EDIT: WOOPS... missed that it already had its own thread. https://www.neogaf.com/threads/david-jaffe-creator-of-god-of-war-annoyed-by-forum.1468982/

David Jaffe, creative director behind the first few God of War and Twisted Metal games, reacts to ResetERA's barrage of hatred for stating that while he doesn't agree with Milo Yiannopoulos's views, the man should still have the ability to speak his mind:

And the ensuing Era thread:

https://www.resetera.com/threads/da...f-war-has-a-bone-to-pick-with-resetera.85351/

Spoiler Alert:
Jaffe gives a great summary and explanation of why a lot of people on NeoGAF are critical of (and annoyed by) ResetEra's moderation and posters, and the cultural trends that they represent.

His ending words in the video - "ya fuckin morons" - are all they really they deserve.
Ok. Which one of you is Jaffe? Be brave now David.

I think that is too glib. A lot of the best known users got unceremoniously thrown out from here after years of quality posting with nobody (moderators and EviLore) bothering to stand up for them . They were seen as disposable. But a forum is the community.

It will take time and effort to get people to come back.
By whom were they thrown out? Even proper users suicided with porn and for what?

Perhaps Evil should have been quicker to response back then, but he has done so since.

It was certain staff that killed a lot of goodwill here. And unironically, that is happening again on ERA.

It's funny how any thread here involving Resetera has 100 times more traffic than anything else. Both sides come out looking pathetic to be honest.
So what would you suggest, then? Again, was it really worth coming back from years ago just to make a comment that isnt new?

It’s funny how you’re like the 1000th person to say this. Is this a program?

Let me try something...

format c: /s

Did it work?
I actually know that user. Kinda disappointed he did not read further.

I'm assuming he's talking about bans that happened well before October 2017 and the mass exodus.

This place was not innocent, even years and years before that. As much as some members will ignore or sugarcoat it, NeoGAF was a circus of ban-entertainment, groupthink, and dogpiling for at least half a decade before ResetEra was created. We shouldn't forget that ResetEra, for all the criticism it's getting here now, is mostly composed of former NeoGAF participants.

I’d really love to see an open Gaf thread there and see the shitstorm that arises.

There would be a lot of that’s an alt right site and whatever, but I also feel a lot of users would vent about the moderation there and open a floodgate of anger that I would love to witness.

Sadly they shit those topics down quick, because they know what they are in for when it happens. You can feel it bubbling over there.

Anything remotely right of extremist left is considered alt right or Nazi by those drones.

Thanks for the hostility, feels good to be back. Only reason I moved was because the traffic here has been dismal ever since whatever happened. Fact is both sides are echo chambers and the way you guys talk about each other is incredibly childish. You guys really think you're much better than the people over there? Just read some of the posts and blanket statements made here and it's obvious current GAF isn't some bastion of objectivity and tolerance.

Its not about the simple fact "X are better than Y" or whatever.

Having strong views about some topic is one thing. Enforcing those views on anyone that remotely thinks something different (even just by a little margin in most cases) by denying discussion so easily as they do is disgraceful and idiotic at best. I mean, its a discussion board ffs.

And then ofcourse the easiness as some big insults like nazi, sexist, racist, w/e are thrown over there with no fucking substancial reasoning why. Its just so astoundingly stupid that sincerely they are the ones being childish the most. I mean, those insults which used to have such big connotation and importance (with f*cking reason) seem now so meaningless in this internet days because they are thrown around like candies.

lol, why I would post in a place where you can't have an opinion?

If a mod disliked your post, you are either warned or banned.

They don't care about discussions at all.

Plus, in every thread you can see someone hating on something/someone.

Today they are simply a hate group circlejerk.

Exactly that. You can't even explain you point of view, even if you use trusted articles, they don't care because they don't like your instance.

I said the bickering between both sides was pathetic. Another scintillating generalisation as well you made about an entire forum too, I'm sensing a pattern here.

Era has 10k people on their site right now while GAF has 1k. A lot of damage has been done to GAF.
What another site has in activity is not relevant imo.

We have our site, things to get done and corrected. Contributing to making this site better and listening and learning from the communities feedback.

Yes damage has been done but we will fix it. I believe that.

Some said Gaf was over. And Gaf said nope... not yet.

It will took 1000 era member to take down one Neogafers that's how strong neo member is💪
Are you really one to throw a stone in a glass house? You were crying about people disagreeing with tumblr's removal of adult content just a page ago and couldn't even bring yourself to spell out websites you told people to go to instead (which I don't even think people use for pictures anyways).

Resetera reaction from Tumblr ban adult content

https://www.resetera.com/threads/tumblr-will-ban-all-adult-content-on-december-17th.84770/

Of course these crazy mofo wants pornographic content to stay at tumblr
Go to ****hub or x**ster for that

Tumblr is not the place for engage in sexual activity or posting nudes

just stay away from posting your opinions on the 'hot topics'. its all bullshit anyways, and even if you try to rationalize your point of view, mods from either site will find some way to justify banning you.

i mostly just use either site for vidya related gear - and that's really the only value for me.

