$99 New 3DS Black Friday Deal

Haven't all DS/3DS limited or special edition been sold out and scalped at launch, but then suddenly about 2 or so weeks later they start showing up again in stores? Has there been a case where this hasn't happened?

So I was going to trade in my XL today at Gamestop but the person I know wasn't working today.

The employee who was however insisted I tradein my 3DS now with him so I could be on the wait list for the new 3DS. I asked him about system transferring and he said it un-needed as all i had to do was put my hard drive card in the new system.

Then said if i ran into any issues, he'd fix them for me for $20.

Seems legit!

Admittedly I don't know how to system transfer after I trade in my 3DS. I don't care so much about saves but I'd like my Nintendo ID linked to the new system so i can get my eshop games and puzzle pieces. Consensus is that I call Nintendo with my info once I get the new info right?

Slight chance my buddy there will stash the system until Friday so I can do a system to system transfer then we can wipe it. I already deleted my downloaded games in hopes of making the process faster.
Haha. This post made me laugh. I believe you can call Nintendo, but I've never done it. Safest/most straight forward way is to have both systems and do a system transfer but just for the important stuff (and choose the option that allows you to keep the stuff on the SD card). You can then just swap the 'hard drive card' (hah) over.

Now that you've traded in your system already though, you're probably going to have to call Nintendo.

Nah, I still have it. I'm going to GameStop after work tomorrow hoping my buddy will be there.

Haven't had a portable since Game Boy Pocket which disappeared sometime in 2001.

I think I want the black 3ds. Is waiting at a 24 hour walmart a strategy that's likely to result in success? Or will there be a load of people there because black Friday? I have to work Thanksgiving evening and I'll be getting off a little before midnight.

On amazon how soon should i be checking the site on black friday. Like 12:01 or something? Early morning hours? Trying to nab one but havent done it before.

I don't think I've ever seen a black Friday edition get restocked.

When I worked at GameStop, seasonal limited editions from Nintendo were very hit and miss in terms of amount of stock. In almost every case, the initial wave was very small -- only a few units. We'd sometimes see restocks over the course of the season, though. If these $99 n3DSes sell like crazy (sell out fast), kind of hope there's periodic restocks before Christmas. When I was an Assistant Store Manager, however, I never really got notice about restocks -- they just kind of showed up and would go up for sale seemingly at random.

Last year, my experience with limited edition 3DS systems led me to believe the Hyrule Edition was going to be relatively scarce so I got one right away. Turns out it was available abundantly for quite some time, at least in the region I live in now.

50/50 chance Nintendo is prepared to provide more to retailers beyond Black Friday or that they're treating this like another off-season limited edition 3DS (think the various Pokemon systems and the Fire Emblem systems that never really got additional runs). Given the Switch right around the corner and Nintendo probably wanting to capitalize on 3DS sales this season, my money's leaned a little more on restocks coming past Black Friday, but Nintendo doesn't always play their business completely smart.

I still feel like an idiot for wanting this, given that it will likely end up just sitting in a drawer with limited or next to no use. I'd just be buying it for peace of mind, to have one perfect one and be able to take my XL -- which was a gift -- outside and anywhere I go.

It feels dumb to spend $160 CAD on that, even if most of it is credit from a retailer.

Another worry is that they'll abandon 3DS soon. But I have five Pokemon games and lots of others I need to get to, and not caring about my XL as much would help.

Even when it does go up, amazon will be sold out at 12:02 and actually trying to walk into a gamestop for it will be..unpleasant.

NOA really does hate us

In Toronto myself, and Chewie, I'm in the same boat. Discovered a hairline crack in the lid of my n3DSXL and buying this would make me feel better about it. Same reason. Knowing I have a nice minty fresh one available. Could also sell the XL I suppose...

The listing looks the same to me today as it did this weekend.

It changed for me though. Yesterday there was a "sign up for alert" page now it sais "Currently unavailable. We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock."

There was never a mention of any sort of stock until today for me.

The page did not change for me at all. It says Currently Unavailable and has an Email Me when back in stock button. Pages for upcoming items appear this way for me.

It did not change.... I just confirmed this as well....

They are attractive and cheap, but I'd really rather wait for the Switch.

I'll just put $100 in a jar or sommit for now.

Good price, I like the faceplate idea... but pass. I have a N3DSXL Majora's Mask LE from Gamestop and had it since the day it came out. I've seen a lot of N3DSXL users want to jump ship for the smaller model. I'm fine staying with mine though. Just gonna put that $99 towards Switch.... just a few more months and I likely won't feel like carrying a 3DS around anyway since I'll have a Switch.

That would bother me, too, so I understand.

I want to use the XL more, and this would prompt me to, and get those Pokemon games off my backlog. Conversely, I'd be spending $160, have to buy a new charger (eff you Nintendo, for not including one) and it'd all sit in a drawer most of the time.

Would definitely bite if it was the XL. I already own a standard size N3DS and the things feel incredibly cheap. You have to insert some paper inbetween the backplate and the battery just so there's less give on the plastic.

Gamestop is opening at 5:00 AM and oh boy i might show up around then. I really want a black system.

I suspect Amazon will send out email alerts tomorrow for availability.

I don't see this being in super low quantities, certainly not like the NES Classic, but since it's $99, I think it'll go sort of quick.

That being said, it's hardly being advertised for what I can tell, so the average consumer might not be aware of it, thus not going crazy over acquiring one first thing Friday.

I feel it'd be best for me to try and get one of these at Target than a GameStop, but maybe I'll see if I can get any idea on how many units they're getting.

5AM is smart. You may want to call them today to make sure they have some, and ask how many. Many ITT have reported very low quantities for GS.

Would it be Pacific or Eastern? It confuses me when Americans mention a time without specifying a time-zone.

Just a heads up for those who have not done the BF online sale thing from Best Buy. They don't publish when the sale will go live. You just have to stay up and wait with us online. It should go live sometime late tonight.

Do Best Buy and Walmart honor something when you ordered it? I can't remember exactly but I feel there have at least been cases where Best Buy lets your order something and then cancels the order saying they don't have the stock for it or something. Are they good with inventory management?

Dang, I already have the Pokemon 3DS that came out a few months back, but I really want that black.

Is it releasing based on when the store starts their Black Friday? Cause On the Nintendo site it says it's coming out on Nov. 25th. I'm confused.

Both have been known to have to cancel orders. In their defense, their systems are not set up to handle sudden surges in demand like this will cause.
