force through the story. The music and the art is amazing like every other Kingdom Hearts of course. The main selling point of this game is the story, while not amazing, its answers many questions and has some more realistic tones in it, such as the main character feeling more than just one main emotion throughout most of the game. There's also Reverse/Rebirth, the other side of the story where you control another character who I would say has the better story, and kinda better battle system with its own flaws. Its really hard to recommend this game to people to continue the story of the series, when I could just say to watch it on YouTube and get the story that way, but if you could get past at least hour 4 withstanding the gameplay, just blast through it with some cheap sleights and enjoy the story, otherwise just watch it instead.

56. Resident Evil 2 (PS1): So this game is 20 years, with a remake on the way... and it still holds up! If i were to be completely honest, i say i love the Resident Evil series... but my only experiences were 1/REmake, 5, and 7, along with Survivor and Umbrella Chronicles. So as this being my first time playing this game... this is probably my 2nd favorite RE game and probably one of the best survival horror games I have played. The horror still stands strong, the item management and weapons are fun, the music is awesome, especially the save room music! Playing this game got me even more hyped for the REmake... but honestly i wish it was a true remake like how the first REmake was. I miss old RE! Fixed camera angles, tank controls, etc! But nevertheless the excitement still stirs within me. If I were to recommend this game, I would say the best way to play this game in order is Leon A/Claire B then Claire A/Leon B. That way you're used to the controls and the way this game is played by the time you play the best story. But if you wanna just get the best story out of the way just do Claire A/Leon B I guess.

57. Mirror's Edge (Xbox 360): While this game is freaking beautiful to look at it... i freaking suck at it. Which i wont count to much against it, because the art and music makes up a good amount of the cool things of this game. The game is just parkour and speed run porn, that feels awesome if you're good at it, which i said earlier I'm not. There are guns in here and they feel terrible to use and slow the game down a good amount... and i believe that was the point, because this game feels better when your running at top speed, drop kicking fools as you're disarming their friends in slow motion. So if this is something you're into, go for it, but if not, just take a little bit of your time to look at the concept art of the city and the characters while you listen to Still Alive from this game.

60. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES) - 10/10 Still incredibly fun and still amazing in every single way. Hard to find any faults in this game as it completely holds up after all of these years. The challenge can be tough but it is fair. Now to see if OoT holds up, as that and Wind Waker were tied for my favorite Zelda games.

61. Syndicate (PS3) - 8/10 This game was a hell of a lot of fun. I have had the game for years and figured it would be a passable quick beat to clear the backlog. Instead I ended up loving every second of it. It was just a blast to play and the mechanics were so fun. Would love to see them continue this, though I doubt it will ever happen. They probably didn't need to use the Syndicate license on this and it probably only confused any intended audience. Go play it, it should be cheap. Hopefully it gets added to the XONE backwards list.

62. Red Dead Revolver (PS4) - 7/10

Fun but very basic. I haven't played any of the Red Dead games so I wanted to start at the beginning. After playing it...not sure it mattered at all. Just random levels with random characters leading up to a final duel. The dueling system was awful and felt more like luck to win.

63. Sonic Rush (DS) - 7/10

Pretty decent Sonic game outside of a few frustrating issues. The ability to fall to your death happened way too often. Later levels had me memorizing where to go just to ensure I didn't go too fast. The trick system was kind of neat. Hoping Sonic Rush Adventure is more polished. Not as good as the classics but much better than the 3D output that I have played thus far.

50. Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age: 10/10, finished 11/26/18
I haven't played any of the Dragon Quest games before. In the midst of my Octopath play through I decided to pick this one up on a whim to see what all the fuss was about, and I very quickly put it to the side because two turn-based games at the same time seemed a bit much. I picked it back up late last month and I've devoted close to every evening this month just getting lost in this game. I was completely blown away. I guess it's easier to list the things I wasn't too crazy about: #1 is definitely the music with a bullet. After the beautiful orchestration in the intro, the rest of the game's music is incredibly dull and by hour 80 it really started to be grating to the ears. My complaint isn't with the fact that it's chip tune because I know sampled instruments CAN sound good, but I just don't think this was a particularly good composition. It seemed so disjointed from the rest of the game and this is easily the thing I'm most salty about. The only other minor thing I lament in the game is the pep-up system. It's a bit of a vague system from the onset and the triggers for activating them are even more vague, until late game at least. It just seemed a little too random in my opinion and the only reason I mention it is because some side-quests involved two or more characters to perform a certain pep action in battle and trying to get all those characters to synchronize their peps was quite difficult at times. I think a generic bar akin to something like limit breaks would have saved a lot of frustration. Aside from these two points I have trouble finding much else that I didn't like about the game, and the good outweighs the bad by a large margin. I absolutely loved it to bits and as of now it's my GOTY. I'm not sure how it stands up to other DQ games for the long-time fans, but I'd love to check out some other games in the series in the future if anyone has any recommendations!

51. kuso: 9/10, finished 12/01/18
kuso was one of those impulse buy games where I immediately fell in love with its charm just from watching the trailer on the eshop. The beautiful blend of simple visuals, a subtle but effective soundtrack, and a difficulty curve that challenged my platforming skills. Before going in I thought I was pretty decent at platforming, but very quickly kuso crushed that confidence and I was left bashing my head against jumps and since you're able to manually create checkpoints, I think I literally created checkpoints after every little leap. I should note I played through the kuso levels of the game 3 times and I played the "love" levels once. My first run had an abysmal score and I wasn't satisfied with it, so I wanted to improve. The second run went much smoother and I found myself using less and less checkpoints. By the third time through I wanted to challenge myself even further and not use any checkpoints and ended up succeeding after what felt like an evening of hell that I willingly put myself through. Great, pure platforming bliss and if that's your speed - I can't recommend kuso enough.

52. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (World of Light): finished 12/10/18
Here it is, the flagship title everyone including me was waiting for this year! I've been a huge Smash fan since the first game so it felt pretty appropriate to end the year with this game's adventure mode. From the first touch it was immediately evident how much better this game felt than Smash 4. So returning in this game was an adventure mode similar to what Brawl had with the subspace emissary, a game mode that I loved and I felt was sorely missing from 4. It served as a nice, casual way to unlock all the characters before I took to online/competitive play. A couple days removed from it I don't think the World of Light was "better" than Subspace, but I thought it had its own charm. The love and creativity that was poured into all the spirits in this game to make them as accurate to the material they're referencing is astounding. I was never bored by World of Light because almost every battle felt like an adventure in itself simply admiring spirit battles like Dr. Wily where you had to defeat 8 mega-mans, symbolizing the robot masters before taking on Dr. Mario who was playing Wily himself. A true love letter to all franchises involved in this series. Not much else to add about WoL in particular, but I can't wait to keep playing this game some more.

53. Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow: finished 12/11/18
Bonus points :p
I always seem to play this game around the holidays. Not sure why. Aria is probably my favorite Castlevania game, as well as my first one and thus holds a lot of sentimental value. It's a fun game to bang out in a couple hours or if I'm feeling like I want a little boost in confidence since it's one of the only games I'm actually good at.

54. Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition: finished 12/16/18
As March approaches closer I played through this trip again, only I had forgotten that with the Special Edition they added several new characters to play the campaign with. After messing around a couple missions with each of the new characters I decided to commit to a Vergil play through first and oh boy. What a fun, overpowered character. It took a couple of missions to get used to it still as with all the proud souls accumulated with Nero I was able to purchase just about every skill and I was overwhelmed with choice. But once it clicked I felt like I was breaking the game in ways I didn't think possible. It wasn't totally flawless, but Vergil's maneuverability and damage output was unmatched. Bosses melted. I felt like I was playing the game for the first time again and now it's piqued my interest to try Lady/Trish, or maybe even try my hand at Bloody Palace,

58. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (PS1): I was gonna save this game as a possible contender for shocktober 2019, but my friend wanted to play through this game together and me wanting some more Resi after RE2, i couldn't really turn down the offer. Now as my history with the Resident Evil games being 1, 2, 5, and 7, i would have to say 3 was the toughest one for me. It wasn't immensely difficult, but it can be kinda intimidating when the only difficulty choices were easy and hard. Of course i didn't want to play it on easy, but i would rather have a normal option since that's usually my go to. Easy just gives you to many things and leniency to make the game to easy, but hard feels like what RE should be. The enemies are nothing to laugh until you know the game well, zombies are a lil faster and are plentiful, The more advanced enemies wont give you tom slack even after you knock them down, and Nemesis, while being menacing and persistent, he doesn't really pack much of a punch unless hes using the rocket launcher, which can kill you within 2-3 hits. The puzzles can be fun and brain scratchy, the music is awesome, and the gameplay is so awesomely layed out. You can finally Quick turn!! along with a dodge option that kinda works like a parry system with timing, and the powder system in order to make whacha need for ammo. The one thing i will say that is negative for me personally... is that I'm not a fan of the wide open area that is Raccoon City, I'm more of a fan of the close quarters maps of 1, 2 , and 7. Other than that the game is awesome, and stay in 4th place of my favorite Resi, and an excellent part of the series

Easily over 100h. 86.3% completion. High honor.

What can I say that hasn't been said already? This game is a rollercoaster. Where the first RDR was a western-themed GTA, this is much more than that. It's an RPG and an adventure and an action game and a survival game and a hunting simulator all rolled into one. The gameplay is so finely tuned that basically everything it does, it does well. It's possibly the most ambitious game ever made.

And yet, that's not RDR2's main strength. The characters are. I started the game not really feeling Arthur, but by the end of his journey I wanted to see more of him. Not only that, he became one of my favourite characters ever. Compared to the personable and polite but ultimately single-minded John, he has boatloads of developrment and personality.

I'm not sure what else to say. This is an easy GOTY for me. If I was to look for fault on it, I would say the epilogue is way, way too long and perhaps somewhat unnecessary. It kind of "takes the wind out of your sails" after the main story ending in such an emotional note.

Of course the epilogue gave us the very awesome House Building Song, so in the end all evens out.

My Score: ✪✪✪✪✪

64. Yoshi's Woolly World (Wii U) - 8/10

Cute, creative and fun. Tad easy but still a blast to play.

65. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (Genesis) - 7/10

Not as fun as the first two games. I found it frustrating near the end. You would go fast and just run into cruel placed obstacles. Still a good game. Wasn't wild about the music compared to 1/2.

66. Voodoo Vince (Xbox One) - 6/10

Not a fan. The controls were a major pain in the ass, especially near the end of the game. It did clean up nicely but that is about all. The bosses were easy but the platforming was meh.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

Game 49 - World of Final Fantasy Maxima - Nintendo Switch - Completed Dec 22nd, 2018
After about 55 hours of World of Final Fantasy, I'm finally finished. I started this game (twice) when it first came out - once on the PS4 and again on the Vita but didn't finish it either time. Turns out, the game is pretty long, and the first few attempts I only made it about 1/5 of the way through the game. The Switch version, with it's portability and it's updates, made the game enjoyable enough to finish even if the main characters drove me up the walls sometimes. The "toggle fast forward" for battles was the game's saving grace, as I'm not sure what the developers were thinking making the battles in this game so fucking slow. Being able to toggle fast forward on and off, rather than having to hold the button down, made it tolerable but still pretty awkward most of the time. I enjoyed the "Pokemon"-like monster-catching mechanics but they fell a bit flat since I barely changed my party out the entire game. I'd call it a "slightly better than mediocre experience" honestly, but still an enjoyable and interesting game considering how much I love everything Final Fantasy.

==== REMINDER ====
There are only a few days left of the year - if you've completed more than 52 games this year and want to be recognized in the OP, be sure to send me a PM with a link to your post!

Game 1-Never Stop Sneakin(2017)-Switch-Beaten on January 1
-Overall I enjoyed this game but it really was way to monotonous and way too long. The game is supposed to bring back memories of Metal Gear Solid but it really doesn’t, at least for me as MGS is my GOAT. This game has you doing the exact same thing for about 12 hours or so. Same environments, same bosses, same everything, for some reason I kept playing as it was enjoyable but could have been so much better. 7/10

Game 2-Life is Strange Before the Storm Episode 3 Hell is Empty(2017)-PS4-Beaten on January 2
-This was a great conclusion to a great game. Really enjoyed this more than the original. 9/10

Game 3-Call of Duty WWII(2017)-PS4-Beaten on January 12
-Really enjoyed the 5 hour single player campaign. I had been waiting for COD to go back to WWII for a long time and I thought it was great. Hope they keep goin back to WWII e dry couple of years. 9/10

Game 4-Danganronpa V3(2017)-Vita-Beaten on January 15
-I have played and finished the entire series and loved everyone one. This was great but I must say that it is too long in my opinion. 60 hours! About 20 hours too long. 9/10

Game 5-Burly Men at Sea(2017)-Vita-Beaten in January 16
-This was a lovely little point and click adventure game. I played through several endings but after getting the same endings a couple of times, called it quits. 8/10

Game 6-Destiny 2(2017)-PS4-Beaten on January 29
-I really enjoyed the main campaign. While the story was really nothing special, the gunplay is great! I look forward to the Season pass once’s it is on sale. 9/10

Game 7-Batman The Enemy Within Episode 4 What Ails You(2018)-Beaten on February 1
-This was my favorite episode of the entire Telltale Batman series. I loved it! Can’t wait for the finale! 10/10