Who here has been banned for having the wrong opinion? I'm left-wing and other than the Lion King avatar guy spazzing out in random topics I feel extremely welcome and respected here.

P.S. You can look at the bottom of the page and find out exactly what people are being banned for.

first off, you're left wing. so i'm assuming that makes you liberal? i'm just generalizing.

if your thought process is right wing or conservative and is completely against the norm/grain, i find that back in the purple site the mods will ban you for 'lack of inclusiveness, open mindedness, -phobia something'. even if you post some long ass diatribe about your logic, they will ban for 'thread derailment, -phobia something, etc'. ridiculous. frankly, i think its because its a way for those who have no power in real life to bring down the hammer on those who do not have the same mindset, via a website.

/v/ is better for all the non-filter, and reddit is OK as long as you skip all the worthless comments and just get to the points.

not sure how it is now here in the gold site, but i'm sure that all those shitty mods that moved over to the purple site after the debacle brought their thought process and asses with them.

GAF certainly has its share of members who will happily shout about NPCs and soyboys, but it also has a more reasonable contingent spanning the rest of the spectrum.
The core difference vs Era being that moderation won't ban you for what you say, but rather how you say it.

I hate to break it to you but I'm drinking chocolate soya right now.

And who the hell drinks milk? It's for babies.

Grow up and get some cheese in ya. I eat a fuck-tonne of cheese.
Milk isn't even for babies in general, it's for baby cows! The milk industry really ruined generations of people... Having said that, cheese rocks!

Not remotely true. 95% of the drama in threads is from like 50 super active members that post constantly and pretty much only about that type of shit. Some others come into hot issue threads and agree with them, but don't stir shit up like those losers do. The problem isn't the posters, it's that the mods are on that small, vocal minorities' side and do warnings and bannings based on what offends them. Which causes huge issues as they have extreme views and very thin skins.

But the vast majority of the people who post and browse that site are there just for the game news, game OTs, game spoiler threads, gaming communities and so on. The same stuff most of us came to GAF for before. The gaming forum there is almost all pure gaming threads. There's usually one or two (and often no) social/political issue threads on the first page of gaming. I see two currently--the David Jaffe thread (also one on the front page of gaming here) and one about a Eurogamer article on the GoG tweets etc. No thread on that here yet, but there is a second social issue thread with the game censorship discussion one.

It's perfectly fine if people don't want to post there And you probably shouldn't as people that toss around terms like soyboy are going to get triggered a lot on a site full of mostly very liberal people even if you put those minority of extremist idiots over there on ignore. But people here mis-characterize the hell out of that site. No it's not a few active members, it's a few thousand. No they aren't all posting in the social/political issue threads--most are annoyed by them and just there for the super active gaming discussions. No they don't all agree with the extremists. A vast majority there said they were still going to buy Cyberpunk 2077 in a poll that went up and got several hundred votes during the controversy (before a mod closed it, of course--again the moderation is the only real problem there), despite all the outrage from those knuckleheads trying to organize a boycott.

Again, perfectly fine to avoid that site as it's understandable to not want to associate with those crazies and especially with the mods on their side. Even more so if you are one that wants to discuss social/political issues as it's awful for that. It's just largely moot for someone like me with very little interest in those topics (I care in real life, don't care to discuss serious issues with gamers online). That stuff rarely festers in to game OTs and other things I post in, and mods are good about getting rid of it when it does and confining it to the dedicated threads.

It's just silly to generalize whole sites as bad when it's just like GAF before the split where the vast majority of posters and guests are just there for the game content and are just ignoring the crazy vocal minority and shitty mods. Generalizing them is no different than the idiots there that think this is an alt right site when it very clearly leans left. They just focus on the few posts by some further right members who post some pretty out there stuff from time to time that's allowed to fly as it's not attacking anyone even though it clearly outs them of having some racist/sexist/homophobic views. Those idiots are just this sites opposite side equivalent on the crazies over there. Put them on ignore and you're good to go.

My only issue with this site is gaming is still too slow to be useful for my needs, beyond just discussing random shit when board at work. Game OTs need to be super active for me as if I'm posting it's usually with a question that I want an immediate response to so I can make progress in the game. That's rare with the pace of a forum like this one, except for maybe the opening week or two of a huge AAA game like RDR. Even then it's going to be slow when a super active site with thousands of members online at any given time is going to give you a near instant response in most every game OT. Even for the very niche stuff it's rarely more than an hour or two. That's where traffic matters for me.

That’s because you guys keep coming over and posting this same post. Which is what a cultish echo chamber does. Which is why era seems so active. It’s a few hundred people repeating the same thing over and over and over and over....
As above, it's not the same few people. I also don't think it's the Resetera users coming here and causing that. It is with THIS thread as it was made specifically to get them to post while Era was down--so GAF was asking for it this time by leaving this thread up. But they are rarely posting in the dedicated thread in the Offtopic Community era. That's a few active members here who seem to spend a lot of time scouring Era (or Kiwifarms) for crazy shit to post and discuss. There's maybe one or two Era members who sometimes post to argue with them, but that's it. I don't have a problem with that thread personally. It's hidden away in a dead communities area (dead other than that thread anyway) and keeps that silliness out of sight. It was also a useful thread for finding some of this site's idiots who need ignored.

