Yeah, I'm running Launcher Pro, so Ill give these a go as well. Nice recommendations, I'm headed to the market as we speak.IcebergSlim3000 said:Look for Feedr. Also if youre running an alternate launcher look for Scrollable News. Its decent replacement to the HTC rss widget.
I think you need froyo?VanMardigan said:So I'm using my wife's captivate for a few days, how do I get the new gmail and youtube on this? I don't see them in the market.
Can you elaborate on this? On my Desire the rotation works fine in compass mode, but it doesn't work like the guy does it in the official Google video i.e. he holds the phone flat and uses two fingers to rotate the map.DefectiveReject said:The rotation works fine on my Desire.

What is the #1 site to go to for Android news, or like the #1 forum for Android so I can get myself "in the loop" and learn as much as I can before the device arrives?
jonnybryce said:Android And Me is a good website, they break a lot of stories. Phandroid, Android Central and Droid Life are other good ones.
For forums, here and reddit's Android section fit the bill for me. I'm not sure what forum is the most active, but for discussions those are good.
You don't have to turn them on - as soon as you go into 3d mode, they'll popup. But they don't exist for every location yet, only major cities. Try New York and Los Angeles, for example.Futureman said:How do you turn the 3D buildings on in Google Maps?

JCX said:Is there a way to use my evo as a wifi receiver for my desktop?
Ugh, that sucks. You would think Google could just create an option that allows you to use contact photos pulled from your phone's memory instead of the ones it pulls from Google Contacts.kaching said:GatorBait, I don't think there's any way to selectively synch contacts in Stock Android. You could turn off synching, but that would obviously be all or nothing.

I don't understand your problem. Why don't you want to sync the contact?GatorBait said:Here is sort of a weird question:
With stock Android, if you are synced to Google Contacts, can you add a contact to your phone only so that it doesn't sync up with Google Contacts? I can do this on my phone that has Sense on it, but I can't remember if you can do it on stock Android. (On my phone I create a "phone" contact and then link it with its corresponding Google contact as a work around so my contact pictures don't look like pixelated pieces of shit. :lol)

The fact that you can actually use the "phone contact" workaround on Sense to get nice contact photos is one of the aesthetic positives I like about Sense. (Of course, if Google fixed the problem, no workaround would be necessary in the first place... Got my fingers crossed Duarte fixes that shit in 3.0.)
How much? I am going to Prague in a week and thinking of doing that. How can I disable data or will a prepaid sim kill it?Ephemeris said:I'd say.. swap out Tmo sim for one wherever you're visiting (prepaid). Did that for my euro trip last year.
Does it matter if my phone is not rooted? It should still work, correct?Ephemeris said:I'd say.. swap out Tmo sim for one wherever you're visiting (prepaid). Did that for my euro trip last year.
I would love for them to get a good version of gingerbread for the Captivate working. I was waiting for AT&T to roll out Froyo but ended up using the one off of XDA and with it taking this long to get Froyo I do not expect the Captivate to get gingerbread any time soon if it gets it at all.jd196 said:For those interested, rapid progress has been made on a Gingerbread port for the galaxy S being that both devices are so similar.

You want to use your phone as a wireless bridge? Why would you want to do that as isn't that the point to have data on a phone?JCX said:Not as a wireless hotspot. If you are also synced with Google Contacts, the picture you set as a contact photo will be synced up to Google Contacts. The problem with that is Google Contacts has a 96x96 cap on the dimension of their contacts photos. So if you set a 200x200 image as a contact photo for someone, it will be shrunk to 96x96 after your next sync. You end up with a 96x96 photo stretched out to a 200x200 box when you make/receive calls, which makes it horribly blurry/pixelated.tabsina said:I'm a little confused, you can do this...
Open Contacts App > Pick a person > Menu > Edit Contact > Touch the photo > Change Icon > Select photo from gallery
Unless you are talking about something else

Called and they told me to contact Google. Called Google and they had an automated message telling me to call HTC for all my Nexus One needs. Called them and they were closed lol.Ephemeris said:Rooted doesn't matter. Gotta make sure it's unlocked though. Call t-mobile; if you've been with them for a little while (45 or 90+days? I really don't remember lol Could be 180!) they'll do it for ya for free !
Had them hook me up when I talked to them via online chat. Had my girlfriend call customer care last week while she was at the airport heading to Barbados. Only "catch" is that they get back to you in 24 hours.
Funny thing is, when I went to london, I ended up using T-mobile over there and surprise! I didn't have to unlock my US tmo phone to use their sim after all. lol
