And the Incredible is a better phone, as is the Desire. If i'm spending $500+ on a phone, i'm getting what i want. i'd take a T-Mobile version of either of them and run it on AT&T EDGE over buying the AT&T N1.
The desire is identical, and the incredible is only slightly better (and in most cases people wont care).

That sounds pretty dumb to me since they're all so similar anyways, but whatever man buy what you want.

If you really want to nitpick the Incredible is lacking in a number of ways compared to the N1.

-buttons are mixed around (hey HTC, use the google standard and just leave it at that)
-no contacts for a dock
-usb on the side (odd choice)
-lack of a dual mic
-hideous backside
-apparently the screen scratches really easily as compared to the N1 or Desire

frankly though, if I was in the market, I'd pick up the Incredible in a heartbeat. I just wish people would just accept the fact there are multiple GOOD options out there, and there is no 'wrong' choice.

Like I said over in the Iphone 4G thread (This one is more appropriate), the biggest difference between the Nexus One and the Incredible is the touchscreen sensor.

The incredible uses the Atmel mXT224 while the N1 uses the Clearpad 2000. This is the cause of the multitouch bug and non-responsive (having to press the upper half) capacitive buttons. To me this is a deal breaker as the touchscreen is your input device to interact with your phone.

Now I don't know how much these bugs hinder the N1, but if I was going to buy a new phone, I wouldn't want to have any problems with the touch screen. Just wanted to put this out there for people deciding what to buy because I keep on seeing posts saying the N1/Desire/Incredible are identical. Hopefully when the N1 is released on Verizon, HTC will also update the sensor in that phone too.

That might be what's taking so long for that version, but I doubt it.

Samsung Galaxy S to all 4 major US Carriers?

http://androidandme.com/2010/04/news/samsung-galaxy-s-to-all-4-major-u-s-carriers/

Kinda odd...the story goes no carrier was interested in it enough...so they all agreed to take it...not sure how that makes sense, but sure.

I like it's speed and screen but it's a Samsung and it's got that Touchwiz crap, now with 100% more iPhone imitation, so I am disappoint.

Yeah, could be good. On paper the specs seem amazing but the weird form factor and TouchWiz could sink it. Though I do like this trend of a single phone being made available for all of the big four.

As a day one n1 owner I would simply answer with "rarely in real world applications if at all."

To All new/future Android users be carefull and don't buy a 32gig microSD card. Seems Android has a bug that doesn't allow it to format the cards properly.

Flying under the radar for the most part, there is an apparent flaw with Android that wasn't picked up by many users. One user who owned a Google Nexus One had a problem trying to format a 32GB microSD card so he could use it with his phone. Unfortunately Android doesn't like to play nice with cards at that capacity and is unable to format the higher-capacity memory card which are listed as being compatible with a handful of devices running the platform. Google didn't beat around the bush and clearly confirmed that it was a problem. With the expensive cost of purchasing a 32GB microSD card, there are probably plenty of owners who resort to something much smaller – so the problem probably didn't affect a large amount of users. Luckily though, Google has already corrected the flaw that affects all Android phones and will shortly release the update for it. A Google representative said, “This issue has been fixed, and will be part of our next over-the-air update. We don't have a specific timeframe to share at this time.”

Maybe the newer HTC phones already have this bug squashed? But who knows.

i wouldnt hold my breath on that one, its not going to happen. the multi-touch bug is a bug you have to force to happen, and apparently can be adjusted for in software. We shall see for the next ota nexus one update.

as far as the 32gb issue, they have a window of time to take care of it before they become affordable. You can always format them on your computer if you have a reader (who doesnt anymore?) but hopefully the update will be out before they become widely affordable

where is the info on the incredible scratching easier? i beat the crap out of my nexus and the screen doesnt have a scratch.

A 600 MHz ARM11 processor
512MB RAM, 512MB on-board storage
A 5MP autofocus camera with LED flash
An 8GB MicroSD card included in the box
Android 2.1 with HTC’s Sense UI and multi-touch support
If this thing had a better processor and higher resolution screen, I'd be all over it. Still, beats the pants off my G1 in everything but the keyboard: G1 has a 5 row, this is 4 (no dedicated number row); although not having a chin allows the Slide to have bigger buttons.

It's no superphone, but still an obvious jump up from the G1. If it comes in at a LOW PRICE, it'd be tempting to pick up because you just know there's going to be a Nexus Two announcement later this year ;)

With keyboards becoming rarer you'd probably be lucky to find a good Android phone with one at all, let alone 5 rows.

Edit- 512 MB RAM, keyboard, and 2.1 with Sense actually sounds pretty good. If it's like $150 or less it'll be a pretty great addition to T-Mo.

Yeah, that's my line of thinking as well. As much as I'd love a Nexus One, $500 is a lot of change for me right now. The slide could be a nice stopgap until the next Nexus, assuming it's priced $150 or lower.

Not that I'm holding my breath for the next Nexus, but I would expect at least an announcement sometime this year.

I wouldn’t go for it unless it was $100 or under. An ARM11 is really slow for 2010. Look for Cortex A8 at least.