Game 8-Planet of the Apes The Last Frontier(2017)-PS4-Beaten on February 10
-I really enjoyed playing this adventure game with my family. It was from Sony’s Playlink series that lets you choose decisions using you phone. It wasn’t as good as Hidden Agenda but still a good time with a group of people. The animations and transitions were very janky so he graphics weren’t great. 7/10

Game 9-Shadow of The Colossus(2018)-PS4-Beaten on February 15
-I played the original on PS2 and the remaster on PS3 but never beat the game until the remake. This game is magical and I just loved it. I do wish it was in 3D like the PS3one. Just a mesmerizing experience and one I will always remember. 10/10

Game 10-Bayonetta(2018)-Switch-Beaten on February 19
-After owning the Xbox 360and WiiU version, I finally played and beat Bayonetta and what a ride it was! Great game in the same vein as DMC. Loved it and look forward to the second game soon. 9/10

Game 11-The Last Guardian(2016)-PS4-Beaten on February 23
-After loving the remake of Shadow of the Colossus recently and loving Ico preciously, I decided to play The Last Guardian and have to say that this game is a masterpiece. It is an awe inspiring game. The environments, the music, the lighting, and Trico. My gosh, Trico. Trico could just as well be a real animal. I have never seem anything like it outside of real animals. Masterclass and one of my favorite games of all time. It is the only game that has ever hit me emotionally. I looked at the Metacrotc scores and can’t believe quite a few outlets had given it 6 or 7’s. There has never been anything like this game. Between Ico, Shaodow of the Colossus and the Last Guardian, Ueda is a true artist and one of the greatest game designers of all time. I sure hope he makes more games in the future as no one makes anything quite like these games. 10/10

Game 12-The Lost Bear(2017)-PSVR-Beaten on February 26
-I loved this charming little sidescrolling platformer. I am a spectator sitting in a theatre but am also controlling the action onscreen. The environment around me changes as the environment in the game changes. It only lasts an hour or so but I loved it! 9/10

Game 13-Bayonetta 2(2018)-Switch-Beaten on March 1
-While I enjoyed this game, I didn’t like it as much as th first game which I beat a couple weeks ago. I didn’t like the characters as much in this game, Bayonetta’s short hair, or the fact that it seemed like a boss rush game. It seemed like it went from boss to boss to boss. Still fun though, 8/10

Game 14-Old Man’s Journey(2018)-Switch-Beaten on March 2
-This was a short and very relaxing puzzle adventure game that was a nice game to play after Bayonetta 2. 8/10

Game 15-A Normal Lost Phone(2018)-Switch-Beaten on March 3
-I really enjoyed this visual novel as it was a very unique experience. I really enjoy these brief, inexpensive adventure games in between the bigger games. 10/10

Game 16-Moss(2018)-PSVR-Beaten on March 5
-I absolutely adored this game and is one of my favorite VR games I have played. I really want more games from this perspective as I get no motion sickness from playing whatsoever. Just a delight to play and can’t wait for Book 2.10/10

Game 17-Theseus(2017)-PSVR-Beaten on March 6
-I know this game didn’t get good reviews but I really enjoyed it for the $10 I spent on it. It was a third person action game where I am looking down from where the camera would be viewing the acting. After playing this and Moss, I really like perspective in VR because I don’t get motion sickness. I wish it was longer and that’s the only negative thing to say about it. 8/10

Game 18-Life is Strange Before the Storm-Bonus Episode Farewell(2018)-PS4-Beaten on March 8
-I thought this was a very slow episode even though it was only an hour long. It was just boring. It had a powerful ending though. The ending brings it up a lot. 7/10

Game 19-Florence(2018)-iOS-Beaten on March 8
-This was the first iOS game I have ever finished to completion. It helped that it was only an hour or so. It was a nice little adventure/puzzle game that was very chill and relaxing. 8/10

Game 20-The Inpatient(2018)-PSVR-Beaten on March 10
-I’m not sure how I feel about this one. It was ok. The graphics weren’t great and moving was so slow in the game. Maybe it’s why I didn’t get motion sickness so I shouldn’t complain too much. The game also got extremely dark the last third of the game. 6/10

Game 21-Layers of Fear(2018)-Switch-Beaten on March 10
-This game started out very slowly but then picked up and I ended up enjoying this horror game. Nothing too great but it had some jump scares and creepy music to keep me on the edge of my seat. 7/10

Game 22-Layers of Fear Inheritance DLC(2018)-Switch-Beaten on March 11
-This was the DLC for Layers if Fear and it was an interesting look at what happened in the game from the daughters perspective. Plays the same as the original game which is good. 7/10

Game 23-The Lego Movie Videogame(2014)-Vita-Beaten on March 19
-Every so often I like to play a Lego game as they are generally pretty short, easy games and are just fun. There is something about collecting all those legos that just doesn’t get old. 7/10

Game 24-Metal Slug 3(2015)-Vita-Beaten on March 22
-This game was originally released for the Neo Geo back in 2000. I enjoyed the game but it was very hard which makes sense for an arcade game. Luckily it has unlimited continues so I eventually beat the game. There is some slowdown but that didn’t bother me much and it is only about 90 minutes long. 7/10

Game 25-BioShock 2 from the BioShock Collection(2016)-Xbox One-Beaten on March 29
-I had previously beaten BioShock and BioShock Infinite and enjoyed both of those games. I finally got around to BioShock 2 and I enjoyed it about the same. I have always thought that the gunplay in this series was weak and this game made me think no different. I could tell the graphics were last gen but I still really enjoyed the atmosphere of this game. Now on to Minerva’s Den. 8/10

Game 26-Little Red Lie(2018)-Vita-Beaten on March 30
-Half way to 52! To say I enjoyed this visual novel game would not be the right words. It was depressing while I was playing and really the only game to ever make me feel down for quite some time after finishing. I thought it was a though provoking game and one worth experiencing. 9/10

Game 27-BioShock 2-Minerva’s Den from the BioShock Collection(2016)-Xbox One-Beaten on March 30
-This was more of BioShock 2. I know it gets great ratings but I didn’t like it any more or less that the main game. 8/10

Game 28-Batman the Enemy Within Episode 5 Same Stitch(2018)-PS4-Beaten on March 31
-Good finale to a good series. These Telltale Batman games have been my favorite of all the games Telltale has made. This final episode tied up all the stories but left the door open for more Joker in the future. I look forward to it! 9/10

Game 29-Reverie(2018)-Vita-Beaten on April 3
-I really enjoyed this Zeldaesque game. It was six hours of exploring and puzzle solving with some decent boss fights. Just a good old time and highly recommended. 9/10

Game 30-Garage(2018)-Switch-Beaten on May 14
-Well it has been a while since I finished a game but this one was awesome! I loved the dark atmosphere and music. I liken this game to a slower paced Hotline Miami with horror elements. Loved it! 9/10

