$99 New 3DS Black Friday Deal

Has anyone received a notice of shipment from Toys R Us at all? Don't really have an idea when I can expect this to deliver.

This morning it changed for me from shipping to shipped and arriving tomorrow.
EDIT.. Never mind I am too sleepy. You asked from TRU I had mine from Amazon :/

I was looking around in Best Buy and ended up trying a 3DS for the first time. Surprisingly, I didn't have a problem with the screen size or resolution. I was about to buy it because I've been thinking about playing Pokemon again (haven't played since Diamond), but the new 3DS was sold out. The rep told me they didn't receive many shipments.

Good job Nintendo. It's obvious a lot of the people who grew up playing Pokemon are looking to get back into the franchise right now soooo why not....you know...let people buy the system to play it?

There are 3DS systems you can purchase other than this $99 one.

I'm not going to spent more money just because they choose to under ship. I'll see if I can get it by the end of this weekend. If not, then I'll come back when the Switch comes out if the price is good. I have too many options (PC, mobile, & PS4) to deal with Nintendo's BS. I'm sure many others feel the same way.

Why is everyone so fucking grumpy towards Nintendo? They have to have shipped at least 100k units. There are some places where the big TVs are 5 or so a store, the big phones are under 10 a store, and yet no one's bitching out those companies? The whole purpose of this sale isn't for everyone to get a cheap 3DS, but for Nintendo to push a shitton of units into the market and market their product with hype.

I get it. It's frustrating, but stop taking out your personal nonsense against Nintendo. I got one by paying attention to GAF while watching TV. It really wasn't that hard.
Because NoA has been bloody incompetent the past few years and shows no signs of improvement. NoA is a total, utter joke.

They have to blame someone other than themselves so Nintendo is it.
Yes, I blame myself for having a family and a full time job.

Damn, good going me, maybe think about that next time! Skip the Thanksgiving dinner and camp out for hours in front of Target instead!

Not everyone has today off, either.

I gotta get these faceplates to go with it

Those TV's get restocked though.

Those TVs are available for sale whenever.

The smaller New 3DS is not available in the US at any other time (the white one was made available in a bundle only very recently), that's why people are mad Nintendo keeps releasing this in-demand product only in small quantities as parts of special bundles or sales.

I managed to get an order through for the New 3DS white version the other day. I got my order confirmation but shortly thereafter, I received a backorder e-mail from them. So...no cancellation yet but I feel like its looming over me.

I wanted to pick up some of the deals right now for some 3DS games but I am unsure I still have the 3DS coming my way. Come on, Toys R Us. Don't let me down.

Because NOA is stupid. This isn't the first time they've dropped the ball and it won't be the last.

I'm not surprised though people go to great lengths to defend them even when they're clearly enabling scalping and hurting their customer base by making it near impossible to pay retail prices.

Why not be irritated at both? Seems rational to be annoyed that any supply on a wanted item is supply constrained. It shouldn't be that difficult to meet demand.

A game system is different from a tv. Nintendo wants to put 3ds in as many hands as possible and sell games.

Advertising a special deal and making it really hard to get is extremely frustrating and results in bad will.

This is not a one time thing.

Rare amiibo. Nes mini. Rare games. And now this. Nintendo thought core and casual gamers and third party devs would like wiiu. They are clueless about their own market. It's frustrating

I'd say it is fair to be annoyed when I walk into Best Buy and see a wall of at least 100 PS4's, but Nintendo could not be bothered to ship even 10 systems to the store.

As someone else pointed out, there are other 3DS for sale throughout the year. There's a permanent deal at Target for $150 with Super Mario 3D Land. Which effectively makes the price of the n3DS $130.

Those TVs are available for sale whenever.

That is patently false. The Happy Home Designer n3DS came out about a year ago.

