I put it on mine when I got my phone about a week ago or so. Having to do that pattern thing every time to unlock my phone is annoying (especially when listening to Pandora in the car), but I guess it's worth it if I ever misplace it. Plus the thought of bricking your phone from orbit is kind of cool. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't an official Android one out there.

once you have the pattern on you can go on the website and disable the pattern from your phone, this will let you go on the website to re-enable it if you ever lose your phone. So just go disable it, if you ever lost it, first thing you do is enable the pattern lock and then track it

Well holy shit. :lol Thank you so much for that awesome information. This makes my phone experience so much better.

Looks like auto updates will be included in Froyo. Cant wait!

I was just on the app store looking for the new version of google maps, but I guess since my phone isn't 2.1 yet, I can't see it in the app store? I'm new at this stuff, so I'm throwing out my guesses to get feedback from you experienced users.

What is the best way to manage numerous email accounts from a droid. I will be getting the incredible and need to use three different gmail accounts.

Side note I just check all three on desktop, is there a better way to link these up but still have them separate. Should I use mac mail app or thunderbird?

I'll add to this question. Is K9 still the best email app? It does this extremely annoying visual thing where it "blacks-out" all the email headers when I scroll down so I can't see them. I have to scroll back up/down again to get the screen to refresh and fix the glitch. Love the app other than that, but it pisses me off enough to look for an alternative.

In 2.1, you can sync with multiple gmail accounts. You can use either the Gmail app or the stock Mail app and just hit Menu > Accounts when you want to switch from one to the other. You'll still get notifications for each one though, as long as you have them setup to sync automatically.

If you have one of the past revisions of Google Maps the navigation is alread there - I know it doesn't make sense. I looked and looked but couldn't find it then found a site that indicated it's 'there' for newer builds of Google Map. Tried it out today. Works very well. :)

Am I the only one not looking forward to automatic updates? Sometimes Android app updates break the app for me, I prefer to read the reviews before updating.

looking at that photo above, we'll be able un-check the automatic updates option.

It looks to be optional so people such as yourself can just defer auto updates.

EDIT: Beated.

Ahh, good stuff. Thanks for the reply. :D

Use the the iPhone web address, works perfectly on androids. http://secondapps.com/neogaf/

Thanks.

Another quesstion but not about apps. When you're setting a wallpaper for your homescreen, is there anyway you can make it so it doesn't have to be cropped just it can be spread across several panels? That is, I just want it it to remain the same image the whole time, ala the "lock" wallpaper.

Ringdroid is definitely awesome.

Facebook was updated today. It looks cleaner and nicer and added inbox. It's still a crap app imo and I don't think it justifies its existance, I prefer the touch website and only use the app randomly. I don't even use the widget anymore so I could honestly uninstall it and not care.

The app honestly isn't that bad and does a lot right. Even still, it annoys me because:

1. Still relies on mobile website, wtf.
2. No push notifications. Fine. But no red "look to see if you have notifications" like on desktop or touch Facebook, either.
3. You can't click the profile picture to see it, you have to hunt for it in their albums > default album > click picture.
4. No chat. Not a huge deal, but it's missing.
5. webOS Facebook app is getting/has Facebook video support. WTF? Android has more users. Why does webOS have cooler features. Not saying it's a better app, but its being given cooler features.
6. Profiles don't show activity, such as "Friend posted on friend's wall" or "Friend joined this group." It only shows actual posts. This makes no sense.

Why is the Android app such a mess. :/

gotta recommend: Ringdroid

http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.ringdroid

free app "Create your own ringtone by editing a music track in your library, or record a new one directly from the phone." also can make notification sounds and alarm.

I used it to make these 2 ringtones:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5994744/tones/TheGhostfacedPixel1.mp3

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5994744/tones/TheGhostfacedPixels2.mp3

hit the about button to get some tips on how to use it.
HTC desire has a ringtone creator built in. works perfectly too. You should hunt down the apk

Sorry for the double post but it aint me its this damned neogaf app.
Whenever i click reply on the htc desire it takes me off to the full neogaf website, whereas on my iphone it stays within the web app.

Did you sign in on that website? I remember people who were talking in the thread said that they didn't sign in on the mobile site and it would take them to the desktop site, but after they signed in the site posting worked the way it should.