Game 31-Subsurface Circular(2018)-Switch-Beaten on May 27
-This was a short little visual novel that I enjoyed. It wasn’t my favorite but still had a decent story and is over in two hours. I am playing Detroit Become Human right now and this has some similar themes. They play nothing like each other though. I think more visual novels should be short like this one. 8/10

Game 32-Another Lost Phone: Laura's Story(2018)-Switch-Beaten on May 29
-This game is relaxing to play with the music playing in the background but the story gets serious and just makes me want to keep searching the phone and reading more and more about what is going on. It's short but I am good with that and hope more games in this series continue to come out. Love them! 10/10

Game 33-London Heist from PSVR Worlds(2016)-PSVR-Beaten on May 29
-I really enjoyed this short game and really look forward to Blood and Truth when it comes out. One of my favorite vr experiences so far. 9/10

Game 34-Quarantine Circular(2018)-PC Via GPD Win-Beaten on June 2
-This was Mike Bithell’s follow up to Subsurface Circular. I enjoyed Subsurface more but this was pretty good too. 7/10

Game 35-Emily is Away(2015)-PC Via GPD Win-Beaten on June 3
-I loved this game as someone that remembers the AOL instant messaging days. Such a cool game but I also think it could have been expanded on a lot more. Looking forward to playing the sequal next. 9/10

Game 36-Emily is Away Too(2017)-PC Via GDP Win-Beaten on June 3
-I loved this game even more that the original. It was longer and had you flipping back and forth between conversations on EOL Messenger which made it even more realistic. The only issue is how fast you had to type as there was a timer for some of the conversations. Looking forward to more of these games. 9/10

Game 37-Sara is Missing(2016)-PC Via GDP Win-Beaten on June 4
-I keep seeking out games like this that allow you to search phones and communicate with people to solve, in this case, the fact that Sara is missing. I just can’t get enough of these games. They are very addictive! 9/10

Game 38-DFD Chapter 1-PC Via GPD Win-Beaten on June 8

Game 39-Detroit: Become Human(2018)-PS4-Beaten on June 10
-Such a great game. Just dripping with atmosphere. It’s a modern day adventure/point and click game and it is so good. David Cage gets a lot of negative press but I have loved every single one of his games and this one is his best yet. 10/10

Game 40-DFD Chapter 2-PC Via GPD Win-Beaten on June 11

Game 41-Phantom Breaker Battlegrounds(2014)-Vita-Beaten on June 19
-A fun, brief beat em up. Nothing special, but good fun for about 2 hours. 7/10

Game 42-The Exorcist: Legion VR(2018)-PSVR-Beaten on June 21
-This cost $6.99 and for that it was good and scary. He issue is that it was about half an hour which is a tad brief. Debating whether I should buy episode 2 or wait for a sale on the season pass. 7/10

Game 43-Doodle Date(2018)-PC via GPD Win-Besten on June 23
-This was a very brief but unique game where I had to draw my date, among other things, and they were then incorporated into the story. It was only about half an hour long and it was ok at best. 6/10

Game 44-Dark Legion(2018)-PSVR-Beaten on June 29
-This was a really enjoyable shooter that was a lot of fun for several hours. For a game that is $10, it comes recommended from me. 7/10

Game 45-No Heroes Allowed VR(2017)-PSVR-Beaten on July 2
-One of my favorite vr games. It was so much fun! I loved the cute graphics, the atmosphere, the gameplay and the characters in the game. It was just so engaging and it is a genre I don’t normaly play. VR made all the difference. 10/10

Game 46-Appollo 11 VR Experience(2017)-PSVR-Beaten on July 2
-Not really a game but it was a great experience for me as I love history. There a few gameplay elements but I preferred to just sit back and enjoy the show. 8/10

Game 47-Digital Domain’s The Monkey King(2017)-PSVR-Beaten on July 3
-This was another VR experience but one that was very good. It’s really wish there were more movies like this made in VR. The weakness was that it was very short and says that more episodes are coming. I will look forward to the next installment. 8/10.

Game 48-Final Fantasy 13(2014)-PC via GDP Win-Beaten on July 7
-Being able to play this on a portable really helped me finally finish his game. I really enjoyed the game even though it gets a lot of negativity thrown it’s way. Looking forward to 13-2. 9/10

Game 49-The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit(2018)-PS4-Beaten on July 7
-This is a two hour precursor to Life is Strange 2. It was ok at best. Still looking forward to LoS2 and seeing how his little story fits into it. 6/10

Game 50-Final Fantasy 10 HD(2016)-PC via GPD Win-Beaten on July 19
-I am focused on playing and beating the mainline Final Fantasy games in the next couple of years. Another one is completed and I really loved this one. Great music and story and just overall a good time. 9/10

Game51-DFD Chapter 3-PC Via GPD Win-Beaten on July 28

Game 52-DFD Chapter 4-PC Via GPD Win-Beaten on July 28

Game 53-DFD Chapter 5-PC Via GPD Win-Beaten on July 28

Game 54-DFD Chapter 6-PC Via GPD Win-Beaten on July 28

Game 55-FF-PC via GPD Win-Beaten on August 2

Game 56-Final Fantasy X-2(2016)-PC via GPD Win-Beaten on August 4
-I did not like this nearly as well as the first game. I didn’t like the mission structure at all. It was still a decent game and one that I am glad I played through. 6/10

Game 57-North(2018)-PS Vita-Beaten on August 7
-This was a short little adventure game that was ok. Nothing special but worth the $2.99 I paid for it. 7/10

Game 58-Halo 5 Guardians(2015)-Xbox One-Beaten on August 10
-I finally got around to beating this game and overall I enjoyed the single player campaign. After playing a lot of shooters, it feels like Halo is falling behind in many categories in the shooting genre. Still good though! 8\10

Game 59-Gears of War 4(2016)-Xbox One-Beaten on August 14
-I have loved all the Gears games and this one is no different. It doesn’t do anything different and I am ok with that. 8/10

Game 60-The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker(2018)-Switch-Beaten on August 14
-This was an enjoyable FMV game that required me to figure out who killed Dr. Dekker by asking patients a bunch of questions over numerous days. I will look into playing more FMV games as I really enjoyed my time worth it. 8/10

Game 61-The Walking Dead The Telltale Series The Final Season Episode 1: Done Running(2018)-PS4-Beaten in August 15
-A good start to the final season. Quite the ending so am looking forward to episode 2! 8/10

Game 62-Late Shift(2017)-PS4-Beaten on August 15
-I really liked this FMV game. This was well acted and seemed to be made with a much higher budget than any other FMV game I have ever seen. I enjoyed the Dr. Dekker game but this game blew that one out of the water. 10/10

