I guess you can see berg's post - I never use astrid. I use two different things for tasks depending what for - a shortcut/bookmark on the desktop to google tasks or Our Groceries. While the latter is meant to let you cross off groceries as you buy, I've found it also works well for various notes or even tasks....

I think this works because I have never been one to make detailed tasks - more like keep it simple one liners instead of some type of mini MS Project replacement :)

I totally love the Swift Keyboard, but it's a paid one. I can actually type on my X10 mini in portrait mode with a full qwerty. That in itself is an amazing feat.
 
Open Feint released a wave of new Android games. Most important is Cestos 2 - the online multiplayer game of shooting marbles/balls at other players in various game modes. Really fun and free.

Registration is closed right now, but if you've already registered you can log in and download the Sept beta.

If you're not registered for the beta try installing this version (I think I got it from XDA, but I can't seem to find the thread anymore). I can't promise it'll work, but it's worth a shot. Make sure you uninstall the old version before installing the new version. Go to Settings → Applications → Manage Applications → Swype → Force Close if its running and then Uninstall. Do the same for SwypeInstaller if you have it. Once you're sure it's wiped from your phone, install the version I posted.

So is there any way to change the view in the default Google gallery picture viewer app? The layout is slow and clunky, I prefer the layout that's usable in the camera app. Or maybe there's a better picture viewer?
 
Help!

My brother passed me his old HTC Hero, which had Launcher Pro installed. I'd been getting messages for a few days telling me to go to their site to update otherwise I'd lose LP capabilities, but I though it was only the widget I never used.. Now I can barely do anything on my phone =x

I have Transfers turned off by default to save battery, so now I can't update from the phone, and I have no access to anything, to turn Transfers back on..

How do I get out of this?
 
I'm using Launcher Pro and I have 4 apps that dropped below the dock as I was arranging stuff.

Any idea on a fix? I can't get at them, when I try to select them, it just selects the dock icons.

I did "Reset Defaults" and they are still under the dock. Even if I flip orientation, I can't get at them. Do I have to uninstall and reinstall Launcher Pro?

EDIT: Fixed it! For some reason "5 Icon rows in homescreen" got unchecked (it was checked before...), but when I re-enabled it, it shifted the lost icons back up.
 
so whats the deal with swype anyways?

I keep seeing that it's in beta/not released to the public/trial only, yet it came installed on my phone? (Droid2)

Do only newer phones have it preinstalled?

Are you able to use anything at all?
Try pressing menu and select settings. Go to applications and find Launcher Pro. Select it and clear defaults. When you press the home button it should ask you what launcher to use. Select HTC Sense or whatever and you should be able to navigate through there and update and set up whatever you want.

can you get to settings? If so, go to applications, select launcher pro, and remove the default option. Hit 'Home', and your phone should ask you to choose which launcher to use, and choose stock. Then uninstall Launcher pro and reinstall the free version.

What is ADW? Just got a X yesterday and running LP fine w/o any problems. Hopefully it stays this way as it makes everything look so much nicer.
 
I added a contact shortcut to the desktop, and the icon is just a grey silhouette of a person. Any way to change the icon to the person's contact photo? I see you can change an app's icon if you so into the SD card and replace the icon's image file, but is there a way to just do it on the phone?

Or should I be adding contact shortcuts a different way? I see that there is a nice 4 or 12 person contact grid with Launcher Pro, but you need the pay version for that. I'll probably just buy it.

Also, sometimes my 3G status says "1x"... does this mean I'm not getting 3G coverage where I'm at??

ALSO, what is the circle with 2 arrows inside on the Power Control widget? It's the same symbol as "HDMI" under the general settings, but why would HDMI need a toggle?

Hmm, maybe this is what is going on with me. My phone randomly reboots or freezes, and then when it is fully booted up again, the whole thing locks up for a good period of time.

Is ADW comparable?

I left Launcher Pro a little while after he introduced widgets, they were fucking shit up and causing lag and redraw everywhere. I came back to LP+ yesterday because Froyo launcher has some lag and I missed LP and it's running perfectly now. I love the popups!

Also, you bitches really need to get on Cestos 2. It's a lot of fun.

Goddamit I've been trying to fix this shit for eight hours now. FUCK YOU LAUNCHER PRO. Fuck you.

I concur. Does anyone know if this works as a multiplayer game with iPhone players? I asked my cousin to get it, but he could only find Cesto: Some Different Subtitle Here

I honestly have no idea how launcher pro could effect so much of your phone.. can you take a picture of the screen which allows you to access call, contacts and sms, just so we know what we have to work with in solving this?

Yeah, I had this problem too yesterday. Here's the fix (you'll need adb):

- First, get the latest Launcherpro from the site:
http://www.launcherpro.com/apk/LauncherPro-0.8.1.0.apk
- Copy that file to the root of your sdcard. If you have transfers off, reboot in recovery and select USB mode. If you don't have the recovery mode on this phone, just use an external sdcard reader, anything with a sdcard reader and usb mass storage support will do, (phone, APN...)
- Reboot (maybe not needed if your sdcard is properly unmounted/rescanned)

Then open a terminal and:

    adb shell
    # cp /sdcard/LauncherPro-0.8.1.0.apk /system/app/Launcher2.apk
    # exit
    adb reboot

That shoud do it.

I'd already done the first steps myself, but could you be more precise with the Terminal. I'm far from an Android expert, haven't had much time to play with it yet.
 
Just got a G2 yesterday. Can anyone suggest some good starter apps? I have no idea what to look for. Thank you for your help.

Welcome to the Android party. My first recommendation would be to (1)download the Appbrain app and (2)download Fast Web Installer. Appbrain is a better organized market portal to the actual market, and it has a website for easy nav. Much more enjoyable and productive to browse from that site. With fast web installer you can install apps over the air from the site to your g2 in one click.

Other than that, here's a link to my Appbrain Currently Installed Apps. Click the names for description and shots. Cool stuff like Awesome Drop (wireless transfers from browser to phone), Where's My Droid (text phone to make it ring/give gps), Catch (best note app&cloud sync), etc.

ADB is a command line tool from the Android SDK to communicate with your phone over USB. I just realize now that if your phone is not setup to automatically enable the USB debug interface, that may not work. Anyway, you can try, just install ADB (Windows or Linux) and enter the commands. If you ever recover this phone, you'll be an Android expert :lol
 
Best music player? The stock one isn't TERRIBLE. I mean it's definitely usable. Maybe I should just wait until Android 3.0 to see if they do a big media player update?
