Anyone else buying the Slim over the Pro?

Wouldn't the smartest thing be to wait until the pro launches and pick a secondhand regular PS4 on the cheap from the people wanting to upgrade?

Eh, the Pro's performance at 1080p will be betterish than the slim... but betterish enough to justify the additional cost?

Probably not. Especially if you're fine with 1080p already. Just get the Slim.

Hell, I have a 4K HDR TV and I'm finding it hard to justify getting a Pro over my normal PS4.

Have you used your TV to see 4K programming with HDR? If so, I don't know how you could say that... The upgrade is substantial.

I haven't been one to appreciate high resolution textures or any high end effects and I don't care much about resolution. Unless the Pro increases frame rates across the board I might as well get a Slim and buy the PS4 Double Pro in two years

When the time comes, I'm looking to get an OG ps4 from someone who intends to upgrade to a pro...

I think that's the most cost effective way to get in on the action.

PS4 Pro is a pointless purchase if you don't own or plan on buying a 4K television soon.

1080P HD games on standard PS4 look fantastic already. The new slim model will suffice for most people especially at $299.

The Pro seems to be geared towards spec whores and people who need the latest and greatest or those that have a 4K TV set already.

Like I said in a post before, the omission of a 4K Bluray drive on a machine marketed as a 4K media device is stupid and makes no sense, especially when Sony is the sole creator of the Bluray format and main backer.

Yeah, I'm also team slim if I end up buying it. Both re going to be dted technologically quite fast, s I'll rather have the extra 100€. Also, who knows if Sony will release a Super Pro in a couple of years.

no im not paying 500 canadian dollars for a console where most games will still be 30fps

ill pick up a slim for cheap next year around the time horizon comes out

I'll just go for what's cheapest.
For me it's just to play the exclusives.
Same games with nicer graphics isn't something I care about.

Still use my PC from 2008 to play the latest games.

If I ever did get a PS4, I'd get the slim for sure, I'd only want it for the exclusives anyway, so not worth spending extra dosh if I'm just getting a few games, if I want eye-candy I have my PC.

Obviously the crowd on GAF is geared more towards the Pro but I feel like Sony is going to sell a shitload of slims this holiday. Parents buying a gift for their 12 year old aren't going to care about the Pro.

I'm an XB1-only guy at the moment, but I'm planning to buy a PS4 slim next year, when the price drops again. I'm not in a rush to buy a 4K TV, so no sense in getting a Pro (or Scorpio) at the premium prices.

OP, you get a LOT of advantages with Pro on a 1080p TV.

If I owned a 4K TV, I would still play games in 1080p mode to get the prettier graphics, which 4K resolution will likely not get... they may even get scaled down.

Everyone who buys a Slim will have buyer's remorse at some point.

I asked a friend that works for a major UK retailer how preorders of the two respective SKUs are going and apparently the pro is outselling the slim 5:1 currently.

I can't see that being fully representative of demand, but I was very surprised. Particularly as this is not a game or electronic specialist retailer.

The system noise is the only important factor to me, that's why I've sold my old PS4 after a frustrating run of Bloodborne. BC could have convinced me of Pro, while I don't care about the power boost. The Slim will also not be sold at the original 300 for long. In fact, it's already getting bundled with games, so there's that.

I was planning to get a pro in hopes of getting more games at 60fps, but at the moment, it seems devs want to focus on better graphics. I might just get a slim if this doesn't change.

I'd argue the opportunity cost is with the Pro. You do get benefits at 1080p in games as Rise of the Tomb Raider demonstrates. And I think you could easily snag a controller and Fifa for a tidy sum during holiday sales.

At least for me I try to maximize my purchase on the rate opportunities I have the amount of disposable income required for a console purchase.

Edit: I'm going Pro and selling my slim.

How much do you think you'll get for the slim?

My PS4 broke awhile ago and I want to buy the slim Thursday, and I'm debating whether I'll keep it or sell for Pro when Pro comes out

The CPU is the same as the OG model. I doubt any games will get a boost to 60FPS.

Simply down to the official SRP's which is IMO obviously set in the UK to favour the Pro: 1TB slim £310, 1TB Pro £350.

No brainer. I still say the 500GB slim should and could have been £199.

I've had a PS4 for 2 years now but even if i hadn't i'd rather buy the slim and wait for PS5 which hopefully will be able to support true native 4k by then and not this poor man's "upgrade".
I also convinced a friend of mine (who doesn't have a PS4) to buy the PS4 slim instead and invest the 100$ on games.

Not getting the Slim but if I was I'd hold off. I'm thinking there will probably be a lot of aggressive holiday deals on the Slim in November/December. I don't really expect any for the Pro.

I'll probably get the slim. I do have a 4k TV, but I don't really care all that much about graphics in games. The only reason I even have the 4k TV is because it was a pretty sweet deal last Black Friday and I wanted a nice smartTV.

At this point if you buy slim you should get banned.

Elitist much?

My dilemma OP. I want that slim because it seems so minimalist and compact, but i would advocate Pro cause its only 100$ more and notably will give a better experience.

The performance bump is going to be marginal. If someone is okay with slumming it at 1080P 30FPS already, then I don't see why they'd spend an extra 100 bucks to slum it at 1080P 30FPS with marginally better textures.

If you think medium to ultra graphic settings, or 1080p to 1440p, 1800p, or above, and stabler performance metrics is marginal sure. But i think a lot of people would disagree.

It doesn't matter if you have a 1080p or a 4K TV, your going to see a significant difference in quality compared to PS4 regardless of what set you have.

I wouldn't honestly. For a bit more money you'll get a system that runs better even at 1080p

Though I can understand the appeal of a game and controller

Yeah. There's no way I would have ALL of my games look worse, for the lifetime of the system, just to get a bundled controller and game at launch..

Games on pro are going to look fantastic on 1080p sets. Especially ones that have resolution/IQ problems on OG PS4's.

Pro won't deliver this 4k games people are expecting... it will indeed increase the 1080p gaming experience for a new level.

That for $50 more.

And I'm sure they will be Black Friday bundles with one retail game st $399 for Pro.

It was made clear in some review afterwards that not all games are going to be 4k. But having a 4K TV I can tell you 1080 looks fantastic and even if they have a higher resolution that isn't exactly 1080 then it will still look sharp.

Was going to buy a slim but lack of optical in (since I have Astros) makes the pro the only option for me but I really really want the slim. I like the design so much better than the Pro thats just ugly.

The 1TB PS4 Slim and Xbox One S models are awful value relative to the PS4 Pro so no, I don't think you're doing the right thing. £40-50 extra for a massive upgrade is no brainer.

Either get the 500GB Slim bundled with a free game you want or don't bother with it IMO.

My 4k BluRays beg to differ.

OP get him a gift card and let him choose. Win/Win

I'm doing the same. I'm only getting a PS4 to play a few exclusives, and I have a really good PC for eye melting graphics. That extra hundred bucks (even more here) isnt worth it when the games are identical, just looking better isnt enough

I'll go Slim too...

1) Smaller, quieter. This is a big deal to me.
2) It's $100 cheaper but the bundle comes with Uncharted 4, so really it's $150 cheaper
3) Already have a PC for multiplats and even then I can barely spot the difference in graphics, it's only worth it for 60 fps which is not happening with the Pro anyway