Does anyone know the exact steps to set up bluetooth tether using PdaNet? I can't seem to get it to work.
It seemed a bit hard to get going when I tried it, turn off all apps that use the internet using something like taskpanel and try again.

If you've got a phone showing up in devices and printers, and you're on android 2.1 try it WITHOUT PdaNet.

turn on internet tethering in your phone's wireless settings then create a new dial up networking connection on your computer using 'standard Bluetooth modem' if it appears.. the dialling number is usually *99# and as the settings for the apn are on the phone you shouldn't need a username and password.

Make sure your User Agent is set to Android or iPhone. Its in the settings for your browser.

You should log in using the login button on the main page not the reply button before it. Then you will remain logged in and the reply button will work fine.

The other 46 apps on my Droid lol at this statement.
What do you have installed?

I have
Album Art Grabber
Amazon
Astro
Barcode
scanner
digg
dmupdater
engadget
fast camera
fcc test
fx camera
gameboid
genzoid
giant bomb
listen
mototorch LED
Note Me
Pandora
qik
VNC
Ringdroid
SetCPU
swiftp
twicca
Google Voice
Ustream
Voice Recorder
Wavesecure
Where
Wikidroid
Meebo

Nearly all of them are crappy.
The official google ones like listen and voice are pretty good, as are the official website apps like Qik, Pandora and Digg etc..

Meebo is seriously just good enough to use, and I've tried nearly every IM app on the marketplace.

The emulators, wikidroid and VNC are passable but don't have any polish and crash quite a bit. How come in VNC when I press the home button and then go back to it, it crashes?! EVERYTIME. It's ridiculous.

Maybe my initial statement of "all android apps are crap" is a bit hyperbolic, but "Most android apps are just barely good enough to use on a daily basis" doesn't sound that much better.

Phone: Nexus One
93 total, 93 free (100%), 0 paid (0%), 59MB total size, $0 total price

I also have Swype, which is the best text input method today if you learn how to use it. I also have the HTC touch keyboard as well.

A few of these I am just testing, and a have a selection of "baby apps" for my daughter.

I don't really have any problems with any of my apps. Twit.tv does take a little while to load sub menus. I am going to see if creating a media fly account speeds things up.

Aldiko is prolly my fave app on my hero , especially since you can import epubs :)

Im still waiting on freaking telus for the android software update over here...

supposedly may 1st but they keep pushing it back , bastards..

Does Caligo require a newer android os than 1.5 ? its not even letting me install it...

Edit ; Same with zenonia , and i have over 1gb free...does it decompress to something stupid huge or what? im confused

My favorites are the supercool ones like Where's My Droid, iSyncr, 3Banana, Wifi Explorer Pro, ones that add some cool functionality and think outside the box. I love the more typical ones, lie Slacker and ShopSaavy, but the ones that are more like functionality plugins rather than standalone apps impress me the most. I don't have a news or weather app because I use the 2.1 news/weather widget/app.

I'm pretty satisfied with Android app offerings.

Hm, gonna have to check out isyncr.
Does the phone just show up under itunes like an ipod?
Also, does it require any software install on the computer side? I'm on osx, btw.

Anyone know of cool apps that make use of the notification pane? I just got Status Notes (mini note reminders in pane) and Gesture Search Bar (launch gesture search from pane) and I'm loving them. I tried out Quick Settings but I use the Power Control widget and that does all I need, so its not for me.

Any other cool ones?

imo iSyncr is the absolute best way to sync iTunes to Android, but it's not exactly done within iTunes.

You open the iSyncr app on your phone first and then plug it in to your computer. In the file explorer, you launch the iSyncr.exe (or .whatever for the mac version) and it springs up a small window, essentially what you see when you choose to manage your iPod manually in iTunes and have to select what to sync. It has your music, playlists, whatever, in a list. You check what you want and hit sync and it syncs it over very fast.

No doubles, no issues at all, other than Android's own annoying way of listing an album each time for every artist on it if it's a compilation.

WOW! Thanks for posting and chewing up much of my lunch hour looking over those apps. Some of those are really nice. I'll be busy tonight. That website and the app and the "AppBrainMarket Sync" is AWESOME!