In any case, this forum feud is silly and pathetic and should really end. People here should focus on posting more meaningful threads and helping get activity back up. Most say they're glad all those people left. If so, stop going over there and looking at the nonsense and coming back here to post about it. Just ignore the site if it's not for you and spend your energy making this community better by posting about game news, starting OTs, posting in OTs and posting whatever in OT (movie news, sports threads, funny threads, whatever). As above, this sites main issue is it's just too damn slow (out side of politics which I have no interest in) for people like me that spend a lot of time online and want quick replies to things pretty often. It also lacks content with many big releases, and pretty much no niche releases, even getting OTs. And when ones get made (like my Dead Cells one) they drop like a stone if it's not a huge game like RDR2.

There just doesn't seem to be a lot of interest in talking games on here. Politics is by far the most active area and in gaming the most active threads outside the rare AAA OT like RDR2 are either threads of console war bickering or the same type of social/political issue threads you'd see on Era (Jaffe thread, censorship thread etc.) with just more balanced views. There's nothing like the regular, robust OT communities that made GAF so great before and are what keep most people on Era now. That will have to change if the site is to move beyond what it is now.

I have to disagree, dmaul. We have had over a half decade of evidence from this community (including when they were originally here) to back up the distaste many have for them. The mods are a major issue, yes - but they are in no small part a "minority". There are far more than 50 problematic users, that are not moderators, who have openly shown racist claims, suggestions of euthanasia, and insulted and denigrated large swaths of the American public as well as gamers for superficial reasons. It has been cataloged not only here in the Community thread, but on other sites such as Kiwifarms.

As above, it's not the same few people. I also don't think it's the Resetera users coming here and causing that. Who is spending a "lot of time" scouring Era or Kiwifarms? All you need to do is look at the ban bot and you will immediately have another 10 things to talk about in regards to the terrible practices of that community. You are making it seem like it is far more arduous of a task than it really is.

In any case, this forum feud is silly and pathetic and should really end. People here should focus on posting more meaningful threads and helping get activity back up. That simply won't happen. We all love gaming, that is why we came to NeoGaf in the first place. However, we have multiple groups actively trying to destroy what we love through the use of socio-political agendas being shoved where they don't need to, lies created by the gaming "journalists" like Klepek, Walker, Schreier, and others, as well as forced censorship ruining the creative freedoms that many game studios used to have all in the name of faux-inclusivity/progressivism. As much as we hate it, Politics have been forced into the gaming sphere by these far-left zealots (just like it was attempted to by the evangelical types in the late 90s and early 2000s) and it is in no small part because of the very types that used to reside on this site.

I do think that we should have less Era talk outside of the designated thread, but as the old saying goes: "Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

We'll just have to agree to disagree on that as I have few issues with gaming journalism or 95% of people posting on Era. Anyway, I'm going to step away from here for a while again. There's just not enough actual discussion of games here for me to come back. I'm just getting sucked into debates like this, stupid poll threads in gaming etc. as I'm bored and frustrated at work lately.

I have a lot of issues with Resetera as noted, but at least they have active OTs for pretty much every game under the sun while there's only one OT (Smash) even on the front page of gaming here. And that's all I really enjoy on forums anymore. Everything else is just me being bored and getting into thread that just end up pissing me off.

I'm curious to see how whatever changes to the community feature they have in the works here are, and will keep an eye on those. And just check in general to see if gaming ever goes back to gamers actually talking about games they are playing and not silly poll stuff, console war stuff and social/political crap. Barring major changes in activity and the type of activity, my posting here will be very limited in the future.

And just check in general to see if gaming ever goes back to gamers actually talking about games they are playing and not silly poll stuff, console war stuff and social/political crap. Barring major changes in activity and the type of activity, my posting here will be very limited in the future.
How is there no discussion on games? The gaming forum has way more posts than offtopic. There’s new threads every min.
Why do you keep bringing that false information up?

Re-read my post.

There's little discussion of specific games. i.e. people talking about the game they are currently playing in OTs or community threads.

Most threads in gaming currently are fanboys arguing over what Sony/Nintendo game is best, the future of VR, random opinions like not being a fan of Naughty Dog gameplay, a few news threads etc.

There's nothing wrong with those kind of posts (I participated in some of them). They just aren't what I really want from a forum. I want active OTs where I can chat with other gamers who are playing the same game(s) I am at any give time. That's missing here. The only OT on the front page is a Smash one, lately the usual only one has been RDR2. Vs. Era that has multiple OTs going on the front page and a super active Gaming Community era full of still active OTs. That's what kept me on GAF before and keeps me on ERA now.

Even though I participated, I generally don't like those poll threads and general opinion threads as I just don't care what console or games others think are best, what random people think is the future of the industry etc. I'm just being egoistic and going in there to share my opinion which is shitty given how little I care for other's opinions. I just want to shoot the shit with others playing the same game and have a place to ask questions about said game(s) and get quick responses.

Hope that clarifies it for you. And now I'm hitting log out so don't expect further replies. :D Cheers!
