$99 New 3DS Black Friday Deal

I think I'll get the black one, then decide on whether I'll keep it over the next month. I don't need it, but it's nice and it'd be great to be able to push past my germaphobia and take my current XL outside.

Then maybe I'd get through my backlog of Pokemon and other games.

The downside: I'd be spending $160 CAD after taxes for something to look pretty in a drawer.

@rekon: None of the New 3DS systems come with a power adapter. It's bullshit.

Is there anything about this thats that much better than a regular 3ds? I never play mine, got it for free from a friend but that white one looks so good

Yeah, I want everyone who wants one to be able to get one. The regular 3ds has never been readily available to everyone and I was hoping this would be it.

But I'm sure these will just go on ebay for 2-3 times retail like every other Nintendo product and both people who want to upgrade and buy another unit get screwed.

And people are going to defend it.

If some of the quantities I have seen are accurate for various retailers, this isn't going to be tough to find. I also doubt flippers will see much value when you can buy a New 3DSXL for $200 and some retailers have had it for as low as $175 in the last few weeks. There was even that New 3DS bundle with the Mario plates for $150 at Target and Walmart and while that sold out, it was available for at least a couple of weeks earlier this year.

Improved 3D, a few exclusives, and SNES VC.

Is there an equivalent to Mario All-Stars (or at least some way to play the classics--maybe even Super Mario World) on 3DS?

Also, any word on if this will be on Amazon?

There isn't an equivalent to Mario All-Stars, but you can play all previous NES Mario games on any 3DS model. On the New 3DS, which is the model in the OP, you can also play Super Mario World as the N3DS offers SNES VC.

These things are gonna be in very low quantities.. more black than white. My best buy has like 6 black and 3 white. All for black friday. Not sure if these are ticketed items either.
Great, so I can pretty much forget about getting one of these then. God damn it, Nintendo. How are you guys planning on buying it online? It doesn't look like Amazon will have it.

Ah what the hell. I definitely don't want to spend my thanksgiving in a line. :/ I wanted to but this online. Why do stores have to open at dinner time on freaking thanksgiving. I know Walmart and I think target is doing this?

Any additional deals on 3DS software? I'm probably buying one of these for my fiancé for christmas, to replace her broken 3DS. She also specifically wants that Disney Magical World 2 game.

All I'm seeing on the master checklist is
  • Bravely Second for $20 at Best Buy
  • Kirby Planet Robobot for $25 at Target
  • Lego Star Wars The Force Awakens for $15 at Gamestop
  • Pokemon X/Y for $20 at Best Buy
  • Pokemon AS/OR at Target for $25 at Walmart
  • Sega 3D Classics Collection for $20 at Gamestop

Of course there's always the Nintendo Selects line as well.

If you'r referring to the N3DS by "The regular 3ds", the Animal Crossing N3DS bundle was available for months in retail stores as was the Super Mario 3D Land bundle. The only bundle you could argue was difficult to get a hold of was the Pokemon 20th Anniversary bundle, but otherwise a N3DS has been easily obtainable on multiple occasions.

2014's Super Mario-themed 3DSXL was readily available online on Black Friday, I can't imagine this one being any more difficult to get a hold of.

You Best Buy guys, do you know if these are being put out when doors open at 5 on Thursday, or are they being held until midnight?

Is Amazon officially out? Christ, Nintendo is just fucking terrible at letting people buy their products. They go out of their way to make it difficult or undesirable for me to give them my money.

Yeah if it's not on Amazon, I'm out.

And this would've been the first Nintendo product I'd've bought in almost a decade.

Keep pitching Ls, Nintendo.

I can't believe we are this close to black Friday and there aren't any doorbusters on the XL.

There's shouldn't even need to be doorbusters on this thing. It's been out, what, 20 months or so now? This thing should be standard $169.99 and commonly available throughout black friday for $129.99 at this point.

Oh I agree. I waited this long and there is no way in hell I'm paying more than $130 for an XL at this point.

I really want the XL model as well, but there's no way I can justify buying it with a $99 non-XL model coming out for Black Friday. I'm in the ballpark of $140 or so as the most I'd pay, but full price or close to it at this time of year( and point in its life-cycle a few months before Switch)? Please.

Yup, I've sat out the last decade of Nintendo with the exception of what amounted to a WiiU rental. They're just such bumbling clowns. Oh well, please be excited for scalper prices on these and the NES to hold you over until the Switch releases without Zelda.

Same here. Missed out on the FE special edition bundle a while back, and never ended up buying any 3ds at all. Not lining up at a store, online or nothing for me.

My only concern is this is so limited it ends up (strategically) meant to push people to the more pricey XL.

Don't forget the inevitable scalping for the Switch....

Will I be able to run homebrew on a new New 3DS on factory firmware? (I have Cubic Ninja, if this helps.) I really want to play Rayman 2 and Luigi's Mansion 2 OC'd at 800 MHz since I heard it makes them run at a flawless 60 fps.

There's been a bunch of them that are actually limited and sold out right away as well in the past.

And considering the $99 price is only for these two limited editions (according to source in OP), these will likely be sold out quickly. People looking to upgrade + holiday season + scalpers + limited stock = not pretty.

Wii U's were scalped at release.

I recall showing up at my local Best Buy around 10 minutes before opening the morning of the Wii U's release, being about third in line, and seeing a bulk stack of the dang things when walking out of the door. They weren't exactly hard to get a hold of around these parts.

The only N3DS that comes to mind that "sold out right away" was the Pokemon 20th Anniversary set, and even that was not terribly difficult to pick up if you wanted to.

I saw the Animal Crossing bundle throughout at least March at my local Target, if not longer, and I saw the SM3DL bundle at my local Wal-Mart a week or two back.

You're assuming that the Switch will be popular and successful. Let's not count our Wii Us before they hatch, shall we?

I can just as easily say you assume it won't be. I don't know, and neither do you. I do feel the switch concept has more potential than the Wii U if its priced and marketed correctly. The Wii U didn't sell that bad at launch before sales dropped off a cliff after xmas 2012

I hope you're right. One poster above mentioned their BB is only getting 6 units, I think. Though, another said they are seeing good numbers for these.

I'm not gonna try to guarantee you anything, I think it's probably just a bit preemptive to panic.

Oh, don't get me wrong-- I didn't take it as a guarantee, I'm just happy to have any cause for optimism about this product. I've been on the fence about a N3DS for a while and this is a tempting price for sure.

Will these things be hard to get?

We don't know yet, unfortunately.

Is now a good time to get a 3DS or will support be poor with the launch of Switch?

Like for your first 3DS? There's some support still for 2017. The performance of the Switch will probably directly affect future 3DS support and how long it continues. But if you've never owned a 3Das you have new access to an incredible and diverse library of games...and if you never owned a DS, and probably even if you did, you also have access to a plethora of amazing DS games you might not have ever okayed or heard of.

Is now a good time to get a 3DS or will support be poor with the launch of Switch?

The 3DS has a GREAT library. So you will always have something to play on it, if you've never owned one before. Also you get access to the giant DS library if you never owned a DS as well. Can't really go wrong imo.

Good grief.

Smh, do you even want to play any of the games on the system? Seriously.

Who cares if it's discontinued or not supported after even Pokémon comes out. Between the DS, 3DS, New 3DS, and Virtual Console games there are enough good games to keep anyone busy through their retirement and pass down to their grand children.