Anyone buy monthly insurance on their phone? Is it worth it? I'm worried I'm going to drop it one day...
I have it on T Mo. I pay $6 a month. For me it was worth it, I suppose, because my screen cracked. I had to pay a $130 deductable, which was better than paying full price (like $300 or something). The insurance provider was a lot more helpfull then I'd anticipated, they shipped the new phone overnight the next day, came with a new charger and wired earpiece.

I would would say it's worth it, especially if you have a newer, more expensive device.

Can't remember the name, but it had ragdoll androids.

If it's the one I'm thinking of, it uses the accelerometer to fling Androids around. Yeah, that would be a pretty big battery killer :lol Most of the Market live wallpapers drain battery kinda bad, I only stick to the official ones. Neural Network has been kind to me, so has Polar and Galaxy.

I think it's really nice and the specs are cool. Nothing too interesting, but hooray for physical keyboard.

so are they not shipping the incredible out until next week. My order still says awaiting approval. Has anyone's phone shipped yet.

looks like some people ordered their incredible thru the phone (when it's supposed to be online only), and the CSR shipped out the phones not knowing the phone hasn't been released yet.

I'd wager it's only going to be a yearly model update, so we won't see it until the end of the year, like the first one.

Thinking about getting the Incredible. It would be my first smart phone. My current phone is a Samsung Flipshot. Right now I'm still on my parents really old verizon plan so I would be paying the difference to get data and text on the device, so the device would end up costing me $35 a month in subscription fees to my parents.

Problem is my Dad doesn't know why I need a phone like this. I have an ipod touch but I can't use that as a phone and only get data through a wifi signal. The thing is that I have a job where we can't bring any cell phones in the complex so I wouldn't be able to use the phone during the weekdays for 8 hours.

How is the voice mail on these devices? I don't want to pay for visual voice mail a month but the standard voice mail setup verizon has just pisses me off. Is it any different on this device?

If you could get someone to donate you a Google Voice invite, you could use that for voicemail. The Android GV app has visual voicemail, message transcription, and SMS, so you wouldn't have to pay for text messaging either.

Wow that sounds really nice. So all text messages are free through this as well? Do the messages come through the GV App or through the phones default message inbox? Now if only I could get an invite to this service. Thanks for the info!

to those of you with the Desire ..can you confirm or not that it has the same multitouch bugs as the N1 showed in that video linked too above?

And 2.2 is coming in May for Google I/O. Sigh.

That's not 100% guaranteed but it does look like a possibility. With all the negative fragmentation press i'm not sure if it's a good idea to release it early, even though as a Nexus user i'd be on that thing like a rash! :D

Anyone who'd pre-ordered the Incredible received it yet?

I have a feeling this talking point about different OS versions and screen resolutions will magically go away when Apple releases a new iPhone with higher resolution screen and prevents the oldest models from updating to OS 4 in a few weeks.

I believe to address that issue specifically, Google will be releasing (all) portions of their updates for download in the Android market starting with 2.2.

that'd be pretty cool, do you have a source for that?

Hey guys, I'm coming up for an upgrade to my current phone in the next week or so and when my operating company called me today they were banging on about giving me a HTC Desire. I did a bit of googling and found out it is an android pone and seems to have good review, but I don't really know much about phones, what is that all about? I've never had one of these smart phones before and I've honestly got no idea what they're about. My only experience with somehting like this is a quick fiddle with an iPhone.

Is the Desire considered a good phone? Will it be a solid choice for an 18 month contract? Can you get apps or whatever easily like the iPhone? I mean, I don't really now about those either, but if my sisters boyfriend can get apps on an iPhone it must be easy. Do android phones have a similar deal? Sorry for the really lame questions, but last time I took the phone the guy was pushing on me, no questions and it was a horrible piece of crap.

Had my X10 for a week now.

The good.

+ Oh that giant screen
+ Oh that giant screen
+ Oh that giant screen :D
+ Oh that giant screen
+ Fantastic Camera
+ I could get my cock out and fuck this phone it looks so pretty (White version)
+ Superb sound quality in audio
+ Nice social networking features
+ It's nice and fast, especially with GFX intensive games - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0EuXM987F0&feature=player_embedded

The bad.

- No multitouch. Not too much of a biggie personally, as I've tried the pinching and spreading on a friends iPhone and didn't like it all that much, but I can see why it would bug some people who are used to it. And it's a bummer for emulators, although 2 button machines like NES ect could possibly get around it by mapping some of the buttons like the volume controls to do game actions.
- Shitty tiny onscreen keyboard - thankfully a HTC Hero keyboard hack is just a Google away which solves all the problems.
- Android 1.6 rather then 2.1. Apparantly an upgrade is coming, but will have to wait till Sept. Grrrrr...rumour is they may jump straight to 2.2.

Battery life is reported as being an issue. But I've not had any problems. I get a full days use out of it - I've discharged the battery fully a few times as I always do with new kit though.

Anyone in the UK got Google Earth Navigation though? When I go to the store I don't see a newer version of Google Earth?!

Navigation isn't in Google Earth, it's in Google maps ;) As for the cock comment :lol

It's a great phone, one of the top smartphones available right now. The only caveat with most high-end phones nowadays is you will have to get used to charging it more often (possibly every night depending on how much you use it).