Game 63-Dead Space 3(2013)-Xbox 360-Beaten on August 20
-I finally got around to finishing up this series. This was my least favorite of the three games but I still enjoyed thyebtense atmosphere and game overall. 7/10

Game 63-Halo Reach(2010)-Xbox 360-Beaten on August 25
-Has been on my backlog for way too long and I am glad that I finally got around to beating it. Great game! 9/10

Game 64-Battlefield One(2016)-Xbox One-Beaten on August 27
-I loved the short stories of various people from different fronts. I would love more as overall the campaign was short. Great though! 9/10

Game 65-Dead Space 3 Awakening(2013)-Xbox 360-Beaten on August 29
-This was the dlc campaign and it was good but only about an hour long. 7/10

Game 66-Killer is Dead(2013)-Xbox 360-Beaten on September 1
-This was probably the wierdest and craziest game I have ever played. The story was nonsensical but I kept playing because the swordplay was fun and I loved the art style. 7/10

Game 67-Donut County(2018)-PC via GPD Win-Beaten on September 3
-What a fun and relaxing game and was a perfect break from all the serious games I have played lately. It has a Katamari Damacy vibe. 9/10

Game 68-Gears of War Judgement/Aftermath(2013)-Xbox 360-Beaten on September 3
-More Gears gameplay which I love. Fun game! 9/10

Game 69-Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition(2018)-Switch-Beaten on September 26
-I really enjoyed this shortened, condensed version of the game. I look forward to playing the full game sometime in the future. 8/10

Game 70-The Park(2016)-PS4-Beaten on September 29
-Halloween season is upon us and that means my yearly focus on horror games. I really liked this game and would honestly like more movie length horror game experiences like this. At the end, it was kind of like PT in that their is a continuous loop where thing change over time. Good horror experience! 7/10

Game 71-Telltales The Walking Dead The Final Season Episode 2 Suffer the Children(2018)-PS4-Beaten on September 29
-This was a good long episode that may or may not be the last one now that Telltale has all but closed. I enjoyed it and hope that someday this final season will get a chance to finish. 9/10

Game 72-Slender The Arrival(2015)-PS4-Beaten on September 30
-I enjoyed this brief horror game. It wasn’t great but perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon. 7/10

Game 73-Saya no Uta(2013)-PC via GPD Win-Beaten on October 6
-This was a great visual novel to play/read during the Halloween season. It was very interesting and grotesque but not really scary in my opinion. It kept me wanting to keep reading that is for sure. I also liked the fact that it w as the so long, a out five hours or so. I wasn’t abuse fan of having words over the entire screen and would prefer to have the words at the very bottom of the screen so it doesn’t cover the artwork constantly. Minor gripe. 9/10

Game 74-The Evil Within 2(2017)-PS4-Beaten on October 13
I really liked the original and this one was just as good. The story is a little hard to follow but love the overall atmosphere. Great game for October! 8/10

Game 75-Resident Evil 7(2017)-PS4/PSVR-Beaten on October 24
-I really liked this game and am glad to have finally beaten it. I played part of it in Vr for awhile and I got motion sickness after awhile so I put it off for awhile as I felt that the game needed to be played in VR. I finally gave up that belief and mix d it up between PSVR, PS4 and Vita Remote Play. I liked Evil Within 2 better I think but both great games. Now for the dlc! 8/10

Game 76-Resident Evil 7 Not a Hero(2017)-PS4-Beaten on October 27
-This returned an old series favorite Chris Redfield and it was more action packed than the main game. It was good. 7/10

Game 77-Resident Evil 7 End of Zoe(2017)-PS4-Beaten on October 28
-I really liked this dlc. One of my favorite parts of the game. 9/10

Game 78-Resident Evil 7 Banned Footage 1/2(2017)-PS4-Beaten on October 28
-I played through all the episodes and enjoyed Daughters, Bedroom and 21 the most. 7/10

Game 79-Resident Evil Revelations(2017)-Switch-Beaten on October 30
-I really liked this game and I have played and really liked every game in this series(only Resident Evil 0 left). It was just a good old fashioned ridiculous Resident Evil game which after RE7, was a nice change of pace. 8/10

Game 80-A King’s Tale Final Fantasy 15(2016)-Xbox One-Beaten on November 2
-Great little side scrolling beat-em up in the Final Fantasy 15 universe. Had a good time with it for the hour or so it lasted. 8/10

Game 82-Deltarune Chapter One(2018)-PC via GDP Win-Beaten on November 3
-I really enjoyed Undertale so for free, this was an awesome game. Or Demo. Or first Chapter. Not for sure but Indo look forward to more from Toby Fox. 9/10

Game 83-Red Dead Redemption(2010)-Xbox 360-Beaten on November 10
-This is the first Rockstar game I have “beat” and I really enjoyed the wild west setting. The biggest reason I played it is that I wanted to beat it before playing the sequel which I look forward to. I really hope I like the sequel as much as I liked this one. 9/10

Game 84-Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare(2010)-Xbox 360-Beaten on November 13
-I didn’t enjoy this as much as the regular game but it was still fun. There were moments I got stuck because I had to do some very specific thing before the next mission popped up which was very annoying. 6/10

Game 85-Transference(2018)-PSVR-Beaten on November 17
-This was a good vr game that messed with your mind. The atmosphere was great but th sounds got annoying after awhile. Luckily the game was about two hours as I think any longer it would have gotten old. I got motion sick 3/4 of the way through so finished it up on my Vita via remote play. VR is the best way to play no doubt, but still good 2D as well. 7/10

Game 86-The Quiet Man(2018)-PS4-Beaten on November 18
-With no sound, was the worst game I have ever played. There is no sound but muffled nothingness. None. Crazy and stupid decision. I’ll give it a go now with sound and see if it get up to average. 1/10.

