I really wish people would stop using hyperbole with the microtransactions, which are not needed in anyway shape or form. Especially not in Unity, except for people who want every item at the start of Sequence 3.

Well, it sucks to see Ubisoft cancelling the Season Pass, but with how the launch went it's probably for the best.

I'm going to reserve judgement until the "refund the season pass for a video game" is confirmed. But if the refund is a game and not credit I will laugh and cry at how bad that would be

This is way too rich. If true, Ubisoft has such little respect for their consumers I do not even know what to say. Glad I've been sitting out on this new generation of consoles with the way some companies are acting. If this is the way company's plan on treating consumers I do not mind sitting out on the sidelines.

been mentioned by others: ubi should've gone with cross-gen rogue this year (which would've sold just fine), & released unity in '15. i have no idea why they needed to get this game out, particularly given they had another one ready to go...

Probably know that they can not add content in the way they wanted as they have major issues in the game engine. Any new content likely having problems as well. Too much time to produce enough content to be acceptable for the pass.

Truth is Ubi designs games like this:
- Run on a Uber-Powerful rig
- Build for consoles
- Optimise from the 5fps they've managed

Step three is not complete. I think it was Giantbombcast where someone said that after the update PR other devs said 'it sounds like they did not finish development'.

I'll be very surprised if Ubisoft actually tries to do the "game as a refund" thing. There's no way it will fly. They'd get bombarded from every angle the second they announced it. Gotta think they have a bit more common sense than that.

It's not. Ubi will have to issue a refund unless they want to deal with a class action lawsuit.

EDIT: Never mind, season pass owners get all the content they were initially promised plus a free game. Win win

An Update on Assassin’s Creed Unity from Yannis Mallat

Unfortunately, at launch, the overall quality of the game was diminished by bugs and unexpected technical issues. We’ve been working hard to fix the problems players are reporting, and the patches we have released so far have resolved many of them. Another game as substitute for this season pass is not acceptable. That is not what people agreed to pay for. It's like giving me a hotdog when I paid for a hamburger and saying tough shit. Is this legal?

The launch of AC: Unity wasn't without its problems. To make it up, Ubisoft will hand out compensations. They have also issued an apology.

Ubisoft offers compensation for AC U launch.

AC: Unity owners will get the Dead Kings DLC for free.

Season Pass Owners / Gold Edition owners (who get that DLC anyway) will get free game, one of these: The Crew, Far Cry 4, Assassin's Creed: Black Flag, Rayman Legends or Just Dance (PS4 and Xbox One only)

Yep. Downloading now. Granted, no problems before so...will see how it performs now.

Was the first thing that crossed my mind. They announced it getting a patch, starting today.

Planned probably since last week, but were waiting until the patch was out to make it official. PS4 got the patch today, others will follow. Maybe will get a confirmation in some hours.

The will still give everyone what they paid for, it's just that they are also giving some or all of it to people that did not pay for it, so they will offer compensation for those that paid

At least that is what I expect -- I can't imagine they are canceling the DLC itself, so buyers will still get what they are owed

e: official statement confirms what I am saying -- they are no longer selling the season pass, but buyers will still get everything they were entitled to so no grounds for a refund. Ubi is compensating for the reduced value (because some of that content is now free) with a free game

Seems like a good deal, though I feel that season pass holders are probably actually owed their money back.

Still, some good deals in there that are worth more than the season pass cost.