And to the TV comments, most of the stock is produced solely for Black Friday and thus not over-manufactured. I suspect Nintendo are trying to add a little buzz to the n3DS around the holidays and in conjunction with a new Pokemon game. It's working. I would not be shocked AT ALL if the 3DS is the winning hardware for the holiday NPDs.

[EDIT] And to the comment about rare amiibo fostering bad will, it also printed money for Nintendo with limited to no marketing budget. The Wii U launch was horrid, but the other things you point out are working.

If I gift a New 3DS to a child, do you reckon I should include a protective cover and screen protectors? I never use those on mine, but kids can be rough... Any recommendations?

Cover, yes. The faceplates can have a little bit of give that could get some gross grime in there. Screen protectors...only if an adult applies them. The best ones are notoriously difficult to get aligned properly and not have dust.

Exactly this.

To add to this i also suggest a carrying case for the console and games.

I ordered mine on Wednesday night with the free 5-8 day shipping. It arrived today.

But I ordered the charger and games separately and that's still waiting to ship :/

Yeah I would definitely apply the protectors myself. Can you recommend good ones (and cover)? Preferably on amazon.

I sound like a broken record, but we now know why NOA underships. As revealed by Itagaki, NOA gets bonuses when they sell out, so it's not in their initial best short term interest to massively over ship.

Does Itagaki have any confirmation that NoA specifically does this, or was this simply extrapolation based on tenuous knowledge of other companies?

I don't particularly trust the man who seemed to be completely oblivious that the demand for his game was not what it actually was.

No one is asking them to overship. Just ship a little bit more. I missed the damn thing at 2 different gamestops at 6am this morning. First one was when there were only 3 people left in front of me. After that I drove to a different one in my city, which had one left... but they were holding it for another store due to a "customer issue". There's no reason these stores should only get 5 or 6 units in. it's ridiculous.

Hori are always the one that get thrown around. You might have to import them or buy from a third party seller. I don't know if they're in English NA print yet, but the protectors are pretty cheap.

If this is true, it's gotta be one of the most idiotic and archaic business practices still in use in the modern gaming industry.

Nintendo just has no fucking clue at all, do they? If it weren't so frustrating, it would be comical.

I'm mad mostly because Nintendo has a god damn online store so why not put the nes Classic and 3DS Black Friday bundles for sale there too?

I've said this before but the UK Nintendo online store had amiibos for sale right from the start but the USA Nintendo online store never had them for sale

Just boggles my mind

There have to be some institutional level incentives that drives the weird overly conservative behavior. Ive said this starting from ds and wii era.

Game localizations are evaluated on a weird short term individual basis instead of factoring long term effects like software diversity ecosystem and customer goodwill.

I managed to get one so I'm not upset but this has been Nintendo's MO for ages.

As a kid it took forever to get my hands on an N64, The GBA SP was impossible to find at launch, it was almost 2 years before Wiis were easily found, some Wii/Wii U games are tough to find, Amazon is completely sold out of Pokémon Y and Omega Ruby right now and Moon/Sapphire aren't shipping until December, and now this whole 3DS dibacle (and I'm sure there are many many more instances).

It's like Nintendo just doesn't understand the amount of customers they have or it's intentional to generate more demand by limiting supply but holy crap you'd think there is plenty of Nintendo demand these days.

Edit: Also try getting your hands on a freaking NES Mini right now.

For a company that has 10 billion dollars in the bank, I would say they have a clue or two about what they're doing.

Clue in some areas not others.

Nintendo's story imo is one of genius ideas combined with missed opportunities. Their brands have tons of power yet held back by incompetence

This would require some kind of distributor deal or facilities to ship things. I suspect they've got a system that works with brick and mortar retailers that makes a direct store moot.

Just got a shipping confirmation from GameStop.

Im hoping I can do a return/rebuy and use my giftcard.

Also have an Amazon order pending. Any SGV (Los Angeles) gaffer need a 3DS approx delivered on the 1st-3rd?

I would really love to find out how many of these were actually sold these past couple of days. Is that something that is possible to find out?