Game 87-The Quiet Man with sound(2018)-PS4-Beaten on November 21
-Who would have thought that a game with sound is better than without? That still isn’t saying a whole lot. It is a fmv/beat-em up game and a below average one at that. 4/10

Game 88-Dead Rising 4(2016)-Xbox One-Beaten on November 25
-This game was a fun romp. It took me two years to beat it but I enjoyed it overall. Never get tired of killing zombies. 7/10

Game 89-Zarvot(2018)-Switch-Beaten on December 3
-I really enjoyed my time with this game. It was a fun little shooter that had a surprisingly good story mode. 8/10

Game 90-1979 Revolution Black Friday(2018)-Switch-Beaten on December 3
-I love history. I love video games. The two go very well together and I would love more games like this which are aimed at teaching people. As a teacher, games like this could be used in school. Great experience. 8/10

Game 91-Senran Kagura Reflections(2018)-Switch-Beaten on December 4
-This was not much of a game and was very repetitive and boring. I was hoping it would have more visual novel to it but it didn’t. One of the worst games of the year for me. 3/10

Game 92-Minecraft Story Mode Episode 1 The Order of the Stone(2015)-PC via GPD Win- Beaten on December 4
-This was a nice, relaxingfirst episode. It reminded me why I enjoy playing Telltale games so much. It a Minecraft fan but really enjoyed this as it really has nothing to do with Minefcraft the game. Looking forward to the rest of the series. 8/10

Game 93- Minecraft Story Mode Episode 2 Assembly Required(2015)-PC via GPD Win-Beaten on December 5
-I didn’t like this episode nearly as much as the first but it was about an hour long so it didn’t last long. It was ok and am still looking forward to the next episode. 6/10

Game 94-Kirby Star Allies(2018)-Switch-Beaten on December 8
-This was the first Kirby game I have ever beaten and it was nice, fun little sidescrolling romp. The Switch is perfect for games like this. 8/10

Game 95-Minecraft Story Mode Episode 3 The Last Place You Look-(2015)-PC via GPD Win-Beaten on December 9
-I continue to enjoy this series. Nice episode. 8/10

Game 96-Minecraft Story Mode Episode 4 A Block and a Hard Place(2015)-PC via GPD Win-Beaten on December 10
-This Episode seemed like the end of the story so I’m interested to see where episode 5 goes. This was an action packed episode and the best one of the bunch so far. 9/10

Game 97-Gal Gun 2(2018)-Switch-Beaten on December 11
This game was below average. You stand around and shoot cute, baby, pink, demons that are attacking girls. The story is really basically nothing. Played it because it was short and took up a lot of space on my Switch. 4/10

Game 98-Minecraft Story Mode Episode 5 Order Up(2016)-PC via GPD Win-Beaten on December 13
-This Episode seemed like a self contained story after last episode finished up the bigger story. I’m not sure what to expect on the last three episodes but I am still enjoying the series a lot. 7/10

Game 99-11:45 A Vivid Life-(2018)-PC via GPD Win-Beaten on December 15
-A strange, short, narrative game where you think your skeleton isn’t your so you steal a X-ray macine to look at your skeleton. You find some things that don’t belong so you cut them out. It is a interesting look at mental disease. Free for PC and you can also play in your browser. Very short though. 7/10

Game 100-Omensight(2018)-Switch-Beaten on December 16
-I knew I would love this game as I loved their previous game Stories Path of Destinies. This game had great atmosphere and voice acting and fun gameplay. There was noticeable slowdown at times and the load times were long and frequent but it still didn’t hurt my overall appreciation of this game. I do wish there would be more environments as you do have to go back to the same environments numerous times so there is some repetition. 8/10

Game 101-Minecraft Story Mode Episode 6 A Portal to Mystery(2016)-PC via GPD Win-Beaten on December 16
-I really enjoyed this seeemingly one off murder mystery. It was different from all the other episodes and hope episode 7 and 8 are similar. 9/10

Game 102- Minecraft Story Mode Episode 7 Access Denied(2016)-PC via GPD Win-Beaten on December 19
-This was a short but sweet episode that I once again, enjoyed. While episodes 5-7 seem to be comepletely separate from episodes 1-4, they are still a lighthearted romp. 8/10

Game 103-Minecraft Story Mode Episode 8 A Journey’s End(2016)-PC via GPD Win-Beaten on December 20
-This as a decent finale I guess. I can say that I do look forward to season two. 7/10

Game 104-Minecraft Story Mode Season 2 Eposode 1 Hero in Residence(2017)-PC via GPD Win-Beaten on December 21
-I just doubled the 52 game goal! Wow! Well here I am playing season 2 right after finishing season 1. That shows how much I am enjoying this lighthearted series. It is a perfect game to play around Christmas. This episode was probably the weakest of any so far. It was fine but just slow. Well see how it picks up. 6/10

Game 105-Minecraft Story Mode Season 2 Episode 2 Giant Consequences(2017)-PC via GPD Win-Beaten on December 21
-I enjoyed this hour long episode but I’m not liking this season nearly as well as the first one so far. Lets see what happens in the next couple of episodes.

Game 106-Gris(2018)-Switch-Beaten on December 22
-Beautiful game. Both artistically and musically. Stunning. The gameplay was also good. I wish there was a little bit more explained about the story but I think I understand game hits all the cords that Journey did for me. Great game! 9/10

Game 107-Minecraft Story Mode Season 2 Episode 3 Jailhouse Block(2017)-PC via GPD Win-Beaten on December 25
-This was a fun, action packed episode. Looking forward to the next episode. 8/10

Going for my 4th year in a row!

1. Crash Bandicoot Remaster (PS4)
Completed: 1/5/18
Time: 8 hours?
Rating: 8/10

This was my first time playing any Crash game. Thought it was a really good game that has held up well for being 20 years old. Some of the levels, esp the Bridge in the Sky levels, were very, very challenging. Can't wait to play the other two games later this year.

2. Hotline Miami (Vita)
Completed 1/6/18
Time: 5 hours?
Rating: 6/10

Heard a lot of good things about this game and thought it was an okay game, but nothing great. I feel a bit too much of the gameplay is trial-and-error in order to advance and that's a minor turn-off for me.

3. Alan Wake: American Nightmare (X360/XB1 BC)
Completed: 1/8/18
Time: 3 hours?
Rating: 6/10

Was a big fan of Alan Wake and I enjoyed this as well. Remedy does a great job with the narrative of their games. Their gameplay mechanics are what holds up their games from receiving higher ratings (from me). Would still play Alan Wake 2 in a hot second if they ever did one.

4. Ultimate Capcom vs. Marvel 3 (PS4)
Completed: 1/10/18
Time: 4 hours
Rating: 8/10

While it's not the deepest fighting game, it's damn fun and I'm still playing it. My biggest beef with the game, is the old-school tactic that the "Boss" in Arcade mode is super-cheap.

5. Battlefront 2 (Xbox1)
Completed: 1/20
Time: 15 hours
Rating: 8/10

I thought the campaign of this game was great and really enjoyed the story along with it. I also enjoy playing the arcade missions as I'm avoiding the P2W aspects of the MP.

6. ARMS (Switch)
Completed: 1/20
TIme: 2 hours
Rating: 6/10

Not a big fan of the game, one of my sons really likes it though so I have played with him off and on. I went through the Grand Prix yesterday and just thought the experience was okay overall, but nothing I'll revisit outside of playing with my kids.

7. Madden 18 (Xbox1)
Completed: 1/24
Time: 15 hours
Rating: 8/10

I enjoy Madden games for the most part. The gameplay is nothing different than '16 (I skipped '17) really. One thing though is that I felt the AI in Franchise mode would be really cheap in games that I felt you were destined to lose. I saw some AI defense that made ridiculous INTs. That part was frustrating enough at times that it dampened my enjoyment of the game.

8. Yakuza 0 (PS4)
Completed: 2/1
Time: ~30 hours
Rating: 8/10

I love organized crime/mafia movies so this was right up my alley. I really enjoyed the story...a lot. The core gameplay though was a bit mediocre in my opinion.

9. Forza Horizon 3: Blizzard Mountain (XBox1)
Completed: 2/4
Time: 4-5 hours
Rating: 9/10

I waited until this got the X update before playing it and holy shit I'm glad I did. This game is absolutely stunning now. I loved this expansion as just like with FH2 Storm Island I love the weather impacted rally races. I enjoyed this more than the Hot Wheels expansion and anyone who enjoyed the base game should absolutely play this.

10. Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment (Switch)
Completed: 2/4
Time: 4-5 horus
Rating: 9/10

I really enjoyed Shovel Knight, wasn't a big fan of Plague of Shadows (I dropped it), but thoroughly enjoyed this. The movement mechanics are so tight and are very enjoyable.

11. King of Fighters XIV [Replay] (PS4)
Completed: 2/7
Time: 2 hours
Rating: 8/10

I do replays of this every so often using different teams. It's a solid fighter, but as a SF fanboy, I enjoy SFV a lot more.

12. Devil May Cry 4 (PS4)
Completed: 2/7
Time: 8 hours
Rating: 6/10

I'm not the biggest fan of character action games, but I do play a couple every year. This game was decent but IMO, if you played any DMC (or DmC) games they are pretty similar.

13. Crash Bandicoot 2 (PS4)
Completed: 2/7
Time: 5-6 hours
Rating: 8/10

As noted previously, this is my first time playing this series. These are really fun platformers and the remasters are done well. This games doesn't really differ from the first, except for being significantly easier, but that's okay - it's still a great game.

14. Virtua Fighter 5 (XBox1/360)
Completed: 2/16
Time: 1 hour
Rating: 6/10

Played through this short story mode and tried some of the challenges. Not going to spend any extra time with this fighter as I have a lot to play with and it just doesn't stack up against the rest

15. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (PS4)
Completed: 2/18
Time: 6-7 hours?
Rating: 9/10

I know this game got shit on a lot, but I thought the campaign was really good. I also enjoyed the air combat and all the side missions. Zombies mode was also fun though no different than the previous CoD Zombies modes I've played. Have not and will not touch the MP tho.

16. Shadow of the Colossus (PS4)
Completed 2/19
Time: 6 hours
Rating: 8/10

This was my first time playing SotC. This game is enjoyable and I would recommend it to anyone with a PS4. My biggest issue is the controls. It's a big issue when the most challenging part of the game is the controls themselves :( . Despite that, it goes to show you how great the game is that I still gave it a 8/10. (It would have been a 10/10 if the controls were better.

17. What Remains of Edith Finch (Xbox 1)
Completed 2/19
Time: 2 hours
Rating: 8/10

"Walking Simulators" aren't my favorite genre, but the story(ies) in this one more than make up for it. They aren't for the light of heart and for parents they can really be a bit somber. But still excellent storytelling.

18. World of Final Fantasy (Vita)
Completed: 2/22
Time: 40 hours
Rating: 9/10

This was a great jRPG and better than some mainline Final Fantasy games. I have never played Pokemon but I'm guess this game is SE attempts to put Pokemon mechanics in a FF setting? Either way it turned out great! The only think I have to say to criticize it is the story and for RPG story is a big factor.

19. Assassin's Creed Origins (XB1)
Completed: 3/2018
Time: 35 hours
Rating: 10/10

I really loved this game. The world and setting constructed is absolutely amazing. Yes, there are still some Ubisoft open-world cookie cutter elements to it, but damn, it was still a blast. My favorite game I've played so far this year.

20. Megaman 10 (XB1)
Completed: 3/2
Time: 2 hours
Rating: 8/10

It's classic Megaman with different robots/powers. Not much else to say

21. Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped (PS4)
Completed: 3/12
Time: 4-5 hours
Rating: 8/10

Completed the third legs of the Crash trilogy. This one was the most fun IMO. Definitely the easiest.

22. Salt and Sanctuary (Vita)
Completed: 3/12
Time: ? No idea I had the Vita in suspend mode a lot and the game has me logged in >200 hours lol
Rating: 9/10

I love Soulsbourne games and this truly is a 2D version. It has it own takes on the "genre" that is a bit hit or miss but still a great experience and any Soulsbourne fan should play

23. Mass Effect (Xb1)
Completed: 3/15
Time: 16 hours
Rating: 9/10

I had barely played this when it first came out. Yet another reason why BC is great; I finallly was able to play through this game and was well worth it. I look forward to trying the other 2 games later on.

24. South Park Stick of Truth (PS4)
Completed: 3/21
Time: 10 hours?
Rating: 9/10

The combat in the game was simple, but damn if this game isn't fun (and funny) as heck though. Unlocking some abilities later in the game kinda broke it though as they were way, way OP.

25. Superhot (XB1)
Completed: 4/4/18
Time: 3 hours?
Rating: 8/10

Heard a lot of good things about this game but never bought it. Was pleased to see it make a GwG and gave it a whirl. Really interesting game and a bit of a chilling story to it. Would highly recommend.

26. Horizon Zero Dawn + Frozen Wilds (PS4)
Completed: 4/17/18
Time: 60 hours
Rating: 9/10

Great game. I wasn't a huge fan at first but as I kept playing I really got drawn into the combat and the story. To put in perspective how much I loved this game, I made the effort to get a platinum trophy for it. As a reference, outside of a TellTale game, the only other game I have a platinum for is Bloodborne. The Frozen Wilds DLC is pretty damn great as well.

27. Oxenfree (XB1)
Completed: 4/18/18
Time: 3-4 hours?
Rating: 7/10

This type of adventure game usually isn't y cup of tea, but after putting in a lot of hours (for me for one game) in HZD it was a great palette cleanser. The story is fairly interesting which is vital in a game such as this.

28. Bug Butcher (XB1)
Completed: 4/28/18
Time: 2 hours
Rating: 6/10

Gave this a try from GamePass. Simple shoot-em-up that is basically fun. The last few levels get pretty intense though and pretty damn tough factoring in the time limit.

29. Darkness II (XB1)
Completed: 5/1/18
Time: ~6 hours
Rating 8/10

I never played the first Darkness. Thought this was a fun game, the powers that you can use really help differentiate it from the countless other FPS that came out last gen. For anyone who has this via GwG, I highly recommend.

30. God of War (PS4)
Completed: 5/4/18; Platinum trophy: 5/11/18
Time: ~40 hours?
Rating: 9/10

Great game. Not much to say that hasn't already been discussed on this forum. One of the gen's must play games IMO.

31. Wolfenstein II (XB1)
Completed: 5/14/18
Time: 14 hours
Rating: 8/10

I wasn't the biggest fan of the New Order and was going to skip this all together until I got it for a really good price with the DLC. Man, am I glad I did. It's an incredible game and one of the best FPS campaign's I've played. I skipped most of the side content, but the game play is so good I'll likely go back.

32. Assassin's Creed Origin's DLC: The Hidden Ones and Curse of the Pharoahs (XB1)
Completed: 5/30/18
Time: 17 hours
Rating: 9/10

I'm going to count both of these DLCs as one game for the list as they have some pretty substantial and engaging content IMO. If you liked AC:O, you will like the DLC. It's more of the same in a good way. Both DLC's had good stories by Ubisoft standards., esp for DLC.

33. Undertale (Vita)
Rating: 7/10

Unfortunately not a game that I enjoyed as much as others.

34. Another World (Vita)
Rating: 5/10
A game I wanted to play back in the SNES days but just now was able to. Glad I did it, but it does not hold up well.

35. State of Decay 2 (XB1)
Rating: 8/10

I loved the first SoD and this was more of that. I don't think it really expanded too much on the game structure, and in fact I actually like the mission/story structure of the first game better. Still a great game though. Either all the reports of how buggy it is (was?) is overblown or I just got lucky

36. Streets of Rage (XB1)
Rating: 7/10

Classic 16-bit side scrolling beat-em-up.

37. Undead Nightmare (XB1)
Rating: 8/10

I'm not the biggest RDR fan, but I still really enjoyed this expansion. Has some fun gameplay mechanics regarding ammunition

38. Shinobi III (XB1)
Rating: 9/10

I never had a chance to play this on the Genesis. Really fun game that holds up well

39. PUBG (XB1)
Rating: 7/10

While there is no ending to this game, I've put enough hours in it to feel I got my money's worth and finally got a chicken dinner. Frankly I think the game is a bit overrated IMO (Fortnite too)

40. Vanquish (XB1)
Rating: 8/10

Not the biggest Platinum games fan, but this game was really fun. The story was LOL, but the core gameplay was fun and a nice romp to play through

41. Hollow Knight (Switch)
Rating: 9.5/10

Amazing game. This board has talked a lot about this game so not much to add. It's the best Metroidvania in a long time (supplanting Ori this gen for me). It's probably my favorite game this year so far edging out God of War

42. Rage (XB1)
Rating: 8/10

Fun FPS, reminded me a lot of a Borderlands vibe tbh. (minus the loot aspect)

43. Batman: The Enemy Within (XB1)
Rating: 7/10
Time: 9 hours

I'm not a big fan of the Telltale games, but loved the first season of Batman as I'm a Batman fanboy. This one I didn't enjoy as much. It was okay, but the story didn't grip me nearly as much as the first one.

44. Gran Turismo Sport (PS4)
Rating: 8/10
TIme: 12 hours

I'm still playing this game, but marking it as done as I saw the credits and got the trophy for the "Finale" It's a good circuit racer IMO. Since I also have Forza 7, I don't mind that there isn't a lot of SP content, but can see why a lot of people do. The online racing is the most fun I've had online. It really shines (and I say this as someone who is much more of a SP guy)

45. Kingdom Hearts 1.5 Final Mix (PS4)
Rating: 9/10
Time: 25 hours

Loved this game. Glad I was finally able to beat it after taking a looong break from it. Look forward to moving onto the next game in the series.

46. Metro Last Light (XB1)
Rating: 8/10
Time: 9 hours

Contiuation of Metro 2033. No big changes in gameplay, but a continuation of the great story. While the gameplay isn't my favorite, these two games have some of the best storytelling for FPS.

47. Streets of Rage 2 (XB1)
Rating: 8/10
Time: 2 hours

Very similar to first Streets of Rage, but much more polished.

48. Battlefield 1 (XB1)
Rating: 7/10
Time: 8 hours

Played through the campaign and tried a couple of online matches. It's okay, but I never would have played this if it wasn't for EA Access.

49. Golf Story (Switch)
Rating: 8/10
TIme: 10 hours

Really enjoyed this golf RPG. It's very easy and simplistic, but still a ton of fun and it's nice that the gameplay is a mix between playing courses and the minigames/challenges. Some fairly amusing moments as well with the writing.

50. Halo Wars 2 (XB1)
Rating: 8/10
Time: 17 hours

Played through the campaign as well as all story DLC and the Flood expansion. Really enjoyed this game, wish I was good enough to mess around online, but I would just get destroyed. Any RTS fan should try this game IMO.

51. Persona 4 Golden (Vita)
Rating: 9/10
Time: 75 hours

My first Persona game and the first JRPG outside of Square Enix RPGs I have played in a long time. Loved, loved this game. One of the few games that I had any emotional attachment to the characters, what happened etc.

52. Metroid Samus Returns (2/3DS)
Rating: 10/10
Time: 12 hours

This my friends is how you do a remake. They took the original Metroid 2 and not only updated it graphically, they completely added new gameplay elements never seen before in this series and it was a-maze-ing. I enjoyed this more than Super Metroid and is likely my favorite Metroid game now

Main Post

67. Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins (Gameboy) - 8/10

Way easier than I remember it being, but still a blast. Very creative and I loved the different zones I had to beat to get to Wario. Simple but fun.

68. Sonic Spinball (Genesis) - 7/10

Never would have beat this without save states. It was really creative and was fun at times but it is just too challenging. I remember playing it as a kid with some friends and we never made it past the first board. Still worth an attempt if you can handle the frustration.

So, 31 out of 52. Fourth year in a row I've failed the challenge. D'oh! Congrats to all those who beat the challenge, it's been a pleasure reading your posts. I can't wait to sign up for 2019's challenge. My favorite gaming experiences this year were RiME, Firewatch and getting Rocketeer in RL. And I'm starting the year off with a bang by starting A Link to the Past on SNES Mini. Cheers!

46:30-ish. Finished game with Gully, Alumon and Garrison, all three maxed out with Legendary weapons.

A good game to finish the year, failing the 52 goal for second year in a row :( Battle Chasers is actually a very short game, but requires grinding at some points and the difficulty curve is actually pretty lousy. The game looks gorgeous though, the story is interesting, if flimsy, and the turn-based combat is agile but strategic enough to be interesting. Also, there's a lot of depth if you want to do sidequests and side "tasks" like the Arena or the hunts.

The final boss, though, is a giant roadblock - you can pretty much reach it with your characters at level 27 and it will mop the floor with you. Make sure to be max level with your three characters and it's great help if you get the Legendary weapons. Even then, not all team builds will work: I used the "safest" one and I needed like 10 tries and a bit of luck.

My Score: ★★
